I love when you share photos from your inspiration! Please keep sharing, even if you don’t plan on getting around to them anytime soon. I love the simple primitive country cottage look! My dad is a carpenter and 5 years ago for my Christmas gift, he made me a table from 100 year old wood boards. Their neighboring farm in Ohio, was going to be burned down, so my mom salvaged the wood from the old hay wagon sides, and that’s what the table is made from! I absolutely adore it! And those “markings” that you mentioned being in your old beams are in mine too! It’s such a unique marking and I just love it so much! He made the table in 3 separate pieces and brought it all the way to California for me, and assembled it together in my kitchen! Such a precious gift! I also asked him to write in his own handwriting, one of my favorite psalms under the table! It’s precious to see his handwriting underneath! When my husband and I were having our first house built, I wrote Bible verse all over the studs. Just a thought that you might want to write verses on the walls or beams before you install them. Just a sentimental idea to have Bible verses on your walls☺️ thanks for sharing your home with us!

What a great idea to write Bible verses on the studs of a home. Our home is 23 years young and we are adding a sunroom, can’t finish until the prices of wood and supplies goes back down, hoping next year or when NESARA is implemented. Too expensive for us now to finish the sunroom since hubby had to early retire last year because of this plandemic. I’m going to write on our exposed studs in the sunroom too now. I have time now to do that since I lost my small business last year. They will be covered with insulation and ship lap and bead board next year, but for now I’d love to put Bible verses onto some of these boards. My husband will love that idea. I have quite a few favorites. Which one did your Dad use for your table?
When our sunroom is finished, we will have a table built too, but the wood won’t be that old, but it’s going to be plank wood boards and look slightly rustic, but will be pretty smooth and we will use more modern leather looking chairs to go with it because we like them and they are very comfortable. We have 2 in our kitchen at the breakfast bar. They do very well around heavy shedding dogs too. Metal legs and the body of the chairs are thick pleather, looks like leather. We live these chairs. We want a table large enough to seat 10-12. I bet your table is beautiful! How is California doing since the plandemic? I hope you are in an area far away from Hollyweird! It’s so bad there right now from what we’ve heard. We are praying for all of humanity and for God to finish saving the children from trafficking and organ and Adrenochrome harvesting, etc! God has been so good to me and my husband. Blessings of love and light.

Hi Andrea. It’s Eva, the subscriber who suggested using Briwax on your grandparents spoon holder. I’m always too reserved to leave comments, but I’m sure it was God working to enable the ice to be broken because of your upcoming request for advice on carpet. You should know that I was the lead design consultant for almost 12 years and met with clients who had purchased new construction homes through our associate home builders. I helped the families (but sometimes single people or investors as well) select all of the interior finishes for the new home being built at the design center where I worked in Phoenix Arizona. We went over options, answered questions and then had the homeowners make their selections of cabinetry, countertops, backsplashes, hard surface, carpet, interior paint, and....depending on the home builder...sometimes shower surrounds, tub & vanity splashes as well as sinks and plumbing fixtures too. My husband was a carpet installer for 14 years and now works for Shea Homes, so a big part of our lives have been impacted by flooring...especially carpet! I could give you some pointers and carpet 101, gratis ☺️, of course, for my talented sister-in-Christ who always inspires me on her channel with her God-given design instinct 🕊
You can email me at dargento@cox.net and I’ll give you my number if you’re comfortable talking because texting and typing comments would take too long for me to enlighten you with insights regarding carpet along with consulting you on the best flooring approaches to consider so that the look you opt for jives appropriately with a historic English cottage vs. the “trendy” approach. My goal, of course, would be to help you by exploring your choices so that you don’t regret this master flooring decision like you do your downstairs shower surround tile/deco band choice. Project frugality, diy, respect for design’s role in history and timelessness are always my objectives when I try to help friends and family with design consultation, so don’t be intimidated that I’m one of those hotsy totsy, big budget interior designer-types 😇

I'm looking forward to this project! I actually like that your home doesn't have the typical cottage floral and busyness. Your home always reads very peaceful and welcoming to me. I also like the natural woods in your home and the nicely painted surfaces without the chippy look. I think that all adds to things starting to loom like "too much". Of course, to each his own...but I just really like your home. I'm excited to see what you guys do with that space. Also, I really like how the dining room is coming along. I think its great that you let things come together over time. Anyway, enough from me! Hahaha! Have a beautiful day.

You have low A line Cathedral ceilings, they can be low ceilings or high, but when they are angled like that and they are even on both sides it’s A line cathedral ceilings. Vaulted ceilings are uneven, one is regular and the other one that is opposite is vaulted and Angled. I love the beams! I want beams in my kitchen and family room. We can’t have them in the master as we have trey ceilings and in the dining room too that we are changing out next year into a craft/ office studio with a broom / vacuum closet and have an extra skinny pantry installed in this room for bottled water, distilled water and homeopathic supplies and ingredients. I love the thumbnails you’ve found and I love these ideas. I want to do this in the kitchen and repaint our aqua walls with a creamy white and do the same in the hallway and foyer, but go more tan brown in the foyer. We have a ranch almost craftsman style home with a bonus room upstairs. No other rooms upstairs, but I wish I had a small bathroom up there. We won’t add that though as it’s just the two of us and our 2 dogs. Don’t see the need. Not sure what I’m going to turn the upstairs into except maybe a workout area, storage room, add a closet up there too for ho,I day decor, seasonal decor and I want to add another window or 2, it’s pretty dark up there with just one palladium window even though it’s a decent size. I don’t even use it and I’ve been here 10 years. We added on a sunroom that we will sue when completed next year a lot and we will have our coffee bar in there with a larger area for a dining room. The current one we have is too small for family gatherings. Only large enough for 4-6 people. We have 6-8 currently that come for Holidays and get together, cook outs.

Over the years, when I have needed to use carpeting, I have chosen commercial grade. It is very low pile, and almost has a hard finish. It wears and cleans up beyond belief. And, it doesn't shout "carpet" at you. In my current home I have it in two rooms, with all the other rooms in the house in some kind of hard flooring, as in wood floors and tile floors. So, check out the commercial grade carpeting and see what you think. If I can't have hard flooring, it is my next pick.

....A cup of tea, a bit of breakfast and partaking of Pine and Prospect, .....
I love the simplicity of how you envision your rooms, and I only want to caution you on one thing , with the beams... try to not position those over where your head is when sleeping... This is a Feng Shui thing, to not place beams, etc over where you head is where you sleep. I noticed in one of the thumbnails, the beams were " offset " and I like that look. I agree with keeping the ceiling fan, perhaps something that's got white, to sort of " blend in " with some kind of " crystal " but simple, with the crystal part ( or faux crystal) to bring a little " something something " to that one element. Just a thought. 🙂😊." An unexpected touch. "
Hmmmmm. Carpeting. I prefer rugs, but I understand, and there's so many choices. The one thing I know for sure is that you get the very best carpet pad that the budget will allow. ...this is what extends the life of your carpet and makes it feel plush underfoot. ( many years ago, I dated guys that did carpet, one did tile, etc. Lol. I learned a lot. ) Take a nap, Miss Andrea... then have that coffee, lol.
The little one is adorable, loved that part with Dad. So precious! 😊🙏🏻✨️💜

Another option is the lay hard wood around the perimeter of the room and then lay carpet in the middle. Essentially, you're laying a carpet mat and a cut piece of carpet to the size you want in the center "hole". This is nice because it's cheaper to get carpet, and you can change it out (you don't stretch it or tack it down, it's essentially a rug) when you want to change it. That could be a ice compromise for you guys. Also, what about a vintage fan on his side of the bed on the table? That way he gets a fan, but you don't have to have a ceiling fan. Just food for thought.

You can take the lighting 💡 part off the fan and paint the blades white, and then use Rub n Buff on the metal part. I used gold leaf color. That would really minimize the presence of a big bold ceiling fan. I did that with several in my home and they disappear and don’t look like big alien spiders on the ceiling anymore. 😂. I know it’s going to be beautiful when your vision comes to fruition! ☺️☺️

I agree with you. I don't like all the frills and florals of the cottage core style. I also love white/cream with wood. Any wood in the room pops next to white. White and cream are classic colors They are not "farm house." White will never go out of style. Our house was build in early 1990"s and our walls were white. And our house was a new build and was not in the farmhouse style. So I don't think you can go wrong with neutrals. They allow you to seasonally add decor and anything against those white walls will pop and be visually interesting. I love the idea of beams in the room. I think it will up the cozy factor by 1000%.

Love the big plans for your bedroom. May I suggest to find an inexpensive fan that is simple or stream lined. I suggest you not worry about the color too much and focus on the shape you can live with. What I did with mine was to spay paint all the metal parts with appliance white paint, the wood paddles I painted with regular white spray paint. Once reinstalled the white color no longer draws your eye to the fan and allows other things in the room to take center stage. If you can find an already all white fan even better, I did not have a lot of luck within our budget. Yes, I did take all the metal pieces (except the motor itself) apart to spray them. Mine had a lot of functional work to fix a multitude of issues so I had to take it apart to fix it anyway. I just figure I fix it or toss it. So, for about $25 I no longer cringe when I walk into the room.

Hello Andrea ~ the only time I have seen you look tired ( or exhausted ) was sanding your hardwood floors . You always look beautiful and put together!
I LOVE WHITE ROOMS WITH WOOD BEAMS … the perfect patina old wood pieces… yes I drool over that. I have a Board on Pinterest that is just “white rooms w/ hints of wood “. The one picture you showed us with the STONE WALL in the room….LOVE !!! I always say it is my “Welsh Blood” that is speaking ….stone houses, stone walls, old wood, cool days …. I’m in Heaven surrounded by those !
Can’t help with carpeting sorry. We ripped every ounce of it out of this house and brought back my Dad’s incredible hardwood floors from the late 50’s …..I cried and laid down on the floor and made a pretend snow Angel ! My Dad’s floors were exposed again ❤️❤️❤️
I can not wait for this makeover ! So excited and love everything you plan on doing ! Would your husband consider an area rug and not full wall to wall? What about a “ Berber carpet” with a soft touch to it in an off white with hints of the darker color to match the wood beams? Just a thought 🤷‍♀️

I know hardwood floors are every ones go to, but carpet in the bedroom is so cozy on your feet, especially in winter. So beams and carpet and the fan.... then see if you really need anything after living with those decisions. It doesn't all need to be decided on now. Let it evolve and speak to you after the beams.

When you chose carpet the more polyester strands the easier it will release a stain. But the pile needs to be short because polyester also mats down easier. Use "1/2 inch" rebound pad underneath. It lasts longer and is devine to walk on. I worked in the carpet industry that's how I know. Best of luck!

The amount of ait ours moves is better than our old ceiling fan on low has been fine, we live in Maine and have some hotvwerks that require a fan. We plan to install another fandolier in our bedroom since the one in the living room looks great and functions perfectly. Amazin has some affordable options, mine looks like a chandelier with the clear blades nested on top. Best of luck in your search. Love your style and warm personality. Thank you for all your post and allowing us into your home and family❤️👵

We have a cape code, we have wood everywhere. We ended up putting carpet upstairs because it’s so loud when you walk around up there. Especially if teens are there. Our house is over 65 years old and I just love my home. Yea, in my humble opinion, carpet is a good thing in bedrooms. My husband also loves a fan over the bed and carpet in the bedrooms especially now we are getting older.

Hi Andrea, I think your version of English cottage suits your personality so well - sunny and breezy. I live in a farmhouse in France and I never realised before I lived here just how much exposed stone walls and ceiling beams can make you a slave to housework! Spiders LOVE making their webs around beams because their dark colour helps to camouflage them, and then there's the dust. It settles on every stone and all the nooks and crannies in the beams. We're about to move into our own house which we're renovating and I'm going completely the opposite way decor wise - clean lines and nowhere for spiders to hide 😊 Just thought I'd mention about the cons to beams and stone, not to sway you, but just as a little friendly advice 🙂

Andrea...your style always speaks to me...white..beams...what is not to LOVE!..Can't wait to see everything come together in master bedroom...
I have a suggestion for your flooring since you only have plywood under the carpet..
We have an 1840's home..been renovating it for 3 years...we are not even moved in YET... Can you believe that..lol...
I don't remember the species of wood flooring you refinished in your downstairs..but we used pine..and distressed it..made saw blade marks on it..beat it up..stained it and face nailed it..( little tip..spray painted the nail heads brown) that go in the pneumatic nailer..
My husband and I are doing everything...
We have original beams in our home..it is a timber home..so we gutted and vaulted ceilings to expose them..in the back half of the house..and for the colonial front of the house the ceilings were sagging..so we added pine beams from Menards to go across for support..hid all our crazy new electrical under the wood ship lap between the beams...
And everything is painted white..including the trim..the pine stained flooring we made..is installed..
And of course a FREE CHANDELIER..on a dimmer..to top it off!!! Why not..lol
I have some phone videos I could send you if your dad needs any helpful hints..( my husband is a Carpenter) if you go the wood flooring route...it just ties the whole look together..
Ordered Lisa's course..hoping to launch our blog and you tube channel soon...we definitely have plenty of photos and video...
    Sorry for rambling on..
    Have a BLESSED DAY TODAY!

We had the same discussion and compromise on putting carpet in our bedroom. Instead of a plush carpet we decided on a *solid color but patterned texture commercial looking carpet. It has a more modern feel but blends so well with our style that includes some rustic french antiques. When we picked our carpet we chose one with a stainmaster fiber. We both love it and wouldn’t change our decision even after 8 years

Love your inspiration photos. Sisal carpet would be a great neutral with texture. I asked for samples of wall-to-wall carpet that resembled sisal. I also am not a fan of the look of a fan, ha! However, they are a necessity in the summer. I chose white ceiling fans so they disappear into the white of the ceiling. Can't wait to see your reveal; it's going to be lovely!

Your simplistic cottage home is definitely beautiful.
I personally love it, I love the idea of beams in the bedroom. You could even go and put the stone like your kitchen wall above the board-n-batten for an additional piece in the focal wall.
I definitely think a low pile cream for your floors/ w the area rug you have would be beautiful (the blues and creamy colors together would be perfect.
I cant wait to see what you have planned come to life. The side tables you redid are a perfect size and color to go with the beams.
Personally, I found one almost like yours and did a natural look for our room. Its so cozy and perfectly calming in a space.
