    Thanks for the review. It was really helpful. I've ordered the book and really excited about getting it now. Also, thanks for all the other videos you've done as well as your fab website. I find them all really useful and interesting and thought that in these strange, unsettling times it might be nice to hear some kind words. Please keep doing what you do because it's brilliant, it's helping people, and it's inserting little bits of much-needed joy into our lives.

    Have a feeling GBSB should have started when the book was released but may have been delayed due to all the rescheduling BBC had to do because of Coronavirus. I think this because its been moved to BBC1 as its normally on BBC2 whic may lead to even more exposure this year for us home sewers and the sewing market in general

    • @Frugalisama
      @Frugalisama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good point Pauline, the book is usually released mid series & then it was scheduled to be on around April 9th but that got changed too

    Hi are you aware that some of the patterns in book have mistakes, I cut the sleep set out and the front for the pants is about 9cms short, also I saw a review on the book and someone mentioned the summer dress front and side panels has no seam allowance. It’s annoying because you don’t know until you are making it up. I will have to measure every piece before I trace the patterns if I make something again, has put me off though

  • @rosyclaire
    @rosyclaire 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I am so disappointed with the new book. I was looking forward to the new Sewing Bee and book, having bought all their previous books.
    However, no need to look for similar patterns as you only have to refer to their previous books and you'll find them there. I'm actually wearing the pussy bow blouse from a previous book as I watch this 🤦‍♀️. The blouse, sleep set, bomber jacket, Marilyn dress and men's linen jacket have all been done on the show before.
    Please BBC don't treat us as idiots like you did last season when the 'winner' won with dresses that would have fitted everyone as they laced up the back !!! There were dresses that may not have looked as pretty but were technically better. I thought this was a competition challenging sewing competency not a design competition. We want to see complicated techniques like the Japanese patterns of previous series.

    • @DaisyHR

      That's such a shame!

    • @RosClarkeCraft
      @RosClarkeCraft 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. I think the show is much improved now that they give more weight to design and style, not just technical sewing competence. In the past people have done well by making clothes that were unflattering and old-fashioned, but well-sewn. I do want the winner to be technically good, but I also want them to make clothes that look great.

    • @sapphirecamui6447
      @sapphirecamui6447 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RosClarkeCraft I think that if the fabric is well chosen for the pattern, and then the garment completed in a careful way, it can look great. A great fit and impeccable technique can ensure a great look.

    Thank you for your review! You mentioned this book in a previous video and I jumped on board and ordered it from Canada. It arrived this week and I love it! You are a great researcher and maybe you or one of your followers can tell me why is it so difficult for Canadians to watch The Great British Sewing Bee? The only versions we've seen are outdated episodes that we can sometimes get via TH-cam. All of us Canadian sewist LOVE this show! We must because we watch badly filmed TH-cam versions over and over! (Personal favorite is the 1950's Walk-Away-dress) anybody out there know anything? (I've even researched if there are DVD versions of past episodes? ) can't find those either.

      The same here in Australia Louise 😢 I think ir has to do with UK television licencing. I think it would be good to 'sew along' with the show (I'm guessing the patterns are the same). We will have to wait for snippets on you tube, in a couple of years.😕 Take Care. Gabrielle

    • @TheFoldLine
      @TheFoldLine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gah I'm so sorry about that - I really don't know why it's only in the UK it must be something to do with licensing.. seems very silly when it would have loads of people across the world who want to watch it!

    I came to this vid via a Pindiy post in a Simplity magazine with a maxi dress on its cover that looked interesting but had no pattern for it in this mag, just an intro and basic project info... disappointing and a loss of 150 Pindiy points, however, I continued to pursue capturing the referenced printed pattern included in the TGBSB book. Clicked on the Amazon link you provided, noting all the purchase options from new to used to Kindle, and clicked on the reviews, and thank goodness I did. One reviewer noted that not all patterns were ready in print but digitally downloadable, so she recommended the more affordable Kindle version since this was a rabbit hole getting deeper and more costly by the clicks...lol!

    Great job Kate. Thank you for this. I like that the book has a mending section at the back. That is new. I've got three of the previous books and found them a bit disappointing for various reasons. For example one book showed how to insert zips 2 or 3 different ways and yet the 1st pattern in the book was a loose top with an exposed zip closure in the back which is not shown how to do in the book. Poor editing frankly and poorly planned out.
    Can't wait for the new Sewing Bee series to start. I have watched every single series starting with the 1st and just loved them all. I think Esme has brought new life and pizazz to the show and Joe did a brilliant job last series. So pleased he will be back again this series.
    During last year's series I had started following The Fold Line and LOVED the series you did the very next day matching patterns to the episode. Brilliant job ladies. You put a lot of work into that with a quick turn around. I so looked forward to your video each week. It made Sewing Bee last 2 evenings for me instead of just one.

    Fun review, and looks great-I will have to get that!!
    Ah yes, the model with the flared trouser's-definitely has that "smoldering" look! LOL! The men's linen jacket is quite nice!!
    The dress with the shirring, and the jumpsuit are fab-making the jumpsuit into a romper is very cool-that is really cute! :+)
    The halter dress is most definitely a classic look-really sexy and sweet!
    WOW! That is one of the nicest "Bomber" jacket patterns I have seen, you're right-those pockets are just perfection!
    Very informative, and is wonderful that they include things like making an apron from jeans, and mending, etc...matte pages are great-I hate it when you're trying to read something and the pages are so glossy you get a glare! ugh.
    I have never seen this program, but am now going to "tune in"!!
    Thank you for sharing! Look forward to your next review and chat time! :+)
    Have a wonderful week ahead!

    Thanks for the review, I bought it the other week, I was a but disappointed that some of the projects are from the last series tbh but there are some nice ones too, I will be making the maxi dress first I think. It does say that it's for confident beginners, so not aimed at people with zero sewing skills but I really think there are some projects in there that could be tackled by beginners, you've got to start somewhere!

I may have to wax the outside of the book. Also it has nothing to do with the makes , so far, in the program. Very odd indeed. Based on What I’ve seen so far, I think this is being mis sold. Always useful to have such a visual review of a book, so thanks for that. Apart from making an apron from old jeans and mending clothes, what is the sustainable angle? it doesn't look as if they're recycling old clothes in the book but perhaps they will in the show itself.

      Rachel by “get this” do you mean the book or the programme “the Great British Sewing Bee”? The GBSB is or was on TH-cam in some countries. I guess the producers took pity on us and allowed it to be put up. I definitely binge watched in Canada, I haven’t checked recently to see if it’s still there.
