The first three songs sound like a terrific trinity of triumph thrashing thru' time!! Wow, I think your words on the title track then, has me imagining what amazing times are ahead in my head, from listening to this album. I love "Defenders of the Faith". I think its got a dark, noctournal vibe to it that sounds really ideal to listen to at night. Its got a brooding heart underneath the initial Freewheel Burns and Jawbreaking attack. On the new one then, Id like some of that captured like DOTF' "Night comes Down". That moody 80s dark ballad that perfectly follows along from a all gun blazin' assault the song before. Either way, Im looking forward to it.👍
Hey there MP! Great to hear from you. Love your channel. Your Priest content for this record has been knockin' it out of the park! And how cool to hear that you're also into the new record. Can you reveal any of your own fave tracks? 😊😆👊🤘

Do not treat us like that MP! Life is not fair (joke). I ve already preordered 2 copies for me and my uncle. Can't wait!
@@PossessedByMetal666 Thanks man! I actually agree with you on the best track. Invincible Shield is one of the best songs Judas Priest have ever written! And it says a lot ;)
Honestly there is no other metal band in the whole universe that would deserve this success more than Judas Priest. Often overlooked by many fans of more popular bands kinda Metallica or Iron Maiden, but this band is kinda Prometheus to me. God created fire, but they brought that back to mankind. I have to say I am immensely impressed by the power of the new album. Back in 2018 I was only satisfied with new single Lightning Strike, because somehow we ve heard it somewhere before and somewhere. Here we go in 2023-4 and I am amazed by new 3 songs (Panic Attack - 7 fast monster, LYRICALLY excellent and temporary, made in the vein of Rush (haha), Trial by Fire-6,5 heavy doomy opus with unbelievably dark intro, Crown of Horns - 8,5 - catchy, deep even radio friendly) and there is SO MUCH to come! Right at the moment I dare to say this album is even better than Firepower, but there are still like 8 unknown songs and Firepower was absolutely consistent. We'll see!
Hey there David - thanks so much for the detailed assessment of the singles! So glad you're excited about the new album. And yes, I remember thinking that about Lightning Strike - like, whoa, this is so much better than Redeemer Of Souls. 😊🤘
I absolutely am stoked to hear this new album. Great review, Jason, you’ve really stoked the flames of excitement for me. I loved Firepower, I thought it was so strong and in all honesty, Rising from Ruins landed itself in my top 5 priest tracks of all time so I’m really intrigued to hear the title track especially.
Hey there! Really glad you're pumped! And yes, you know, it hadn't occurred to me that the cover art is psychedelic, but I guess it is. Suits the song Escape From Reality, ha! And I like it too. Thanks for watching! I'd really appreciate it if you fancied sharing this video in your fave FB metal group if you have one! 😊👊
I was absolutely blown away by Panic Attack, Trial by Fire and Crown of Horns were great. I can't wait to hear the album, you set my expectations very high on Invicible Shield and The Serpent and the King. It makes me very emotional thinking about if this will actually be the last Priest album they release. If it is, they well and truly ended at the top of their form. If not, I'll be more than happy to hear one more. Big love for Richie and Andy, they are often criticized for not being "the original members" but man have they helped Priest to rise to whole new levels with these new albums.
Ever since I started listening to Priest in 1980 I've noticed they have a lot of songs where you are like it's ok on first listen to become one of favorites as you start to understand what they are doing.
I was 17 in 1984 and there was no bigger metal band at the time. They were energized. I couldn't wait to see them. It was my 1st time. I memerized all the lyrics to every song. I was ready and they didn't disappoint. They opened up with."love Bites". I can still here the base line to the intro of that song when all the lights were out. The stage was intense. I still get goose bumps thinking about that show. I've seen them many times but the 1st will always be my favorite. They are the true metal gods.
I was in the same age then you and I saw them too for the first time in Munich, Germany, with Ted Nugent opening up as special guest!! Absolutely unforgettable!!!
Man! I can tell your emotion almost crying by the end of the video! Oh God I cant wait to hear it!!! LOVE Firepower but I believe this IShield is gonna be EVEN BETTER! Thanks for your review, greetings from Spain 🎉Long Live Heavy Metal. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! Heavy metal rules. I just dropped a new Priest video today: th-cam.com/video/1Or5_8Q0GxM/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgyaHUvCHMBOCqtk0gR4AaABAg
I'm an old fossil like you Jason , just stoked that bands like Saxon , Maiden , Priest etc are still releasing quality music . The anticipation grows with each day to get my mits on Invincible Shield . According to your review sounds like a KKKKK .😉
Hehe, absolutely it is, Rod! Glad you're excited to get those mitts on it. I don't know if you're in any metal FB groups, but I'd really appreciate it if you wanted to share this video in that kinda place. Would sure help a 28-minute video find a few more eyeballs. 👀😆😊👊🤘
Woohoo! Great to meet a fellow Hard As Iron digger! Actually, wow - wouldn't that be interesting, to hear the current line up re-record some older material with an Andy Sneap production? 😲😊🤘
Great ranking and review. I'd like to see more of these. Here's my ranking: 1. The Serpent and the King 2. Invincible Shield 3. Panic Attack 4. Sons of Thunder 5. Escape From Reality 6. Gates of Hell 7. Trial By Fire 8. Devil in Disguise 9. As God is my Witness 10. Giants in the Sky 11. Crown of Horns
I never in my life would have thought that any material after Firepower could come even close. But during the weeks I’ve come to terms with that Panic Attack beat them all. And you put FOUR tracks above it! To say that I’m looking forward to this is an understatement! 🥹
Hey! I'm so glad you're buzzed for this record. Would love to hear back from you, once you hear it, to see (a) if you agree that those four tracks are even better and (b) what your own ranking would be. 😊🤘 I should probably make a Shield Vs Firepower video closer to release. 🤔
@@PossessedByMetal666That's a good idea. I think too, that a video Sixx months down the line on the album is a good idea. How the album held up down the line, what songs have crept up the ranking ladder, whats even better than when you first heard it. How the album progressed in time. One thing: Whats wrong with Turbo??😂 Its a really good 80s synth metal album!!🤘🤘 "Point of Entry" is the Priest album for me that I skip over. Despite a couple of good songs (Headin out to the Highway), I think its mostly B-side quality pub rock.😊
@@PossessedByMetal666 Yes please do! I really like your videos, and you really have my respect as a former Kerrang!-employee! I’m a diehard Priest-fan but could never have anticipated their exceptional return to form with Firepower. When I heard first single (Lightning Strike) it was like ”an I crazy or was this bloody damn good?” When the title track dropped. Damn, I almost shed a tear. Every time JP does something it is like watching your kids in a public performance - you really, really, wanna see it go well. But this was like the kids made the home run that won the game. To see you put the other two singles relatively low on the list assures me - this will be another JP home run!
@@BumphreyYoughurt How can PoE be overrated when it gets much hatred from silly fans... lol It's totally underrated, one of their very best albums. :-]
Hehe, awesome! Really glad my review has had that effect. 🙌 I don't know if you're in any Facebook metal groups, but I'd really appreciate you giving this video a share. 😊👊🤘
First Off: I was a Huge kollecter of Kerrang magazine in the mid-late 90s.👍 Still have some klassik issues of it from that era, and todays writing from todays magazines kannot kompete to the banter, humour and rock community spirit captured each week by the Big K back then! Your good self, Mörat, , Phil Alexander 'imself. I loved yer words and articles on everything each week👊🤘🤘🤘 GREAT review!! The exciter is revved up for this album now. I liked this method of reviewing, ranking each song. Keep up the good work, mate.🤘
Awww, that's great to hear - cheers! Especially as, when I was reading your comment, I wondered if you were about to say, "I used to enjoy your K! stuff... but this video is RAMBLING NONSENSE". 😆😆 I'm glad you're excited about the album and enjoyed the format of this video. I don't have time to make as many videos as I might like, and so I wanted to make something that might stand the test of time, rather than simply offering a review. I'd really appreciate it if you fancied sharing the video in your fave FB metal group if you have one! 😊👊
@@PossessedByMetal666 I wish ya magic mountains of success with the channel! I would LOVE to see videos inwhich, you reflect back on klassik issues of Kerrang. Maybe reflect on a cover story that you wrote- what was it like to work there during those exciting times? Bands like Nirvana and Korn lead and left the 90s in totally Diff'rent Strokes from each other. When Nevermind and "Korn" hit the decks inthe Kerrang offices, they got great reviews. But, did those initial listens make ye think that, they'd usher in new eras of Rock culture that would see things change so much and reformat things so much? Most people were genuinely blindsided by Nirvanas impact at the time, since the main bands and Kerrangs format itself were still rockin' to its hard rockin' roots( bloody roots). Id love a video, hearing you discuss things like that, via looking back on a klassik issue o'the Big K. Hearing you chat with todays perspectuve and hindsight about then unknown bands that, maybe you wouldnt have initially thought would be as world changing as they were. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for a great review. Been living with Invincible shield (including the three bonus tracks) for almost three weeks now and I must say it's a great album. In my book it even surpasses Firepower, hell, even Painkiller. To me the weakest tracks are, Giants in the sky, Trial by fire and Crown of horns. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Really glad you're into the record. And yes, I think I do prefer it to Painkiller. The production is much stronger. The guitars on Painkiller are actually a little thin, even though the riffs are great. 😊🤘👊
What an amazing album! I've listened to it eight times so far, so this order could still change. There is not a weak song on the album. 1. Panic Attack 2. Trial By Fire 3. Invincible Shield 4. Crown of Thorns 5. Gates of Hell 6. With God as My Witness 7. Giants in the Sky 8. The Serpent and the King 9. Devil in Disguise 10. Escape from Reality 11. Sons of Thunder
Just caught the start of the tour in Glasgow last night. The songs from the new album work well, and the title track is on another level, kicking off an incredible run of 3 songs in that section of the show which is totally epic. I wont give too much away but if you have tickets for later shows in the tour, its only going to get better.
What a great review. You've set the bar high for this album. The detail you put into each song is amazing. I've only heard the 3 songs that have been released and I love em all. You've pumped me up for the rest of the album. The first time I saw Priest live was 1984, "Defenders of the Faith" tour at the Nassau Collisiem, NY. Which is one of my favorites too. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album. Thanks for that review!
What a great first comment on this video! Thank you so much. I'm so glad it's pumped you up even more. And wow, I would have loved to have seen Priest on that tour. Were they super energised? 😊👊🤘
I LOVE JUDAS PRIEST! AND THIS ALBUM! It has become my favourite album by JP. Defenders of the Faith, Killing Machine, Painkiller and Sad Wings of Destiny are the other albums in my top 5 list by JP. I agree with almost everything you say in this video, but disagree a bit about your ranking. But then again, I love all this songs. Here is how I would rank them from best to a little less good: 1. Escape From Reality 2. Panic Attack 3. Invincible Shield 4. Crown of Horns 5. (The Lodger) 6. As God is my Witness 7. The Serpent and the... 8. Devil in Disguise 9. Trial by Fire 10. Giants in the Sky 11. Sons of Thunder 12. Gates of Hell 13. (Fight of Your Life) 14. (Vicious Circle) 🤘
Thank you! Great to see different rankings. Wow, so my number 11 was your number one! Just goes to show that this is an album that will inspire different responses from different people.😊👊🤘
I don't know who you are but consider me a fan. I can tell you're knowledgeable about Priest. I have only listened to Invincible Shield twice since its release yesterday. I think it's their best album since Painkiller. I didn't like Firepower as much as everyone else and I definitely like Invincible Shield more. Everyone in the band is firing on all cylinders, the production is top notch. I'm honestly shocked at how good this album is. As a guitarist, I rank your final song, Escape from Reality higher because I think the riffs are some of the more unique ones on the album. I have only had 2 listens so far so it's too recent to pick my favorite songs but I agree that the songs are varied and represent different types of Priest songs so fans opinions will be varied on favorite songs. Chad, 36 from Canada..... Priest is tied with AC/DC for my favorite band. Thanks.
Great to meet you, Chad! And always nice to win someone over with a video. The Escape From Reality riffs definitely are nicely creative. Thanks for watching and commenting! What is your own current Number One song on the Shield record? 😊👊🤘
Escape From Reality 😉 as much as I love the classic Priest formula songs, I'm always excited to see what unique things they bring to a new album. I think Escape from Reality has riffs that only would of happened with a younger, fresher voice in the band.....there are moments for everyone on this album. I'm a sucker for the old school opening and closing of the High Hat in songs so I really liked Devil in Disguise, the guitar riffs are great too but I do think the chorus isn't as strong as other songs . Serpent and the King is the easy answer, an instant classic, Great Riffs and A standout performance by Rob. I've had it stuck in my head since its release as a single.... I also think there are some Growers on this album. Trial by Fire was released as the second? Single and either I missed it or must have only listened to it once because I enjoy it more and more. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the classic Priest, slow guitar build up intro. It just occurred to me but is this the Priest Album with the least amount of Screams by Rob? I think he delivers a great performance but I think he only had the classic screamed chorus to end the song once or twice? I'm not complaining, it just stood out to me. This album might actually might bring in new fans because some people don't like the high vocals/screams.
Cool video. My rankings: 1) Invincible shield 2) As god is my witness (verges on power metal but still heavy, catchy, awesome vocals) 3) The serpent and the king 4) Panic attack (originally my #1 but after more listens went down a bit) 5) Sons of thunder (like you said, a grower! did not like it much at first) 6) Trial by fire 7) Devil in disguise (a bit by the numbers, but a catchy chorus and a nice solo) 8) Giants in the sky 9) Crown of horns (sometimes i skip it... just to get to "as god is my witness") 10) Gates of hell (almost always skip this one, lyrics just don't make any sense to me) 11) Escape from reality (the only song that feels disposable, should have been replaced with one of the bonus tracks)
Super hyped, preorder was sent yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. To release something like this 50y after your first album, seriously, mad respects.
I'm so excited to get my CD. From what I've heard so far I'm absolutely loving it .. been a priest fanatic since I was 11 in 57 they will forever remain my favorite band. Although I miss the KK Glenn days I still love my boys. Halford absolutely sounds fantastic. I love pretty much all of their CDs. From Rocka Rolla all the way up. Only priest I couldn't get into was Ripper era . Not a fan, although I do like Ripper with KKs Priest. But I'm so excited to hear the entire CD, and get to see them
Awesome, Shari! How exciting to have the band still making music after all these decades. 😊👊 I just dropped a new video in which I compare the new record to Firepower!
Great review! I’m curious if you heard the bonus tracks? I watched The Metal Voice interview Richie and he said the bonus tracks are just as good as anything on the record if not better than some of the tracks
Thank you Tyler! I have yet to hear the bonus tracks and can't wait to do so - especially now you've told me that. I need to catch up with the MV interview. 😊👊🤘 Vicious Circle sounds especially... well, vicious!
Yeah there seems to be hype for the bonus tracks as well, just from his interview anyways. But yeah definitely check the interview out with Richie, good insight on the album!
What a cracking, detailed, unbiased and in depth review, superb! Looking fwd the album TOTALLY AGREE re Hard as Iron on RID, magnificent beast of a track, always wanted a live performance👍💯💥 TOTALLY DISAGREE with PRODUCTION so far on Invincible Shield😒. Guitars lack edge and Scott sounds as though he's beating a shopping bag full of porridge! Tsangarides set the bar high to me, RIP, the four after that, although Firepower was OKish, and certainly what I've heard of this, are apprentice jobs, NOT the music as such, just production. Thanks again for this review, excellent!
Agree on the production. I don’t mind a more “modern” production but there are drawbacks. I think Pretty Maids, the “Pandemonium” record pulled it off pretty well but I wouldn’t want that exact sound every album; hell I don’t want that exact sound every song on the same album. 😂 “Screaming for Vengeance” has the best production for me. It doesn’t mean any of the separate tones of the instruments are the best. But you crank that remaster on something like “Riding On The Wind”………unbeatable.
@@thestarseeker8196 SFV was a cracker in every aspect, I thought CT nailed what I know as the priest sound on Painkiller IMHO, but was never re employed🥴AOR was a very lukewarm production IMHO again.
I love the fact that they didn't stand by and rely on past achievements. They've become a power metal band which is awesome to me. Their keeping up with the Joneses they got room to grow they are really great can't wait till they come to Evansville May 17th
Great review. I agree with a lot. The opening 3 tracks are AWESOME! Like you said they never opened an album like that before! Those three and As God... Are my faves. Overall a fantastic album. No need to skip any tracks. I'm not that fond of Sons of Thunder though. Easily my least fave and way to high in your rankings imo. You could even through in the 3 bonus tracks from the deluxe version and Sons... would still come in last. Fight of Your Life is awesome and should have been on the regular album.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. It's funny - Sons Of Thunder started out way lower down the list, but I just grew to love it! I do love Fight Of Your Life, mainly for the amazing chorus. 😊👊🤘
At the moment my top 5 is 1. As God is My Witness 2. Serpent and the King 3. Fight for your Life 4. Invincible Shield 5. Escape from Reality All in all, this album is sooo good
@@PossessedByMetal666 The digital stream I was emailed from Sony had the bonus tracks. All 3 are good, The Lodger is the strangest of the bunch but in a very cool way. Invincible Shield would be high up on my JP album rankings.
Hi, thanks so much for your review. Can you tell me about high screams and clean hight nites by Rob? How many high vocals on this album and where best sounded high notes?
Hi there! You're very welcome for the review. I think the screamiest song would have to be The Serpent And The King. There are also some great screeched words in the title track. 🤔🤔😊🤘
Hello there, thank you for the great review. Just one question, in your opinion - imagine you already know both albums very well and Invincible shiled is not so fresh anymore, what is your favorit - Firepower or Invincible shield? Thank you..
Hey there! Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the review. And you must be psychic, because my plan now is to make a (much shorter!) video about Shield Vs Firepower! 😊🤘
I put up a Poll on my channel between, Angel of Retribution, firepower, redeemer of souls, and Invincible shield and I'm shocked at the results at the moment as firepower is winning... its early so it might change
Hard as iron was one of my favorite tracks of ram it down album, alonside title track and blood red sky so if new song As god is my fitness is hard as iron part 2 sigh me up! \m/ 😁
Awesome - you are clearly a person of taste, as Blood Red Skies is my 2nd fave song from that album. As God Is My Witness is definitely musically along those lines, although the great thing is it's completely its own beast, with some really strong melodies. What's been your fave from among the first 3 singles of Shield? 😊🤘
3 singles that have released so far, i really like panic attack most, as it is fastest song the 3 and i like heavier side of priest but melodic crown of horns is is also good song that stuck my head when i first heard it. :D@@PossessedByMetal666
That A string riffage they do in The Serpent and the King, it’s kind of like a really good Fastway or Nugent, or even Riot type riff. It’s similar to Hell Bent, Deliverin the Goods verse, and they do a lot in the key of A. Rock Forever, Grinder, headin out, Freewheel, Screamin, all in same ballpark.. Genocide.. probably forgetting a few but E, A, and F# seem to be their fave keys or choruses
Thanks! I'm a bit vague on this stuff, but I know exactly what you mean by a-string riffage. 👊 So, when the verses start, does the song actually switch to the key of E? 🤔🤔🤔
@@PossessedByMetal666Now that we've all heard the record, I think As God as My Witness is a Glenn Tipton track. Think it could have been recorded from a different session? It doesnt quite sound the same as the ones that follow it. The solo is an unmistakablly Glenn Tipton.
I haven’t heard anything from the album except Panic Attack and I think that has the worst chorus in the history of Priest,it really annoys me.But the LP is pre ordered and I will wait until I get it to hear the full album. I liked your video Jason it was interesting and it gave me good hopes for the album. I really looking forward to it’s release 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hey there! Glad you're buzzed up. I haven't heard anything about a fourth single, but that absolutely doesn't mean there won't be one. If there was another, I think The Serpent And The King would be a good choice. 🤔🤔 Which has been your fave of the singles so far?
@@PossessedByMetal666 Panic Attack is my favorite. Then Trial, Then Crown but I love all 3 so much and cannot wait until the full album drop. I can’t wait to hear The Serpent and the King in full!!!
I thought Devil in Disguise has a bit of a Savatage feel to it! I also thought Gates in Hell would have fit well on Defenders. Rock Hard, Ride Free was also what it reminded me of as well! I think Gates of Hell is the early fav on first couple listens.. It's scratching a lot of those ear worm itches.
Ah yes, Savatage! I must make a video about Hall Of The Mountain King some time. Glad you're liking the record, and that my Ride Free comparison wasn't way off! 😊👊🤘
I'd be curious to know what you think of Nostradamus! I see a lot of dislike, and even hate toward it... Out of the 23 songs on it, i dislike 4 of them, The rest i think are good songs, and out of those "good songs" i think 9 of them are totally amazing stand alone songs, with some of the most unique and best work JP has ever done. Shadows In The Flame/Visions and Alone are my two very favorite songs on it, and in my top 50 Priest songs of all time list. With as deep as you thought out this review for Invincible Shield, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Nostradamus! I'm going to look at your channel, and see if you have a video for it already.

Do not say anything bro. Nostradamus is imho the 2nd or 3rd most hated and misunderstood metal album of the new millenium (right after St. Anger and Risk). I really do blame especially hardcore JP fans and they bigotry who ruined the renown of this magnificent album. This album is far far from being one of their worst albums as far as I am concerned. Fist of all this album is full of deep emotions and rock solid lyrics. I literally can see long faces of simple fans of the middle class who expected another Painkiller, SFV or DOTF for that matter. Luckily none of these monsters are present here. We got an absolutely innovative approach in songwriting and creating the music in general. The only flaws I can't deny is the length (102 minutes holy Molly!), fake orchestration (was it really that expensive to hire live orchestra?) and nearly missing guitars that used to be the main key player in 99% of their discography). I would say Nostradamus is one of the very 1st victims of the todays hurried period where people have literally no time to sit down and listen to their bands anymore. For me Nostradamus is 6,5/10 album definitely. Not their best but definitely not their TOP 5 (worst).
Hi there Kevin! You know, I really need to go back and listen to Nostradamus again for the first time in many years! All too often, I'm guilty of forgetting it even exists, despite owning that nice box set that came out. Could be interesting to cover it some day... 😊👊

@@kevincurpheymusic that was definitely not said in an offensive way by any means. It was more like "oh man here is my point of view". 😂 Did not want to ruin your circles bro. Btw Invincible Shield slays in a brutal way!🎉
Its gonna take a while to really get familiar with ALL the songs on this album. However, ONE song has been played over and over all day either in my earphones or in my truck.... INVINCIBLE SHIELD 🤘🤘🤘🤘I really didnt care for that name particularly but the song had me hitting REPLAY over and over!!! It reminds me of the "feeling" i had the first time i heard Turbo...could NOT get enough of that song when it came out. Another thing comin' is another Priest song that was like "ear heroin" to me and INVINCIBLE is right up there with those songs for me. Im sure the more i listen the more I'll like it as well!! Some songs just have something about it that just hit me (the songs mentioned above) Kiss's Heaven's on fire, AC/DC's Back in Black, Megadeth 's Symphony of Destruction (and many more im sure) just have something that locks it in my brain forever. INVINCIBLE (as of yet) brings all those heart racing emotions out of me EVERY SINGLE time i play it🤘🤘
Yeah, me too! It's a truly amazing song, so intense AND tuneful. And they just released an amazing proper video for it, with them all playing together! 😊👊
Got tickets for Dublin gig. The singles are ok, but nothing special, Panic attack being my favourite. Firepower was such an amazing album, I was counting this wouldn't be that good. But I have to listen it in full, as I said this is my opinion based on the new singles.
Hehe, hey there Mat. I certainly would have, if I'd heard them yet! Sony haven't been making them available. Which has been your fave out of the three lead singles? 😊👊🤘
I love The Sentinel too! Don't think there's anything much like it on this record. Actually, I felt like Necromancer on Firepower was in a similar mould! Mainly in the verses. 😊👊🤘

Honestly everytime I hear that quote: "Honey, we got to talk" or "boys we have to talk" I suffer from Panic Attack, but Hope this time it will be a much more pleasant discussion by far (btw Crown of Horns is irresistible holy Cow)
Hehe, it's a classic TH-cam style of title that I thought I'd try. 😆😆 And yes, Crown Of Horns is irresistible, even for a thrash metal fan like me! Thanks so much for watching. I'd really appreciate it if you fancied sharing the video in your fave FB metal group if you have one! 😊👊
Are these farts so good or are todays younger bands that bad? Honestly I love these 3 songs with superb lyrics (Panic Attack and espec. CoH). Definitely gonna purchase that record
its ok. my issue with it is there isnt much variation of song. all the songs are dense guitars and rolling drums on pretty much every song. think of a Priest album like Defenders...or any from back in the day.... you had free wheel burning...and then you had Love bites...from there you had heavy duty......3 songs, same album...3 incredibly different song styles. here its just all steady guitars droning all thru every track played pretty much the same way.
Hey there Tony! Must admit, I can't agree with this. 🤔 Maybe it's because I've been living with the album for a good while now. I'd be interested to hear if the songs become more distinct for you over time! 👊🤘😊
@@PossessedByMetal666 I’ve spent enough time with them to certainly tell them apart… I expected the songs to be in the same vein…. I just expected more variety of song set up and styles.
Panic Attack RIPS. Definite Painkiller meets Turbo vibes. Yes Turbo vibes and I mean it as a positive. Overall I love the new album. As cliche as it may sound it might be my favorite thing Priest have done since Painkiller.
I'm really looking forward to hearing it. The only downside to it so far as I can see is the packaging on the CD. It's one of them digisleeves for the regular album. The only people buying CDs these days are nerds. Nerds like consistency. Firepower came in a jewel case . Digisleeves are a bridge too far.
Hey there MM! I don't mind digisleeves, but I totally know what you mean about the difference between jewel and digisleeve. Mmmmm, I do like the look of the Deluxe hard media case, though! I actually recorded half of a Metal Tag video last month. Must get it done while it's still 2024. 👀
Defenders of The Faith has 4 blasters to start off the album.....IMHO it's the best album they have ever done, Yes that's right better than SFV and Painkiller which are great albums but DOTF is a historical album!
I couldn't disagree more, I find it's their most overrated album I like two great songs the rest is kind of bland (badly) overproduced metal pop. It has really gone down my list in later years but then again, it was never a fave of mine to begin with even back then I felt disappointed by it.
Hi there! For a long time, Screaming was my fave, but in recent years Defenders has taken the top spot. When I say blasters, though, I mean fast songs as opposed to just 'bangers'. 😊 I wouldn't call Ride Hard Ride Free a blaster, when judged by that criteria. Love it, though, of course! 😊🤘👊
You have a right to your opinion...I believe the opposite..it's not overrated as on many critics lists it's like #4 or #5 ...They pick the early stuff and I get that..however It was Screaming and Defenders that captured most if not all of the spotlight and crowds in the 80's If it weren't for those albums there wouldn't be a Painkiller ...Which although I like the album I no longer listen to the title track and there are 4 songs on that album that are okay and not great. The screaming and Defenders albums 's are the best back to back albums that Priest ever made@@LarryFleetwood8675
JP is my all time favo band, but I never was so uninterested in a new Priest album like nowadays. Why? The new single´s? Or I dont like the modern power metal sound Priest have the last decade and this has nothing to do with Ritchie. Without him they would not exist anymore. I like the old school metal Downing/Tipton sound. And Priest hasn´t it anymore album wise and live too.
I like JP nowadays too but not as much as the "original". Redeemer was a 7/10, Firepower a 8,5/10. The new songs are Panic attack 8/10, Trail by fire 7/10 and Crown of horns a 6/10. And if you say that there are songs not as good as Chrown of horns.....mmmhhh. We will see.@@PossessedByMetal666
A Priest fan for 45 years. Aside from the fact that Rob is in great voice, the songs so far have been very average. Serpent is the best, having a good verse but a lazy chorus. Priest have been hit and miss since Defenders and Firepower was a poor listen. Hoping for some good interesting songs here, but not that optimistic.
Redeemer and Firepower were at least tolerable. Redeemer was probably better than it got credit for being, though it was mastered amateur level. I read good stull about Invincible Shield. But I find it to be so bad it gave me anxiety looking for the album and songs people described. It was horrible. Not one good song. The music is a mess of aimless riffs. Halford never sounds like he is singing with the band. Of course vocals are recorded apart from the music but the idea is they fit together. But they seem very much apart. The lyrics are so bad that a few times Halford twists the hell out of words trying in vain to create rhymes.
Hi there. Wow, that's interesting, that you reacted pretty strongly against Firepower and yet are loving the new stuff! Which is your fave of the three Shield singles? 😊🤘

Either way, Im looking forward to it.👍
can't wait i've been a fan since 1977
@@kylereece1979 Great words, Kyle! Yes, Defenders is my fave previous Priest record for sure. :)
I heard the album a couple of weeks ago... absolutely love it!
Can't wait!
@metalpilgrim why haven't you already done a full album review?
Is your track order from the best to... well... almost the best similar?
@@PossessedByMetal666 Thanks man! I actually agree with you on the best track. Invincible Shield is one of the best songs Judas Priest have ever written! And it says a lot ;)
Really looking forward to hearing the complete album. The first 3 tracks have been fantastic. Your review raises the hype.
Hey there David! Thanks for watching. Really glad you're into the tracks you've heard so far. 😊👊🤘 Which is your fave of those three?
@@PossessedByMetal666 probably PANIC ATTACK
@@davidscottlane7771 That was such a great first single, right?
Awesome! Can’t wait… and there are also more bonus tracks
Hey there, glad you're excited! Yes, I'm excited to hear those bonus tracks too. 😆
Thanks so much, Jay! Yes, funnily enough, when I recently revisited Firepower, I remembered how strong Rising From Ruins is. 😊👊🤘
Preordered! Man, I am SO PUMPED for this album! And I dig the weird psychedelic cover art. It’s a cool change from Priest keeping it interesting!
I agree! They're both invaluable, it seems to me. Glad you're loving the new stuff! 😊👊
Ever since I started listening to Priest in 1980 I've noticed they have a lot of songs where you are like it's ok on first listen to become one of favorites as you start to understand what they are doing.
This is true! And it's wonderful that a metal band can have so much depth. 🤘👊😊
That sounds incredible! Thanks for describing it so vividly. 😊🤘
I was in the same age then you and I saw them too for the first time in Munich, Germany, with Ted Nugent opening up as special guest!! Absolutely unforgettable!!!
I can't imagine, Defenders of the Faith is my personal favorite Priest album. I wish I could of seen that tour back then.
Man! I can tell your emotion almost crying by the end of the video! Oh God I cant wait to hear it!!! LOVE Firepower but I believe this IShield is gonna be EVEN BETTER! Thanks for your review, greetings from Spain 🎉Long Live Heavy Metal. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

Great summary, Jason! I also love the underrated "Hard as Iron" and I really think it deserved a revisit with the new formation. It would be great!
Woohoo! Great to meet a fellow Hard As Iron digger! Actually, wow - wouldn't that be interesting, to hear the current line up re-record some older material with an Andy Sneap production? 😲😊🤘
Oh, and thanks so much for the kind words
Great ranking and review. I'd like to see more of these.
Here's my ranking:
1. The Serpent and the King
2. Invincible Shield
3. Panic Attack
4. Sons of Thunder
5. Escape From Reality
6. Gates of Hell
7. Trial By Fire
8. Devil in Disguise
9. As God is my Witness
10. Giants in the Sky
11. Crown of Horns
Thanks David! Always love to see other rankings. And we both have Sons Of Thunder at No 4 😊👊🤘
I never in my life would have thought that any material after Firepower could come even close.
One thing: Whats wrong with Turbo??😂 Its a really good 80s synth metal album!!🤘🤘
"Point of Entry" is the Priest album for me that I skip over. Despite a couple of good songs (Headin out to the Highway), I think its mostly B-side quality pub rock.😊
@@kylereece1979 I agree! Turbo is underrated and Point of Entry kinda overrated 😇
I preordered the album months ago and having heard the review, it seems to be the greatest choice I've ever made.
I loved yer words and articles on everything each week👊🤘🤘🤘
GREAT review!!
1. Panic Attack
2. Trial By Fire
3. Invincible Shield
4. Crown of Thorns
5. Gates of Hell
6. With God as My Witness
7. Giants in the Sky
8. The Serpent and the King
9. Devil in Disguise
10. Escape from Reality
11. Sons of Thunder

@PossessedByMetal666 thanks, will do.
Just caught the start of the tour in Glasgow last night. The songs from the new album work well, and the title track is on another level, kicking off an incredible run of 3 songs in that section of the show which is totally epic. I wont give too much away but if you have tickets for later shows in the tour, its only going to get better.
Sounds brilliant, Stuart! So glad you enjoyed and that the title track came across so well. 😊👊🤘
Here is how I would rank them from best to a little less good:
1. Escape From Reality
2. Panic Attack
3. Invincible Shield
4. Crown of Horns
5. (The Lodger)
6. As God is my Witness
7. The Serpent and the...
8. Devil in Disguise
9. Trial by Fire
10. Giants in the Sky
11. Sons of Thunder
12. Gates of Hell
13. (Fight of Your Life)
14. (Vicious Circle)
🤘
Cool video. My rankings:
1) Invincible shield
2) As god is my witness (verges on power metal but still heavy, catchy, awesome vocals)
3) The serpent and the king
4) Panic attack (originally my #1 but after more listens went down a bit)
5) Sons of thunder (like you said, a grower! did not like it much at first)
6) Trial by fire
7) Devil in disguise (a bit by the numbers, but a catchy chorus and a nice solo)
8) Giants in the sky
9) Crown of horns (sometimes i skip it... just to get to "as god is my witness")
10) Gates of hell (almost always skip this one, lyrics just don't make any sense to me)
11) Escape from reality (the only song that feels disposable, should have been replaced with one of the bonus tracks)
Whoa, we share the same top 3, and almost top 5! Thank you for sharing your list. 😊👊🤘
Hope to like this album. Haven't liked much since Defenders.
Hey there William. Hope you do. Come back and let me know. 😊👊🤘

TREMENDOUS IN-DEPTH review!
Hey there Michael, thanks so much. Please tell metal-loving friends! 😊🤘👊
Hey there! Thanks very much - you're very welcome. Do feel free to share this video in any metal groups you're a member of. 😊🤘👊
So exciting, right? What's your fave track on the new album? 😊👊🤘
Great stuff!
Glad you think so! Cheers! 😊👊🤘
What about Mr. Tipton, is he on this new album.

Interesting! I guess one factor could be that people have only had a few days in which to digest the new record. 😊👊
I love Escape from Reality, sounds like Sabbath meets Monster Magnet. Apart from that your list is pretty similar to mine, only the other way round.
Hehe! Similar but also kinda opposite. 😆 At least we'll agree on the middle track, in that case. 😊👊🤘
Lovin' this album. Seeing them tomorrow with Saxon - the gig my teen self would have killed for 🤘
Hooray, glad you're loving it! And hell yes, what an amazing double-header. Enjoy! 😊👊🤘
Hard as Iron is a killer track! Best song on Ram it Down. It's the proto-Painkiller song. A taste of things to come.
That's a good way to look at it! 😊👊🤘
Hey there! Glad you have the album coming. Return and let me know how you feel about it! 👊😊🤘
I absolutely can’t wait for this album! Do you know if there will be a 4th single or are these 3 we get until the album comes out?
What did you mean by "don't say anything" ?
Hi there Kevin! You know, I really need to go back and listen to Nostradamus again for the first time in many years! All too often, I'm guilty of forgetting it even exists, despite owning that nice box set that came out. Could be interesting to cover it some day... 😊👊
@@kevincurpheymusic that was definitely not said in an offensive way by any means. It was more like "oh man here is my point of view". 😂 Did not want to ruin your circles bro. Btw Invincible Shield slays in a brutal way!🎉
Nostra is My all time favorite album
one shot at glory closing song of painkiller one best on the album😊
Hey there! Yes, that is indeed a rare example of a closing rocker. Great song. 😊👊🤘
@@PossessedByMetal666 Hi Great review thou you made more more intrigued to hear the album. 😊
Cant order the album until March, pffff
Oh, that sounds odd. Why is that? ☺👊
Hey there! Will be interesting to see how you feel about the full album. Come back and give me your song ranking! 😊🤘👊
Did you hear the 3 bonus tracks as well or these remain a mystery?
Hey there. They are indeed a mystery as yet! I'll surely make another video about those when I lay ears on them. 😊👊
should've included the obligatory bonus tracks in the ranking ;)
Hehe, hey there Mat. I certainly would have, if I'd heard them yet! Sony haven't been making them available. Which has been your fave out of the three lead singles? 😊👊🤘
The sentinel is my favourite track! Will I be happy? 😅
Glad you're into it! 😊👊🤘
I got the deluxe cd, and the bonus tracks really top it off for me. One is kind of a dud, but I enjoy the others.
Which one don't you enjoy, Glen? :)
Ranking, best to worst.
1- Crown
2- Witness
3- Escape
4- Panic
5- Fire
6- Giants
7- Devil
8- Invincible
9- Serpent
10- Gates
11- Thunder
Hey there, thanks for sharing! Great to see your list. :)
its ok. my issue with it is there isnt much variation of song. all the songs are dense guitars and rolling drums on pretty much every song. think of a Priest album like Defenders...or any from back in the day.... you had free wheel burning...and then you had Love bites...from there you had heavy duty......3 songs, same album...3 incredibly different song styles. here its just all steady guitars droning all thru every track played pretty much the same way.
Awesome! So glad you're into it. 😊🤘👊
Hard as Iron rules.
Hooray! Great to meet someone who agrees. That song doesn't get talked about nearly enough 😊🤘👊
Hard as Iron you say? My goodness this is gonna be a good listen
Hooray! Someone who understands Hard As Iron. 👊🤘😆
Been a Priest fan since the 80’s, they age like fine wine. They only sound better as you get older.
Absolutely, an endlessly drinkable 🍷 😊👊🤘
What else do you expect from the METAL GOD?
Indeed! 😊👊🤘
NO ONE COMPARES THEY ARE THE METAL GODS they still got it
Richie Faulkner is it true Judas Priest member guitar work amazing
Absolutely! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊👊🤘
The Lodger?!
The screaming and Defenders albums
's are the best back to back albums that Priest ever made@@LarryFleetwood8675
Serpent in the king
The best closing song on a judas priest album is one shot of glory very epic
Yes! That is a great one. 😊👊🤘
9/10
Not a bad score! 😊👊🤘
Hi there! I'll be interested to hear if you still feel that way after hearing this album. 😊🤘
Hey there. Thanks for sharing your views! 😊👊🤘
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ☺️👊
Firepower was mostly awful. Im so happy wiith the new stuff. Seems like Shield is gonna blow FP awway.
Hi there. Wow, that's interesting, that you reacted pretty strongly against Firepower and yet are loving the new stuff! Which is your fave of the three Shield singles? 😊🤘
Same here, never liked Firepower much especially the production already IS promises to be better.
Someone help me understand this obsession with ranking everything. It's so basic and beaten to death 😄
P.S. - I'm not asking why creators do it, I'm asking why viewers want it. It's obviously one of the cheapest, easiest ways to get views.
I was really hoping that someone would reply with a list of reasons... in order of importance. 😄 There's still time!
Number 3 boring
Wow. 😲😆😊👊
Bla, bla, bla.....Who are you??? You talk nonsense...
Nonsense is my calling card! I am nothing without nonsense. 😆👊
@@PossessedByMetal666 that's what i thought 🤫
@@IvoDimitrov-b1s I'm not only about the nonsense, though. I also enjoy tomfoolery and jibber-jabber.
Bro you ve got problem obviously 😅
You're a psychiatrist??? No. you're just stupid.
i ,m so disappointing with gates of hell for the title I was expecting a fast and aggressive song like painkiller record
🥲
I know what you mean! But it is a really fun and strong song in its own right. 😊🤘👊
