  • Episode 8 of the DIY Tutorials about PASSIVE PATCH PALS with the “LINE”. a MODULAR to LINE level OUTPUT with a passive voltage divider circuit. It is meant to be used with an audio interface with high-Z inputs. enjoy, or not…
    Episode 8 de ma série sur les PASSIVE PATCH PALS avec le “LINE”. Un OUTPUT passif de niveau modulaire vers niveau ligne pour attaquer des interfaces audio “high-Z”.

    The actual attenuation ratio will depend on the output impedance of the module, and input impedance of the mixer/audio interface. Most modules have R_out = 1k, but some have R_out = 0k and use a different output protection scheme (or no output protection at all).
    meant to be used with an audio interface with high-Z inputs
    Modular level is 10X Line level, so we have to divide the input Modular level by 10 to get an output Line level
    VOLTAGE DIVIDER FORMULA :
    V2 = R2 / (R1+R2) * V1
    if IN = V1 (Modular level) and OUT=V2 (Line level)
    if V1 is 5V pp, get a value of 9.1K for R1 & 1K for R2 to get 0.495V pp for V2

    I made this stereo pretty easily and it was my first way to record. Dawless for 50 cents.

    Beautiful!! Thanks for doing this! Is it possible to show a diy for line level audio input to eurorack? It would need to incorporate a transformer i suppose?

      Modular level being 10x line level, you need an active opamp amplifier to do that, so it can’t be passive...
