  • I am so excited about this cottage dining room tour! Lilac season is one of my favorites, and decorating my house with them each spring is so much fun! I love how my cottage dining room has come together since refinishing our floors and we may or may not have brought the corner cupboard back as well!
In this cottage dining room video, I also share a brand I am really excited about, Simply Earth. Simply Earth is an essential oil company and since I strive to have a natural home, they are a perfect fit for me. Not only do they sell all kinds of essential oils, they also have an amazing subscription box. The subscription box includes six recipes and I was able to share two of them with you in this video!
I encourage you to visit their site and shop around. Not only are their oils affordable, but 13% of their profits are donated to end human trafficking! If you use code PANDPHOMEFREE first time subscribers will receive a free $40 gift card with the purchase of their first box.

Great choices on everything in the dining room! I love a mixture of rustic and clean as well so I agree with bringing the corner cupboard back. The side board may be fun to use in the laundry. The wicker chairs are gorgeous!

Where you want to put an antique oil painting bring back the small night stand on that wall the one that used to be where the antique shopping basket is now, leave the vent open for your blessed husband’s joy and I too am glad you brought back the corner cabinet it fits that space well

Pine hutch is beautiful....lots better than corner hutch
NO, to a thin table....you need the room with growing boys, and I LOVE the vent showing...it clarifies, once again, the age and charm of your home...

I think you guys could absolutely DIY a custom console table for that wall, it would be pretty straightforward and you could finish the wood to match some of the other tones in the house. I’m absolutely in love with the wicker chairs, so timeless and beautifully weathered! 💙

I LOVE that you listen to your own intuition. I too have been living with a few pieces in my house & I decided that I just did not like them in that spot. Moved them to another room & am so much happier. I call it auditioning pieces. Your corner cabinet is wonderful & I so love the wicker chairs. That added the softness & comfort look. The rug looks really good & I just love the lilacs. Thanks for sharing.

The dining room is beautiful, Andrea! The varied textures and soft colors are perfect. I think the corner hutch is a standout, yet allowing ample room on either side of the table for walking by, and serving. A soothing picture on the larger space of wall would certainly add to it all; I would personally stay away from word-type art, although some antique word signs, as you mentioned, may work very well. What a lovely, lovely home you (and your husband) have created !

Idea for wall that would not block heat register: Find some kind of metal legs that can be painted black, perhaps the legs from an old treadle sewing machine, and use boards across the top for a long and narrow surface. It would repeat the wood tone and the black, be quite minimal, but give you a serving surface for buffets, or decor. Some treadle machines have very simple cast iron bases. Some are ornate. Seek out the simple. It could be customized to the exact size you want.

Hi Andrea.... I like that you trust your " Inner Interior Design Compass " .... it's about the " Feng Shui ", as well. If something feels " off " to you, then it's probably unbalanced. I discovered this, not even knowing what Feng Shui was at the time, in 1992 ....and I would move things around and then when I finally felt like " yes, that feels comfortable. that feels right " ... then I would know it worked....; that same year I would discover Feng Shui and that is what I had been doing..... that was my intuitional compass directing my design ideas and choices without " even really knowing it" ( the " why " ) so it makes sense to me ,what you spoke of in regards to you like a certain " balance " of rustic, and not rustic. Lol. So it does mean trusting that ,within yourself. Things look beautiful! I was thinking...that space needs a big, beautiful Mirror to reflect the Dining Table, the natural light . Yes, a " Not too big ( depth wise ) console table with a few drawers , and a shelf underneath ( for baskets/ storage?)....I agree .
The one thing I have discovered about wax and I very seldom use it unless it's the gilding wax or the white wax to highlight something ... I don't use the wax anymore , havent for years. ....because I found that you have to go back and do it every couple of months... it will not " stand up to wear " , I don't care what they say. Lol. Anytime I use chalk paint I use a satin sealer over it and that's it and it lasts .

You live in your home night and day and want it to feel right and bring you joy and when something is “off” it can drive you crazy! So, I love that the corner cabinet's back. It looks great right away becuz not much styling was needed to help it fit in. But it WAS so lovely anyway. You only had to put the China back inside & that seemed to be that. The pine cabinet could do beautifully at some point just as well but I think it needed more styling but you hadn't really found those items yet so it's another look waiting to be developed & that's ok. Think how exciting it will be when you decide to pull it out again! The carpet also looks good. If it were me though I'd be worried about how it would wear. One, becuz of the new taupe chairs you just bought. I'm just wondering if their bottoms may scratch up the top of the carpet. And then secondly, I would be concerned regarding how it could be cleaned. It's light in color & I have a feeling it's going to get dirty especially with all your little boys. So lastly, your new taupe chairs. I love it that you brought those back too. They add such a lovely texture to the space & springs up the whole area which is just what you need in the spring time. I think everything you've added & re-added are wonderful changes. It all looks beautiful here from Seattle/WA! Good job!

I believe if you have leftover planks from the beautiful table your husband made. He could make a console table with 1 shelf underneath. Long and skinny to go the length of the shelves above. Yes, you are right about something missing on that wall. The shelves need a piece of furniture under it to ground them. My 2 cents worth. God bless your family and take the time you need to make your home yours. Good luck.

The corner cabinet look WAY better. Rug is a nice addition. Personally I would have chosen a rug with some pattern and subdued colour, but realize that neutrals are your thing. Still would like to see your grandfather's chest back and the mirror below the wainscotting gone. Wicker chairs have a lighter look than the previous ones. Your work in progress is going well. Oh if only lilacs bloomed longer!

Andrea, oh my goodness, I just really love your style. I love a well thought out space and how you fill your home with items you just love. Those chairs and rug are all perfect together. A small console table will definitely complete the space. Your home isn't trendy its very classic and your pieces are definitely timeless. Smiles

Under the mirror, have you considered a long, floating shelf? You can also use pretty corbels on either end. I love to install shelves like they were just narrow console tables. Inexpensive, narrow, open beneath, surface to decorate/serve on - hits all the needs.

Andrea, continue playing with your home. That’s wonderful. I love the rug. All the furniture, hutch & corner hutch are all beautiful & they should be where they look right for you & make you happy when you look at it.
Those rattan chairs are gorgeous. I love, love, love those flowers. And yes, I agree that a sideboard cabinet, or buffet cabinet would look really nice.

Hi Andrea ~ LOVE your Corner Hutch back in the space. We all have visions in our head and once we live with the vision for a couple of weeks or months, if it is not working, it is not working period. Nothing wrong with that! The pine hutch is beautiful, just not right for the space. I’m sure you will find a spot that is right!
LOVE THOSE CHAIRS and they are Sold Out ! LOL!!! The rug also is very inviting in the space. You are so right about shedding Jute ! I have placemat I adore, but they shed awful! So glad I only have 4 of them, I use them under things and not to eat off of !
I think your idea of a slim table would be great under your mirrored window!
Look forward to seeing what you do more to this space ! Our Lilacs are past now! I wish they would last for a month! Love them!
    Have a blessed week ! 💛🙏💛

Good morning! I agree, the corner hutch fits perfectly with your dining space. The other cabinet was competing with the table since they were both natural wood. Now, the table can be the focal point. Love the rug and wicker chairs! I like your idea of a narrow sideboard for underneath the window frame mirror. I have one with drawers on top, then it's open all the way to the floor but also has a bottom shelf for styling. Something like that would allow for heat from your vent. Thanks for sharing an update! It's coming together and yes, it does take time! ❤

Hi Andrea, for years I could not find anything that I really liked for one of my dinning room walls. Just before covid, I asked my youngest son (who has the drawing gift but had lost interest in it years earlier) if he could paint something for me? I was hoping he would pick it up again, and I could have something of his for a long time to come. Turned out at the same time his job transferred him to another state; and that was that. Covid shutdown came along, and for the first time I decided no matter how terrible I had been at drawing before, I was now going to give it all I had- I did, and well I was totally surprised at what I was able to do! I wound up drawing 9 different, but same colors acrylic paintings, and it has been the answer to my empty dining wall. All that to say: PUT UP YOUR OWN DRAWINGS ON THE WALLS; YOU DRAW BEAUTIFULLY! Everything looks great. Personally I would have left the round mirror you had on the dinning room wall. I always thought it looked really nice there. Blessing to you and your sweet family :)

Andrea I absolutely love everything you have done including bringing back your corner hutch. The look you have goin on in the dining room is so pretty, warm, clean ,classic cottage and not fussy. I understand the need for a slim buffet style table for under the window mirror, in my minds eye I am on the fence, only, because I feel like everything that is currently in the room now is perfect, they each are a stand alone piece and do not compete with each other I see perfect balance along with enough comfortable space for moving around, but like myself I too have to reach that place in my mind that sings perfection and total satisfaction before I can totally be at rest….. Blessings..

Andrea…oh my, be still my heart! It’s ALL so absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Your eye is so acutely keen to design and the aesthetics to a space! I’m a neutral lover, too, and feel that texture and wood tones (no orangey colors) are what carry a room’s overall aesthetic as well. The corner cabinet is definitely a homerun and I was secretly hoping it would return☺️ Love the color of it with the wood tone of the dining table and your trim; do you happen to know the paint color of the corner hutch??
The neutral rug adds even more texture and warmth and I’m in love with that for your space, too!
As for the walls, how about 3 vertically placed ironstone platters or plates or 3 Transferware platters/plates beside the narrow wall by the corner hutch? That would provide dimension and also carry the theme of English Cottage with your design aesthetic. A small “gallery” of platters in a grouping of 5 would also look awesome on the previous basket wall, too. A primitive DIY narrow rustic wood console would look fabulous on the window frame side and still permit the vent to “breathe”; also, speaking of that wall side…perhaps, from this angle, the window frame be moved above the trim? Then 3 ironstone plates in a triangular fashion above it might blend with your shelves of ironstone and create that ‘imaginary triangle’ on that wall as designers relay in design with the imaginary apex of the triangle at the top. The wicker chairs are PERFECTION!!! Saving to Pinterest as I’ve had this style on my wish list but glad you found an economical set for yourself (and us!☺️) Either way, it will all be quite lovely with your touches, and can’t wait to see your final choices! Hugs from Illinois ~ Gloria 🤗

Everything looks so pretty! Especially the lilacs! I think the exposed antique vent cover is beautiful but it could go either way with a narrow hutch in that space too. I love the wicker chairs! They are a gorgeous color and design

A room will speak to you (so to speak lol 😂). When something is off in a room you will know that something is off. Sometimes takes time to get it right. I’m a designer and go through the same thing. Love the corner cabinet back in the space. Love the hutch too, maybe downstairs? I think your husband is right… probably need to strip/sand the Dining chairs. If your husband is like mine, her prefers minimal decor. My husband will say, “I like having a bare wall.” Lol Patience is key! Your husband seems to be amazing! 😉It took 8 years to get my home in North Carolina exactly the way I wanted it. Every time I walked in the door, my home made me smile with content. I thoroughly got to enjoy it that way for 4 years then we moved back to KY so here we go again lol. It’s a process that I honestly enjoy taking my time with. It gives me something to look forward to! Love your home! I love the joy and excitement in your voice in this video! There’s a spark there! Love the gorgeous lilacs! God Bless! 💜
