I'm not agree. The riff and the solo on on invisible Shield are weaker and the solo too. Lack of Tipton investment and the solo is nothing to compare with the best duo of Kk and Tipton. It's not Priest anymore
When I graduated BCT GNR was floating around, and was my favorite. I'm one of those GRUNTS that LOVE SLASH, and NOT THE WHINEY AXL OF THE WHEEL...
I think that those 2 live tracks on original album should not be added. Always sucks to have demos, live or unreleased tracks as some kind of "bonus". Really don't like it. Otherwise this box looks nice. Now it has affordable price so i will probably buy one for myself.
Media is a cancer to society. Social media is even worse.
Thanks for sharing your Dio band Top 20. I like many doff the cap to the debut. I would include ‘Between Two Hearts’ were Ronnie lyrically appears to be referencing toxic relationships, with Rowan Robertson’s discordant guitar figures driving the message home. Dying In America,Firehead,Hollywood Black,This Is Your Life,Evilution,Pain,Jesus Mary & The Holy Ghost,As Long As It’s Not About Love,Shivers,The Man Who Would Be King,Killing The Dragon& Along Comes A Spider.
I have the DVD and it’s a great gig. Any set list with Sign Of The Southern Cross,Tarot Woman & Gates Babylon means it’s a must buy. Doug Aldrich was great throughout. Gypsy was great and the drum solo meant that I could get the Kettle on..
Thanks for covering this. I resisted the bumf..ditto and fortunately the standalone Blu-ray,was more in my price range. The Blu-ray package had a 4K format which I couldn’t play. Great film/documentary which I saw in the Cinema on a limited screening in the U.K. The film is good as it draws in the casual fan as well. Ronnie’s pre-Wendy marriage is airbrushed out the proceedings, and Ronnie’s adopted son,Dan,should have got more camera time, perhaps as a bonus feature.
I absolutely love this album. I think the guys did a great job with it, which is amazing given how deep they are into their career.
Absolutely, it's a doozy!
Pete truly seems like the guy who could have a conversation with the man on the corner or tell someone F off. Just such a man who kept the Regular part of himself while walking through a extraordinary life. ❤. Wish i met him
Peter has become for me a guiding light basically for lack of a better term an angel. I love that he refers to a god as female. Peter lives in the eternal autumn l. He has been released to the earthly and cosmic elements. I feel his presence in nature. There wasn’t a more self aware soul such as Peter. His honesty is unparalleled. His art is timeless for me. RIP Petrus. The green man. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Very late but still, here´s my answer to why "Expurse..." came out only two months before "Persecution...": We all know the story of their first EP intended to be a full album and the lable aborted the recording session. Then "Obsessed..." had to be recorded twice. Now, in 1987 the band had yet another lineup and the lable was not sure about that. "Expurse..." was some kind of a "test balloon" for the company to see if and how it´ll work out. Steamhammer had to invest a lot more in the production and the marketing for the "Persecution..." album... understandable they wanted to be 100% sure. A couple of years ago I saw Sodom opening a gig by playing the whole EP in reverse order... nice, huh?
Absolutely love this answer and info. Thank you!
I’m suprised at the overall quality of your commentary. I found myself pausing and going back and forth between your video, and the specific parts of the songs/album as you mentioned them. Even with Heads Are Gonna Roll…your snippet about how the same guy wrote The Lodger sparked my curiosity! Would you ever incorporate very brief cutaways to those actual song parts, in future commentary like this?
Thank you for the kind words! Including music would be great, but i would need to clear the video with Sony, which adds a whole other layer of complexity and time. :) I wouldn't rule it out in future, though! You might want to check out my metal community, by the way. I feel you'd enjoy! Https://www.skool.com/metal
3 classic EPs. 1. Flag of Hate. 2. Expurse of Sodomy, 3. Mad Butcher. Loved everything on Flag of Hate. Take their Lives and Awakening of the Gods were 2 barnburners. Expurse of Sodomy EP is very different from Obsessed By Cruelty. Persecution Mania's release two months later turned me into a Sodom fan. Destruction on the other side went in a wrong direction with their progressive style.
This video didn't get many views, so I love it when someone posts a comment. Thank you! :)
Still have my German Steamhammer OG of first 2 Destruction classics. Infernal Overkill tops Eternal Devastation in my opinion though.
Awesome! Those first releases have so much magic to them. :)
Ranking, best to worst. 1- Crown 2- Witness 3- Escape 4- Panic 5- Fire 6- Giants 7- Devil 8- Invincible 9- Serpent 10- Gates 11- Thunder
Hey there, thanks for sharing! Great to see your list. :)
Unfortunately I wouldn’t want to work for any British metal mags anymore. You worked there when all the great thrash bands were around. Have you seen the state of Kerrang nowadays?
I know, it's a shame. But in fairness to Kerrang!, it's more that today's music is still very emo and tedious. 😆
Great list ❤ I’m glad to know about some tracks that I not familiar to. Thank you!
Awesome! Very happy to have switched you on to some rarer Dio. :)
I can't get into Overkill's first 3 albums, even though they are held in high regard. They sound amateur and dated, even for their time. Look at what the Big 4 had out during those years; they were light years ahead. YoD and Horrorscope were the game changers for me!
Woooooo! Well, I guess I can understand that POV. :)
Great channel! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words. Would love to have you as the latest member of my private community for awesome metalheads, if it feels like the right fit for you: skool.com/metal 👊😊🤘
My fave Dio song.
Ah, which song? :)
1 - Kreator, 2 -- Sodom, 3 - Destruction. I agree, the Destruction EP is a bit.... scrappy. Reject Emotions is cool but the widdly guitar thing is redumbnant and like you I never thought Mad Butcher was close to being their best. The Sodom ep was a huge shock on release because it was so much more 'professional' than 'Obsessed', all three songs are great but it still can't match the Kreator EP. Flag of Hate is good, Take their Lives is killer but Awakening of the Gods is an absolute diamond. This, Pleasure to Kill and Renewal (I know) are the peaks of the Kreator discography for me.
Loving your taste, Rob! Consider joining my private metal community - would love to have you among us! 😊👊🤘 skool.com/metal
There has to be some reason why so many EPs are great, you could extend this to 'Mad Locust Rising' by Agent Steel, 'Warhead' by Venom and 'Haunting the Chapel' by Slayer...
I only heard THE PLASMATICS version of 'The Damned' last year, it's pretty good and there's a video for it which is quite cool too.
Nice one mate, I have it on Higher Roller rec on a coloured variant ( can't remember which one lol). Also have that cassette box set they did of all the early albums
Hey there! Yes, I have a HRR coloured vinyl too. Blue, maybe? Not entirely sure. That cassette box - is that on Darkness Shall Rise or some similar title?
@PossessedByMetal666 yes mate, DSR - I have a few cassette box sets on that label, they are total quality 👌
They look really nice. I like the fact the tape shells are opaque. Transparent shells somehow don't seem 'proper'. 🤔
Yes! EPs in the 80s... classic stuff - Haunting the Chapel, Expurse of Sodomy, Mad Locust Rising, etc etc... killer tracks!
Hell yeah! If you haven't already, you should check out my video on the 'big three' of German thrash EPs. You'll find an onscreen link at the end of this Destruction vinyl video. 👊
@@PossessedByMetal666 Got it cued up ready for my lunchbreak! :)
Awesome! You are exactly the person I made that unpopular video for. 😆😆
Fantastic album, but Infernal Overkill shades it for me.
Hey Rob! You know, it's funny - I like Infernal Overkill, but have never loved it. Love the cover, though, obviously!
@@PossessedByMetal666 Yeah, awesome cover. I had a really bad I.O. T-shirt that I think I got from Shades back in the 80s, managed to replace it when I saw them last year. I think it's partly the production of Eternal Devastation, it's soo scratchy... if it had the same sound as I.O. it would probably be closer, but I still think I.O. would win for me. Maybe it depends when you hear them? Cos being very old I heard all the thrash albums (well not ALL, but all the obvious ones) as they came out, which is maybe why my favourite albums are all debuts, seconds or possibly third releases.
I think Brazil and thrash metal got together like bangers and mash.
Hehe, ain't that the truth, Marc! Hope you're splendidly well. 😊👊🤘
I´ve never seen this pressing of the album, thank you for showing it! Yeah, old Brazilian records... I´m glad I still have my old Cogumelo versions of the Sepultura, Sarcofago and Mutilator records. Fun fact on the "Eternal Devastation" tour. Drummer Tommy was already out of the band and Chris Witchhunter (RIP) played that tour. The tour was called "Hell Comes To Your Town" and Rage and Kreator were part of that. In 2001 they did a "Hell Comes..." part 2 with Kreator, Sodom and Destruction...
Wow! Thanks for this info about the Eternal Devastation tour! I never knew that. We need more awesomely well informed folk like you in my Possessed By Metal VIP community over on Skool. 😊👊🤘
I loved his music, and honestly this interview touches my heart. I believe he was a gentle, and kind soul.
I'm so happy this interview resonated with you, Kate. :)

@@PossessedByMetal666 Absolutely.
Invincible Shield might the Metal album of the year for me. So far at least
Yes, I'd be surprised if I like an album more this year! 😊👊🤘
Great story Jason, I was a big fan of Kerrang!, and your reviews from back in the day, as we have similar musical tastes, and I was very much on the thrash/death metal spectrum, so could count on you for whether to buy an album or not, so it's fascinating knowing how you got the gig. As an aside, that Hades 'If at First you don't Succeed' album in the vid, was my 17th birthday present from 2 of my best mates at the time. Loving the channel, I might even join 🤘
Hey there Gareth! It's always lovely to hear from someone who totally knows and feels that era. Glad you like the video! Just so you know - I'm winding down the TH-cam membership side of this channel, because I started a great metal community on the far superior new platform Skool! Xavier Russell has been posting there, which is so cool to me, because I used to love his reviews before starting to write for Kerrang! myself! If you fancy checking the place out and consider joining the metal merriment, you can do so here: skool.com/metal 👊🤘😊
I like listening to metal from time to time, but I'm no metal head. I have heard some Priest songs before, even learned some on guitar. I liked some of their songs, but I have never bought a full Priest album ... until Invincible Shield ... I love it, from start to finish.
Very cool indeed! And I can understand why. 😊👊🤘 Fave song?
@@PossessedByMetal666 I cannot narrow it down. Invincible shield, Panic Attack, Serpent and King, Crown of Horns, Trial by Fire come to my mind immediately. But the others are growing on me the more I listen to it. I have the version with the three (?) additional songs and even they are not just filler material.
Since I've posted my list on "Possessed by metal -VIP" at Skool I thought I might as well post it in here. Dave Mustaine Wolf Hoffman Paul Quinn Michael Schenker Jeff Waters If you haven't already, check out the Possessed by metal - VIP.
Thank you JD! And it's just as much of a pleasure to see this fine list here, as it was in our VIP group. Glad you're enjoying the place! 😊👊🤘
Uli Jon Roth, Micheal Romeo, Criss Oliva, Akira Takasaki, Micheal Schenker
Criss Oliva! Great call, Paul. 😊👊🤘
Marty Friedman, Jeff Loomis, Andy Sneap, "Fast" Eddy Clarke and Jeff Hanneman. It's actually harder than you think to pick just 5 :/
It so is! I was lucky that I was allowed to get away with six. Thank you for sharing your list!
No order. Malmsteen . Rhoads. Skolnick. Hetfield. Rocky George there was something about his solo's pure feel that spoke to me.. Schuldiner probably the best metal player in the era.
Thanks for the cool list! 😊🤘👊
Muhammed Suiçmez, Tobi Morelli, Dean Lamb
Alexi laiho
Not in order: John Petrucci, Marty Friedman, Dimebag Darrell, Synyster Gates, Yngwie Malmsteen
Thank you for sharing your cool list! 😊👊🤘
Dave Mustaine >>>>>>
A fine axeman for sure!
1. Buckethead 2. Randy Roads 3. Jeff Hanneman 4. Tony Iommi 5. Dave Mustaine
Thank you for the cool list! Although hilariously a TH-cam option has appeared underneath the list, saying Translate to English 👀😆
Andy LaRocque is my no 1 of all time , followed by Jeff Waters, Steve Vai, Mike Wead and Lars Johansson
Fine choices! Although I can't remember who Mike is. 👀😆🤘
@PossessedByMetal666 He is in King Diamond , played in Candlemass, Hexenhaus etc.
I honestly think KK is a little overrated and crammed along with Glenn, when the main guy behind most of Judas Priest is really Glenn. It's to the point that it blurs the line between guitar duo and Glenn being a de facto lead guitarist and KK just making noise most of the time.
Hey there! Belated thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊👊🤘
