    Analysing low elo replays would be great as well - pointing out common mistakes etc.

    Super awesome tutorial series Stoney! Well done sir. Your work on elevating everyone's understanding of the game is super appreciated! THANK YOU!

    Thank you for the series!
    First of all, I appreciate the live commentary during live games. The first 2 games were quite easy for you with many mistakes form the opponents giving you more time for comments.
    The last game was way more even and intense and it could be felt. It left a bit less time to comment on the choices made but the analysis of the board and choices and missteps on both sides was crucial and I believe it is what makes these videos very valuable.
    Thank you from a player who is in exactly that 1600-1800 range. 😊

      Thank you! I'm a firm believer that the best way to learn is by doing. While understanding concepts is important to start with, real learning happens when these concepts are applied at the right time and in the right context.

    20:20 super supply would start paying off on round 8, spoiler game ended on round 7, was there a reason to expect the game to go longer?

      Yes. In this case, it was a hedge against a potential comeback. My opponent's HP was 2666, making it difficult for me to finish him in one turn. My HP was full, so there's no downside of losing some tempo if I was already winning. My board was vulnerable to an air counter, so I figured if he does decide to hard counter me, I would at least be a better position 3 turns down the line.

    You talked about momentum a lot, but haven't mentioned the usage of missiles and shields to gain some momentum.
    For example: One of the things I love to do when I see exposed fire badgers is to missile them. A single missile will bring level 1 badgers to really low health, making them practically free exp. Sledgehammers die to a missile so obviously they don't count towards exp, but sometimes it is beneficial to kill an exposed squad or two so they don't get exp that round and your units have a better likelihood of winning the round and gaining exp for a level advantage. Especially if they can get tower. And of course, there's the usage of shields to absorb a lot of early damage for your long range units, but they're 100 credits and require a different skill set typically better for standard players.
    Sometimes little temporary advantages like those can lead to long term advantages, especially if it's a mirror match and especially against certain units you'd struggle with otherwise.

      Good tip. I was thinking of doing another video on devices and timing of those

    I've gotten to about 1700 MMR but the biggest problem I have is vs asymmetrical aggro with good tempo (sometimes the spells just hose you). I feel like the 1800 MMR group is basically "learn to win by aggro b/c standard is less efficient." Could you maybe make a video about regaining tempo when you are behind? Maybe you could focus on starting from standard and moving to counter aggro. In almost all the games you showed in this video you have momentum and you keep it which leads to a landslide victory. The only game you struggled was when you picked mustang/crawler which is a "very bad" open combination according to one of the best players of this game.

    Do you have any broad guidelines regarding when to upgrade units?

    • @stoneymechabellum
      @stoneymechabellum  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't upgrade chaff unless you have a veeery good reason (Eg winning a certain mirror fight)
      Upgrade your carry if they reach breakpoints (Eg lvl 2 Marksman one shot lvl 1 tanks) or if you need more hp (Eg. Lvl a fort)

      @@stoneymechabellum A document listing lots of breakpoints would be super helpful, most players don't know most breakpoints exist

      If a unit is usually 1-shotting its targets or getting overkilled, then upgrade doesn't do anything. However if it's dealing and receiving multiple hits per kill, then upgrade is extremely valuable

      @stoneymechabellum They are a fun unit. I've been having success with Saber/Raiden but then again I'm only a 1400mmr player. Movement speed on the Sabers in particular seems to be performing REALLY well.
      My biggest weakness is pivoting out of a bad starting position.

    I'm at 1400 mmr, the amount of players going aggro is making me not want to play the game. I load in, pick a good specialist and starting units, deploy standard and of course, it's one corner aggro and I know I'm going to be in for 7 rounds of defending against mindgames and cheese and surprise unit drops that try to hit the towers. I actually think I get a standard vs standard game maybe 1 in 10 at this point. It's killing my enjoyment because I don't find aggro or defending against aggro as fun at all.

    • @stoneymechabellum
      @stoneymechabellum  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I hear ya, it's a very different mindset but part of the game mechanics. Unfortunately there isn't a rule that forces players to just play "standard" and everyone can use every part of the board to their liking. Keep an eye out for a defense-based tutorial in the near future.
