  • Thanks to Chris Bailey for pointing out I stuffed up the wheel arrangement. Obviously not thinking it through. FSCT is a 4-6-2 not a 2-6-1 as I said in the video.
    This video will show you how to drive The Flying Scotsman with Safety Systems on.

    Excellent video! I’m finally getting the hang of Scotsman but I note you say both ejectors should be closed when running? I was of the understanding that the small one had to be open? If I close the small one when running the train starts to slow. Thanks

    • @trainsimulatordriver
      @trainsimulatordriver  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ktfcmatt it depends what Rolling stock you're pulling. If you are pulling air brake stock, you need to keep both ejectors closed the entire time. If you are pulling vacuum stock, you need to keep one of the ejectors open to keep the brakes off. What can happen with air brake stock is you might have some vacuum in the system and it confuses the game. There are two release valves on the locomotive. One of them below the reverser and the other one is on the right hand side of the tender behind the driver. Those will destroy the vacuum. If you're showing any vacuum on the vacuum gauge and you're running air brake stock, use both of those levers to get the vacuum back to zero

    Thank you for posting these guide videos, they’re very helpful !
    You mention the wheel arrangement for Flying Scotsman as 2-6-1; your description of the number of wheels is right but, as she is a British locomotive the correct designation is 4-6-2 , hope this is useful for you. 👍🏻😊🚂

      @@Rc.guy2010ah its Scotty! Scotsman has a difficult set up because it has both vacuum and air brakes. The locomotive always runs on air brakes but the train can be vacuum or air. Train formations that come with Scotty are all air braked. By default both Ejectors (creators of vacuum) should be off but if you put them on or they're on in the game for some reason - I had it happen today on stream and don't know if I put them on or if they were already on) then you need to close them and bleed the vacuum both from the engine (black lever behind reverser) and the reservoir on the tender (silver lever on drivers side at the back). Once the vacuum is bled off you should be ok. It is worth noting that the air brakes take a minute or so to pump up the entire train from zero or after a heavy application so you'll find your brakes are on for a while.

I'm a steam engineman IRL and I'm pretty happy with the sounds. There is a difference between idiot and not knowing something :). Where is your reverser set? Once you get moving you should be able to have it around the 30% mark. The percentage is the amount of time that the steam inlet valve is open to the cylinder at each end of the stroke. When its wide open at 70% that is using a huge amount of steam using the raw boiler pressure to move the piston. Bringing it back to 30% means the inlet is open for less time and uses less steam relying on the steam expanding to provide the needed power. Up hills or for more acceleration stay in the higher 30's or even into the low 40's.
