- Whew! After getting our zoning approved Alex and crew continue with prep work getting the store ready for our grand opening. Setting up the candy display, fixing a pinball machine and getting the piano bar in place.

Curiosity i have a tip for all your wooden draws get an old candle and rub it on the runners it keeps the draws opening smoothly and stops them from jamming. Also works on zips. Try it folks it works well.

I really admire you Alex (& your lovely wife too) for pursuing your dream instead of a life based purely of $$$$$ in a time intensive career. You have shown your children that having goals & respect for yourself & your fellow man can lead to the true path of a life filled with happiness & joy. I wish that one day I could come & see your wonderful store & meet all the interesting people who have made it such an interesting part of your community - sadly I live on the other side of the world from you but that should also show your wonderful family the impact your lives have had on sooo many people - near & far. I wish you the best of life & luck in your new store & your grand opening .... although something tells me you have all the truly necessary qualities for a wonderful life already, mainly LOVE!!!!!!

Your positivity and persistence has paid off by not listening to the negative people. You have managed to cross many big hurdles that most people would have let it stop them when they were told NO, but you just kept pressing forward. Like you have said many times we are only given one life why spend it in a job we hate. Don't be afraid to live your dreams and stay positive. I think having a guest book with a comment section in your store would be something really nice to have that others could read how far away people have come to see your store. There was a place in South Dakota that had a map and a little box of pins that you could stick into the map showing where you were from something like that would be fun too. Congratulations Alexander sending love from Texas to you and your family and Chewy too.

You picked the perfect little girl to help with the candy display. She’s such a cute little sweetheart. It’s so nice to get your family involved. You’ve raise 3 nice and well behaved kiddos.
Your store looks like so much fun to visit. It's one of those places where if you visit as a kid, you remember it for the rest of your life.
Dave did a great job on all the signs. I’m sorry he had to redo that last one but he seemed to be a very good sport about it and wow got the job done fast. Thanks Dave you rock!🏄♂️
The brilliant way he fixed that spelling error (I would have done the same mistake btw XD) just emphasizes how great Dave is at his job. :)
My hubby painted signs back in the 80's and he did a sign that said "Goverment Checks Cashed Here" and even hung the sign on the stores building. Week later the owner contacted him and said a 10 yr old kid came in and said, "hey Goverment is spelled wrong, it has 2 N's" lol
It's confusing because 'curious' has the 'u' but not curiosity, it throws you. You sorta think it should be the same. lol

The thing is when he was making the joke I tried spelling it in my head and I added the U too 😅😅😅 now I know I guess!

A. It is an odd word, however, it is based on the word ‘curios’ not ‘curious’ - hence the spelling. Dave did a wonderful job though, it looks beautiful.

LOL I love it and the title for it. I think it would be fun to really show how much their parents are able to accomplish so much and still have time to raise three amazing children. I know stay at home moms with only one child and they aren't even close to being well behaved. It's so sad to see how they are raising their children I don't think they are going to be able to handle them as they get older. They don't believe in any kind of punishment no matter what they have done wrong. I know so many young people that have no respect for their elders because of the way they were raised.

Still bothers me my friend's granddaughter took a hammer to her mother's piano who passed away smashed it into pieces. She said she didn't play it anymore and it was taking up too much room in her apartment. I was kind of hysterical that she did it told her she could have donated it to some place. She saved the inside wires it looks kinda like a harp but still so sad to see it. Now what to do with it so big and heavy.
@@suzannejensen275 My Mom repurposed a piano into beautiful shelves. She asked me if she had been wrong to do so. Although I was very surprised that anyone would take apart a piano, the shelves are more useful to her life and living space. So, Kudos Mom!

Store looks fabulous, can't wait to see it in person one day. Loved seeing Abagail helping in the store. Well done, Josh on cutting the piano keys. Alec, for sake your lungs and especially your family, please buy some face masks to have on hand. Mold is serious business, especially black mold. Be sure to change furnace filter more often than normal too.
Maybe you should have an admission charge just to come look through the store. It is much more interesting than most museums I have been to. 😉

Your helper did a great job on the sweets baskets. looks like an amazing store. You are definitely on the tourist map for Edmonton. So what is your next project? An old style Bed and Breakfast Hotel for all us to come and stay in from all over the world. Please?

I love how you can look at old cars and things like your pinball machine and figure out what is wrong and how to fix it! Even the new (old) store. Many people would have looked at the structural issues and been too intimidated to buy it. You looked through the problems and saw your dream general store! You fixed it up, doing much of the work yourself, and you have surrounded yourself with talented craftsmen who are also handy optimists, and before long, your store is fantastic!
And of course, look at what you did to the Potter’s House! You saved it from the wrecking ball and made it back into a beautiful home! And you saved Mary Borgstrom’s legacy, and told the world her story!
I’m amazed on how quickly you organized the store... maybe you have a crew of elves you don’t video.. haha. Every corner of the place looks beautiful.. somewhere I definitely could spend an afternoon browsing....Great job!! So happy for you & your family

To help old drawers run smoothly just rub a white candle on the runners be generous with the rubbing it works smooth drawer openings.

Dave did a great job on the sign. The misspelling was a blessing in disguise, in repainting it he extended the flair of the “C” running it through the loop of the “r”. That change actually makes the difference between a pretty good looking sign and a great looking sign. In my humble opinion that is. It was just the little tweak that it needed.

They use to sell some kind of barrels in the garden stores, to put plants in. It was a big thing in the early 2000 something.

Us sailors who own sail boats, we leave 1 lightbulb burning 24/7 inside the boat to keep the inside of the boat dry. Also at the $1 store you can purchase cartons of dehumidifiers to take out excess moisture in the air. These work well too.

The English language has strange rules to change the spelling of word, words not spelled the way they sound and having a lot of words pronounced the same but spelled diferent and have different meanings. As a second language it can be very frustrating.

It was neat to hear you talk about old " Johnny Lightning " cars. When they first came out
they were manufactured at the " GRIES " Reproducer/ Dynacasting Corporation in New Rochelle, NY where I grew up as a boy
in the 1960's. I would walk past the Gries factory on Second Street whenever I walked to my best friend Anthony's house.
We would jump into the big Dumpster outside the plant at night and find all kinds of cool stuff. Unpainted Johnny Lightning cars that I assume
were rejects. Gries also made those Teeny Tiny Tool Sets you would get in the old Gumball machines in a big clear plastic ball.
I had many of those tiny hammers. pliers.scissors. screwdrivers, and folding clasp knives.
Wish I had a time machine to go through that dumpster!

Absolutely love the store. So many antique stores are junkie but not yours. From your toy section to the kitchen, it flows and is so neat. I love the piano bar, the hands on guitar holder, well just everything. Not enough room to type everything I like, lol. You've done an amazing job. Love y'all bunches and bunches!

1889 vintage.. my dad's answer to musty basement..easy, make a "paint" out of white lime and water and paint the cement etc down basement... works beautifully. lots of ppl did this where ever needed

Your new store is absolutely the most elegant store I have ever seen! You have a tremendous gift and you did it all without a plan-o-gram. LOL! Yea Alex! Blessings!
Your children will remember all that you did you definitely have done a great job on that store. My dad own his own business as a engine repair shop and I remember how proud he was putting up a big sign by the road and ads on the radio. He worked hard putting up display shelves and I remember him sitting behind his cash register the first time. That is so inspiring as a kid to see Dad work so hard on a vision and make it a reality. Good job on that store.

So absolutely amazing! Beyond congrats! This is breath-taking!I love the red on the store name panel, it creatively solves the brown-blue colour problem and visually ties the sides and front together in a really pleasing manner. The piano bar is outstanding, you owe Josh.
For the grand opening, I'll bet your new neighbours would appreciate a potluck party in the Western tradition with live music. Even if the potluck is just cookies and finger foods.
Candle wax on your drawers will help them move easier. Also dehumidifier in the basement should help, Love your videos. Piano bar looks great, store looks fantastic.

goodness, I used 'wet and forget' and just bought a 'maxblaster' for my 'cottage on the creek'... last week was the first time the 'damprid' wasn't full of water...looks like it's finally dry, so I ran the 'maxblaster'. 'heroic measures' LOL warranted in your basement since whatever odors (and more) will be blowing through the whole place. If you get a 'maxblaster' don't run it when occupied, and air out the place for some time. I'd been borrowing a friends 'maxblaster' but have now bought my own... 'wet and forget' is amazing, big bang for the buck
So happy for you guys. Be sure and sleep all day just once since you have to wait for license. Check into a dehumidifier for basement. Also get mothballs in small containers or paper cups and put on ledges between rafters or wherever you can in basement. Will discourage SPIDERS!!!! since they hate them. Blessings on your family and your endeavors. Don't forget to give God the glory and thank Him for He has been with you all the way.
I'm sure it's already been said, but now that you've put in the work in the basement, see about getting a new furnace filter to help clear out the rest of the odors, and do it again in about a month. That may sound silly, but it'll help tremendously!
