My Dad used a 67 beetle to deliver food from our restaurant. He bought it new, had our restaurant logo hand painted on the sides, he said he could park anywhere. Sometimes I got to go with him, and because of those memories, I love Beetles. Other than that, I'm not really a car person, but I still enjoy watching all you videos. Thx

Watching the VW move past that annoying blue wrapper thing was insanely satisfying. Love that bug's color. What year is it? My dad had a '68, which became my first car years later. Dark blue. God I loved that car. Seeing the interior takes me right back to when my cousin and I scrubbed mine down after dad gave it to me - a solid decade's worth of Lucky Strike tobacco coating that took days of scrubbing to sorta remove. Later replaced with a high schooler's smoke of a different sort...

@@missyd5016 We have nurseries too (and not just the child daycare kind), but the garden centres are the retail oriented places where prices tend to be a little high. They often have a café/restaurant attached, and are the sort of place you can spend an hour or two browsing/shopping. A nursery is usually a bit more basic a place where the plants are actually grown, and the prices are usually a little more reasonable.

The reason you dont see a dash is because '68 is the first year of the padded dash. My granddad bought it and eventually gave it to my mum who ended up giving it to me. It was cute, but the heating only worked in the summer and it would only safely go up to 70kmh. With this I frequently crossed Germany, until I sold it to a friend, cos I needed a bigger boot, but good times were had with it, Blues Brothers tape running usually. A trip down memory lane!

Alex, My first cars were bought new. A 63, 67 and 71 beatle.
    white, red and blue. respectively.
I put 12k mile on the 67 on a two month road trip around the US. The next summer I put about 9500 miles on another road trip.
The 67 never broke down in spite of travels up and down mountains and dirt back roads.
The one time the car stopped running was the day I left the main Highway in Colorado and attempted to take the mountain road to Telluride. I got a couple of hundred feet up the narrow path with high cliffs on the right and a big plunge down the valley on the drivers side. The car vapor locked and the engine died.
Sitting in the drivers seat with one hand on the wheel and the other on the emergency brake and moving VERY slowly and praying, I was finally able to back down to the main road.
I got out of the car and kissed the ground!
Oh, I forgot to mention, there was a sign by the road which said"Road to Telluride, four wheel drive. vehicles only."
Many years later I met a fellow from that area and told him my story.
"It's a good thing you stalled", he said " because when those signs say four wheel drive vehicles only, they mean it!,
You would have had to climb boulders and ford streams."..so in spite of my ignorance, someone was looking out for me.
That's my VW story, I hope you like it.
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector

The complete Beetle is a 68 or 69. The separate decklid is the original one for the car. The vented one is from either a 68/69 convertible or up to a 71. It was common for the VW guys to put convertible decklids on for additional cooling other than the vents below the rear window. VW took notice and made them standard on all Beetles in 1970. In 1972 they went to 4 sets of vents. The parts car is a 65 or 66, and is actually very different from the other car. Yes parts can be swapped, but when completed correctly, they have different looks. As for that one not having a dash, it shouldn't have a padded dash. They didn't become standard until 1968. I also wouldn't say that the blue car has a racing motor. It has a dual port motor which is a 1600cc and I can see it has a larger intake and the larger carb and external oil filter, but it's certainly not a racing motor. If it were a racing motor it would have dual carbs and a lot more performance goodies and wouldn't have the tubes on the sides of the motors. It's got a little more pep. For being a Canadian car, it is pretty solid looking. I've seen much much worse here in Western PA. You're pretty much right on at $2000-2500 for the car and if the parts car is decent, you might be able to get $2000 out of that car (which is more desireable) as it looks pretty solid on its own as well.

The pair of beetles is a good buy, however your "parts car" is the more valuable one of the two as it is a pre 67' model. and has the wide 5 chassis. In my opinion, dont part them out, do a quick flip and sell them to someone who loves them for what theya re and will restore them or build them up at least.

Alex, I LOVE your vids! You are the best narrator and you have the greatest sense of humor! Please keep making them!
Just so you know, having VW bugs is habit forming! I got a 57, and a 58 moon roof, then
a red 65! Think I paid $750. total for them.
Had them all at once and they all ran, too! Fun to drive!

Gidday, most likely mice have built nests in the tinware of the motor. Remove motor and break down the tinware before attempting to start. Very interesting vid.

Lol thx I knew I spelled that wrong. Lol I loved that car. I hit a deer 🦌 in it once. They wanted to total it and dad told them no way I drove it over a 100 miles home after I hit it. Holding the steering wheel up. The U clam bolts for the Callum got ripped out on impact.

That brought back a lot of memories of my mother in law who had a white beetle . And reminded me you can be close to your mother in law. At first was rocky. then we went shopping in the beetle and then it all changed :)
