    Hi Kate, I have this book and I am as enthusiastic as you are about it. Your enthusiasm for it has made me get it out again, because i had put it away ( I don’t know why) . It really is a fabulous book! Mine is a 2013 edition and has a video at the back, and only has 32 tutorials, but I was thrilled when I realise it was the same as yours. I think I put it to one side thinking I need to learn how to pattern cut before I learn how to drape and bought some pattern cutting books that just flummoxed me, so I carried on just using bought patterns. Now that you have said this is how you learnt, I’m definitely going to try and work through the book again!
    Thank you so much for this review Kate, I feel inspired. Lots of love 😘😊🌸👏🏼

    I definitely going to buy the book. It is at least most because of your almost sentimental look. You seem so enthusiastic about it. This book must be a winner!

    Intriguing! I am in the process of learning flat pattern making. Didn’t know draping could be used to make these traditional kind of patterns. Thought it was mainly used for different styles of garments that are difficult or even impossible to pattern flat. What I was wondering about is how you add ease to the patterns. The draping I have seen pulls the fabric tight over the mannequin. As I said: intriguing! Thank you for showing the book in detail. 💕

      @TheFoldLine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From my experience because you are fitting the muslin to a something that fits the person wearing it, it's less about the traditional ease you use on flat pattern cutting as you fit it how you want to wear it. I hope that makes sense!

      You pin the fabric with ease allowance on the places where it is needed ( i.e.waist). You hold it in with your hand that has 90degrees between index finger and thumb ( tricky to describe it) but it gives you about half an inch on each side) for a dress..

    Bought this book many years ago as a reminder, very good book. Never got round to making à body double from my standard dressform, too time consuming for my figure . If you are close to standard body measurements of a dressform you will have lots of fun designing new clothes.

    I've just looked on Amazon and the second edition 2020 is priced at varying amounts from £30 to £33. Amazon aren't selling it themselves but they do have the first edition for a similar price! Strange. Anyway, I think you like this book Kate!! Lol! If I was younger I would jump at this as it looks really good but I haven't got the space for all the draping and cutting. Unfortunately I will have to stick to 'ready done' patterns. Thanks so much for this book review. It is very interesting and it is lovely to see your enthusiasm.

    Thank you so much, Kate, for this fantastic review! I live in Semi rural France and am self taught with TH-cam and indie patterns mainly as cannot find proper courses where I am. Never drafted a pattern in my life and have absolutely no idea. Would this be a good book for someone like me, do you think? Thank you x

      Hi Carolina, yes I think it would be great, they start from complete basics and alongside the videos included I think you'd find it really useful. Having done both flat pattern cutting and draping on the stand - I personally prefer it!

    Such a pity that the book isn’t spiral bound. So much easier to follow if you don’t have to weight the pages open.

    Could anyone tell me if the accompanying videos have background music please? I have a disability meaning videos with background music are inaccessible to me. This looks fab and one to add to a wish list but want to know I can make use of the videos.

    • @lilybogaards5089
      @lilybogaards5089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isn’t the whole crux of draping that you don’t have to do these kind of fitting adjustments? You fit directly on the body/mannequin. I think you have to adjust te mannequin to represent the body you want to make the pattern for.
