      Yeah I live in independence and my property taxes went up 1k. It’s pretty insane how corrupt it is. I just saw also frank white is trying to get rid of the lawsuit against Jackson county

      He’s trying to get them to drop the current lawsuit that waives the property tax increase for last year because of how much funding the school districts would lose.

    I moved to Manhattan Ks last year. I love going to KC and it’s by far my favorite big city in the US. It checks so many boxes from entertainment, sports, history, great nightlife and yes, world’s greatest bbq. Every big city has its problems but you really can feel civic pride when you go there.

    Taxes are so corrupt here that the state tax commission is suing Jackson County. The politicians taxes on their own houses don’t go up much but their surrounding neighbors went up exponentially. I live outside of KC but still in Jackson county and my property taxes have doubled in the four years I’ve owned my house. My property value went up almost 100k in that time, but I know if I sold tomorrow I wouldn’t get that kind of money for it.

    I moved here just over a year ago. For me, the highway system sucks and everybody is in a rush and drives fairly reckless. Aside from that, I really like KC. We got some nice golf courses

      What highway system did you come from? Traffic here is so much better compared to almost everywhere else!

      @@TF-Times I typically drive hwy 71. It has stoplights and people always cut me off. However, I will say I've never lived this close to a big city or had to go downtown on a daily basis until i got a job here. A coworker of mine is from the Seattle area and she told me it was much worse out there. So I guess It's all relative to our personal experiences.
      However, I am originally frontage Saint Louis area

    We really, REALLY need rail-based mass transit here. We need our own version of DART, BART, METRA, etc. The street car is nice, but everyone has those AND they are subject to traffic issues.

    That's a 1% "EARNINGS" tax...If you live OR work in KCMO you pay 1% on your earnings. If you live AND work outside KCMO it doesn't apply.

      So whats the total tax if you work and live in kcmo or kcks? Im from houston tx area. And stationed at fort riley. We are thinking of moving to kcmo.

    Looks like the city is spit between two states. Which are you talking about?

    • @movingtokc
      @movingtokc  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s not that it’s split by two states. It’s that there’s a Kansas City Kansas and a Kansas City Missouri. Much of what I discuss applies to both, but when I talk about city services it’s mainly KCMO that I’m referencing. I did a video a few weeks back about the differences of both sides of the state line if you’re interested.

    Where the F were those trash bins when i lived there?! Two bags? Yeh n had to put out morning of or else racoons would tear your bags apart leaving a massive mess. Trash tags i had to buy from grocery store to allow my household to put out additional bags. That part SUCKED! Otherwise KC was fine. Traffic was great for a metro area. In STL now and its awful. Would never talk any of my friends out of moving to KC. Great place!

    • @movingtokc
      @movingtokc  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      KCMO. Although you won’t find much for that price in Midtown/Brookside/Waldo. There are a lot of homes priced sub $100k on the East side that skew the numbers.

      Small town USA is still where it's at. Anything in the city or surrounding suburbs is going to be more expensive. Even the ghetto in the city is more expensive than small/rural towns.
      Edit: In my rural town you can get a place for 100k. A nice place for double that.. and there's a few factories in town that are just about always hiring.

    I moved to Davies County from the US Virgin Islands after my wife passed. Ignore technology and one would think they were transported to the 70s. Cost of living is very affordable, kids ride bicycles, no wokeness, excellent schools etc. People find peace here.
