Oil Free Crunchy Croutons Recipe: 4 Flavors

  • Zero-added-oil croutons recipe with four flavor variations: Italian Herb, Cheesy Garlic, Smoked Paprika (tastes like bacon IMO), and a sweet crouton recipe: Maple Cinnamon.
    Recipe as follows, but please note:
    Length of time in oven will vary depending on what type of bread you use and how damp the bread gets.
    T = tablespoon
    t = teaspoon
    Bread (any type, especially bread that's been hanging around a while and needs using up) cut into cubes.
    Italian Herb Flavoring
    - 1T Italian Seasoning
    - 1/2t garlic powder
    - 1/4t salt
    Cheesy Garlic Flavoring
    - 1T nutritional yeast
    - 1/2t garlic powder
    - 1/4t salt
    Smoked Paprika
    - 2t smoked paprika
    - 1/2t garlic powder
    - 1/4t salt
    - (you can also add 1T nutritional yeast to this if you like)
    Maple Cinnamon
    - 1T maple syrup
    - 1/2-1T water
    - cinnamon (as much as you want)
    I used a pestle and mortar to turn the flavorings into more of a powder to increase stickage to the bread, but you could also use a small blender to do the same thing, or even a small food processor (though I haven't tried it).
    Spray bread cubes with water (or maple syrup mixture) and add your flavor of choice.
    Place in oven at 300F for ~20 mins.
    Mix croutons around half way and check they're thoroughly crispy before getting out of the oven.
    Enjoy with your favorite soup or salad or just eat as a crispy oil free snack.
