- Clearly learning nothing from the criticism heaped against the recently-released Arosa Aggregates (from Rivet Games), Skyhook Games are trying another gameplay pack for TSW4, because the last one they made - only nine of the Norfolk Southern heritage units - was such a wonderful concept that roaring success (sarcasm). I hate 'gameplay packs' because they are overpriced, the devs just recycle existing motive power (with the only change being a new livery) and - overall - they add barely anything to the game; certainly not enough to justify being payware in the first place.
This time, instead of at least including reskins for a locomotive or multiple unit, Skyhook are only including reskins for the TEA tanker wagon - which we already have - and recycling / reselling the overused EWS Class 66 (again). And this is only Part 1 of 'Cargo Line'; heaven knows why they're doing multiple parts of this rubbish. - เกม
I agree with all your points, EXCEPT you pinning it on developers, when in actuality it's the marketing team and the ceos that are the issue
I'm sure the context was more along the lines of the "collective development house" which means the company that develops such crapware. Individual developers are just the lowbies putting in their time making stuff the morons upstairs want to fleece on the public. I'm sure they laugh at what they're asked to make sometimes.
Completely 100% agree with everything you said mate. A reskin pay ware reskin if sone tank wagons is absolutely shameful there literally hasn’t been a modern British freight loco since GWR more than 6 years ago
Personally I think a Class 60 should have been released with the wagons as a package.
I’d say this video perfectly sums up my feelings towards this pack, although admittedly I like seeing the freight variety more then I like driving it (more of an intermodal freight person myself)
And on the topic of the Class 66, whilst it is my favourite modern uk freight loco I am sick to death of only seeing that for modern routes in TSW. It wouldn’t be so bad if they included other freight operators such as GBRf or Freightliner but only getting DB and EWS is ridiculous. At this point we are in dire need of a 70 or 68 just so we can have something more modern
Hearing your video about this makes me wonder why model trains are somewhat better than paying for video games DLC which require payment.
The TEA wagon's as far as I am aware are new models based on the VTG TEA wagon , they are not reskins.
I agree that we could do with some more UK "modern" freight locos with in TSW but as the guy below commented the 66 is the most used freight loco in the UK is used by all the major freight companies. But it shouldnt stop Dovetail or it's 3rd party developers from looking at adding more. Hopefully with the influx of 3rd party groups then this will become more apparent. Although making a brand new model of a locomotive will take upto several months from visualisation to end product to do, its not something than can be put together overnight. The other thing as well is liscensing.
As for the "gameplay packs" I like them. I suspect you will see more of them now that more 3rd party people are coming on board.They are not going to be everyones cup of tea. They bring more gamplay and with the addition of extra rolling stock and the fourth coming Formation designer then yes you can be very creative. Personally I want to see a pair of 37's on TEA's screaming up the Lickey bank. in BCC. It will happen :)
Yes as to Rivet's gameplay pack for Edinburgh Glasgow Based on the 66/5 for freightliner and the 66/4 for DRS there are a few differences. Mainly the swing head knuckle couplers. Only the 250 EWS locos have these. The Freightliner and DRS ones do not. Akso GBRF now have a few of the ex EWS 66's so they still have the Swinghead couplers.
As a person who have been up and down on the UK’s railway network. I can sadly say that. Yes, Class 66s Class 59s (both are very similar locomotives) are EVERYWHERE making the other locomotives you suggested in the video becoming almost a rare sight (to me at least). So while DTG and other 3rd parties including the class 66 with other routes. I’d understand. (Tho I don’t even know how to drive the damn thing because it’s so hard to operate). However, what I wouldn’t accept and agreeing that, they should’ve modeled other locomotive in other add-ons. Better yet, including them in the routes. Class 73 should’ve been picked as a locomotive that hauls the leaf cleaning train instead of the 66. As that train is a Bi-Mode (diesel and 3rd rail) and could’ve been used way more.
They also should’ve done another freight pack focused on giving us locos instead. I can also suggest that they could’ve made a barrier carriage, basically a translator car for locomotives and EMU to do empty stock moves with other EMU not only with the electrostars. Tho what I said is sadly not the reality we are in.
The Price of this "gAmEpLaY pAcK" has been confirmed to be 10 Pounds...
That's absolutely shocking. It's not even worth three pounds, let alone TEN. I just don't understand why these packs are so expensive, given how small they are.
Sometimes I regret making an ‘oath’ to myself to buy all UK DLC for TSW with the exception being the London Underground
One note here- these TEA wagons are not the same as the ones already available. They were a newer batch first built in 2016 I think, to a more modern design. Doesn’t excuse the price but it is a different wagon than what’s already in game.
I wasn't aware that any TEAs were built in the 21st century. The way I see it with Skyhook's pack, it's just another variant of a tanker we've already got, and I'd rather see them make a new freight wagon that we haven't got in the game yet.
I think Skyhooks nicest addon is the Star Addon pack. Though the engine does use the dreadful castle sounds from many years ago. However i have worse news for you AP just released a Vegetation pack.
Yes, I've heard about AP's latest release. It's just as ridiculous as the Cloud Enhancement Pack, and I really do wonder how they could have ever thought these packs were good ideas.
As for my favourite Skyhook pack in TS classic, it's the Corris Railway; hands down.
Personally I think that Skyhook missed out on a golden opportunity to make a Class 60 to go with these newer TEA tank wagons that date from 2006 onwards. What a shame because not only are we getting new tankers for the newer more modern routes, but the Class 60 would have made it viable for me to take interest in this pack. I will hold off on a sale as I am not paying £10 for this. However had a Class 60 been included, I would be happy to pay £15.
Adding a Class 60 would be even better if Skyhook added scenery for Toton Yard as well; I always thought it strange that they didn't bother doing so despite laying track up there on their MML route.
@@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga l agree with you on this. However if it was to be realistic based in 2017. They would have to add 75 Class 60 in the yard as well as other things to make it realistic. I would be happy to have a new freight locomotive instead of the 66 all the time.
In all fairness to Skyhook, they have done a full new model of the wagons to make it accurate to their present state. As well as that after the drama earlier this year with Jane, its nice to see they've put a lot more work into MML in an upcoming patch, based on the flickr images they have provided. However we can only really judge it once the pack comes out but my hopes are higher than before. 66s are pretty much everywhere.
Horseshoe got shafted. One single switching scenario yet there’s like three or four yards. Beyond frustrating apart from through runs that route falls severely short. As for cane creek the canyon section is enjoyable but the lack of scenarios makes it a route I might play once a month if I’m fully awake because it drags on and on
In defence of the MML, they (or at least someone) are releasing a QOL update that actually makes it look half decent.
In that case, I might make an updated review of the add-on once the update is released. I just hope it's properly tested first, unlike what DTG did with New York to Trenton.
it's sad how bad TSW is. I remember seeing squirrels video when the pg TSW was just coming out and thinking it looked beyond amazing the fact it's been like 5/6 years and the ga,me still looks and feels practically identical is just plain sad.
Ahile the 43 is nice the front end is melted, enough to not be noticable far away but enouh on closer look, wierdly enough chadddston curve is fully modelled
It's not just a Reskin, the TEA Wagon Skyhook are releasing is the Modern Version with Modern Bogies
I wasn't aware that it was a new model, but it doesn't change my overall view of this pack. It won't present good value for money (in my opinion), and I see it as just another variant of a tanker that we already have.

There are much more serious issues than addons in a train game. If you don't like it, don't buy it!
That doesn't mean this game (and its add-ons) are immune from criticism. As for the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" argument, I'm sick of hearing it because it simply does not work. While yes, I can chose whether or not I buy the pack, that does not make the problems go away.
@@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga You're allowed to critique a game / dlc, I agree, but if you're going to rant on and on and on about Dovetail... just don't buy their products? They aren't putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy their stuff. You're digging yourself a deeper hole.
I dare say I'll stop buying / reviewing TSW products eventually, but the reason why I still play this game (for the time being) is because I like driving trains while being able to get up out of the seat and explore the stations. I want this game to be as good as possible, and although I doubt the devs will ever take any notice of what I say (and you're right about them not putting a gun to my head), I still review these add-ons to help other people decide whether or not they should try it themselves.
But, for the sake of my own sanity, I don't review every add-on that's ever been released because there are some that I simply don't want to buy.

What a good review
The UK freight locomotives we have class 20, 31,40,45,47 and the 08 shunter although the 31, 40, 45, 47 are also passenger locomotives so there mixed use same as the 20 on WSR and Cathcart
Those are not modern-image locomotives.

The only real modern freight trains we could have are the 57,59, 67,68 ect
Big regrets getting Cane Creek but a little better with horseshoe curve, for one and the biggest gripe I have about cane creek is its AC44 model. For one skyhook could of added a Union Pacific icon engine (that being the EMD SD70M class which Union Pacific ordered 1000+) For two they can at least fix the problems the AC44 itself has now I'll just list them below.
3. The livery on the AC44 is glitched so certain parts on the engine when it comes to paint look off (not to mention its broken in livery designer)
2. It re-uses the horn of the CSX AC44 that being a K5LA unlike most UP AC44's which wear a K3LA.
4. this route is like 2 years old at this point and they still never bothered to fix THE REAR TRUCK WHICH IS BACKWARDS, I will kid you not the rear truck on the AC44 is backwards and they still never went back and fixed that and had the guts to show it off in a live stream video as its the latest and greatest thing.
Now onto horseshoe curve, now they did get some things right but a little more wrong but its *B O R D E R L I N E * barrable
1. The in cab light on the NS ES44AC doesn't turn on, now when you turn it on it'll give the look of it being on though the light that should be shining still looks like its off.
2. The horn, the ES44AC which is equipped with a K5HL can clearly be heard looping if you hold it long enough and sounds like trash when your blowing it at back to back crossings. not to mention the horn on the NS GP38-2 is wonky somewhat and doesn't even have the right horn model on top (clearly showing the model was a slight modification and reskin of the CSX GP38-2 Which uses a K5LA model while the NS GP38-2 has an RS3L air horn sound and K5LA model up top. the rest of the problems of sounds are in 3.
3. The sounds on the ES44AC, now in real life ES44AC's among other GE locomotives have a Chugging sound to them. Skyhook tried recreating to which it sounds terrible (it sounds more like a tractor than anything) than an actual GE locomotive. and for the longest time the ES44 didn't have the iconic GE "swoop" sound until they copy pasted most the sounds from the BNSF ES44C4.
4. the lighting, now running on the western US freight routes during the sunset hours is beautiful but not horseshoe curve, the evening lighting is horrendous and I've been seeing DTG give all the US routes new skyboxes but for horseshoe curve they completely forgot about.
and not to mention a popular landmark on the horseshoe curve (the Gallitzin tunnels) lacks a little area where a caboose sits which is used as a small museum and railfanning platform.
Overall I think DTG and their partners are kind of on their high horses primarily due to the fact that their the only good train simulation game for console and they know that console players can't fix the slop they put out and have to take what they can get.
God can we get a decent US route
Actually you're wrong that dtg gave all other us routes the new lighting and sky. Only Boston Providence and Sherman Hill have the new lighting but the rest of the legacy routes do not
I haven't bought any of these "gameplay packs" and will never do. Charging money for something the community could do or has done is just stupid. I really hope the TSW4 editor puts an end to this bullshit as players are able to just create what they want (assuming they have the time and skills to do so, but considering how much good freeware is availabe for TS classic I would think some do).

Yes, I've heard of the vegetation pack. As if the price wasn't absurd enough, I can-not believe that AP keep making these bizarre packs (weather and cloud EPs for examples). Who's asking for this stuff, especially when AP have shut-off the comments section on their Facebook posts?

When Dovetail was bought by focus entertainment earlier this year, I thought that we would at least see a slight improvement in the quality of add-ons and the end of these shady business practices. Guess not. At this point, I don’t think it’s a matter of if Dovetail will go bankrupt, it’s a matter of when. Yes I know it’s not dovetail making these gameplay packs, but they’re still the ones encouraging it and taking a pay cut. It’s just embarrassing when you consider that there’s another simulator out there which is much better value.
You know, I still want to enjoy this game, and I still have a small hope that it'll eventually get better. But this is (ever-greedy) Dovetail we're talking about. It seems like Focus' acquisition did nothing to improve DTG's business practices; only maintain the status quo.
To be honest I’m surprised you’re still holding out hope despite everything that’s happened, and considering how critical you’ve been. I lost all hope after TSW 3 last year, and things haven’t gotten any better since. TSW does have its bright spots sure, but what does it matter when stuff like this happens?
I've been playing TS classic (and later TSW) for a long time now, and it's all I'm really familiar with because I have little experience with any other railway games (apart from Railroads Online). I intend to keep riding the dodgy wave for as long as possible, as it were.
In fairness I have my own hobbies which I follow despite riding the dodgy wave, but this one is…something else. At this rate it’ll be a miracle if the ship don’t sink.
A class 90 would have been a welcome addition for freight, I realize it''s electric so wouldn't be compatible for every route like diesel but it's a personal favorite along with the 91 that was naturally left out of east coast since we are only allowed ONE! train with every route add on which is criminal especially with the base routes of a supposedly new game. I'm really loosing faith in train sim world.
A class 90 addition would also make good opportunities for Passenger routes like the Great Eastern
For your money you get x16 new timetable services and x8 new scenarios across two of the routes, plus the reskins... If it's £4.99 then I will be buying it.
Even at five pounds, I still think that's a lot of money to pay for such a small pack. But if you can still enjoy it, that's perfectly fine.
If each scenario averages one hour that's 16hrs gameplay, for a fiver, plus official liveries on new TEA wagons 👍
I agree 💯 they should have a different locomotive with this new pack like the class 60 I'm getting sick and tired of the 66 the 66 is a nice locomotive but they need something different in the game for freight

This is pretty sure not a developer idea. Sounds like whoever handles the money. Unless the sweaty fan boys stop eating these but companies will continue selling. What we need is a good alternative to Train Sim Some-parts-of-the-world
Well now there's the editor for that.
They need licenses and 3rd parties to create other countries and continents. Dtg can't do the entire world by themselves and not every operator will say yes to being in tsw
TSW4 was insulting enough as it was by not being a free update. It was just to force people into buying routes they didn't want.
What is really stupid to me is that they came out with an entire new game (Tsw4) I mean seriously why did they even come out with it when they could have simply updated tsw3 but no if I want new content I would have to buy tsw4 which I won’t do because it is ridiculous to give them any more money. Edit: what also bugs me as a US rail fan, we seem to get the same copy paste locomotives. First it started with the Ac4400cw and sd40 now it’s the sd70ace (while I don’t mind as it is my favorite locomotive it also gets old) and sd40 and the es44ac. They always do copy paste for us freight routes. In horseshoe curve they could have at least made the gp38 a high hood to make it unique or even have added the sd40e. For cjp they could have added the sd70mac in which bnsf still has plenty and uses them.
Recycling content isn't new though. Also it's not just the us. Look at all the dostos for germany and the 66s for the uk
I figured it was the same for the foreign routes. I have never played them aside from the spirit of steam but like I said I figured it was no different.
Really, I can't even be bothered to get this, let alone Rivet's Engineering Pack....I just don't feel like it

The Skyhook TEAs are a brand new model, totally unrelated to the HFP TEAs or the Oovee TSC model. You've ruined your own argument by ignoring this fact frankly.
Even if it is a new model, it doesn't change the fact that we already have the TEAs in-game. And you hardly get any stuff with the pack.

For one thing, I expect more than just wagons added in a gameplay pack. All the previous ones have at least included a new livery (or multiple liveries) for an existing locomotive, whereas Skyhook are just recycling the overused EWS Class 66 (without changing it in any way).
What's even stupider about the 66 being recycled is that it already comes with Great Western Express, one of the routes that'll get TEA scenarios and services, and the GWE version can layer on to Midland Mainline, so there was no point in Skyhook bundling it with their gameplay pack.
@@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga it's called a gameplay pack, a new wagon is already more than gameplay. Other gameplay packs so far have mostly just included reskins as you say, not entirely new rail vehicles. The inclusion of another 66 is disappointing but at least it'll be the improved version from SEHX rather than the GWE original. Including it with the pack removes any external requirements.
Reskin packs are 0 effort easy work which will definitely get them some EZ money, because there always will be morons who buy them.
They should add the 222 and 156s and not this crap rubbish
I'm hoping some talented painters take preview screenshots of these pathetic packs and reproduce them to a T and put them on the Creator's Club the same day these things are released.
Only if it's related to art. Livery designer doesn't allow them to create brand new freight wagons or model variations. Unless they use the unreal editor to create new models but ld alone can't do that

As pathetic and lazy as this pack is, I can't get my mind around the sheer volume of depraved weirdos there are on the DTG forums fawning over this one and gobbling up the nosense. Seeing such reactions ensures that laziness with this franchise will continue. Expect more crap like this in the future again and again. These weirdos have proven to the devs that you can make profit off 5 minutes of work, so why bother spending months on something of quality?

"We're looking into it" or "It's something we want to look into") 🤣

No chance, especially since I don't care for Fortnite (never have, and never will). I'll have you know that I don't hate TSW as a game, what I do hate are the business practices of its developers.
