Agree with you on these points. 👍🏻 Lived there over thirty years, recently moved, but might move back some day. Definitely need a car to zip around town, plenty of places to eat and shop. I always felt safe and rarely if ever locked my car doors. Taxes are high, but not as much as I pay now in Illinois.

Kansas City has a BACKWARD social culture that is one of the worst of any larger metro area anywhere in the country. It has a lot to do with the fact that things are ridiculously spread out and the denser portion of Downtown is mostly dead all of the time. Then you throw in the fact that people settle down or get married at younger than average ages in Flyover County, making it a TERRIBLE place for single people that are between 20-40 years old. There's most of your answers!

I really hope theres a continued push to make more and more affordable housing outside the main city. I would love to consder having a kid with my husband but even our one bedroom apartment takes most of our money we could save with. I suppose in that vein, even though I know it would piss a lot of people off, a rise in minimum wage here would help tremendously and actually encourage us to spend on what's local instead of whats the cheapest(or not spending at all). At this point, having a kid would be the worst financial decision to make for us, not to mention the kid would suffer for that. I assume most would agree if thats the case for many people, then something needs to be done to remedy that. Either way, I appreciate the work you put into this video.

Coming from a different country I cannot understand why homes are designed only at the front. Walk around your neighborhood and look around. Sides of the houses lack any design, what you will see is likely flat walls with randomly placed windows. In most cases that “lack” of design/architecture touch extends to the back of the house, where likely people spend most time. So in a nutshell homes are build for first impression and not for people that live there to appreciate. Just an observation of an outsider. Lastly to add to that, houses are built of sticks and paper, basically how sheds are build outside of US. Something to think about ;)

    • @movingtokc

The main problems here for me as just a normal poor guy working in a warehouse making 23$ per hour. 1. Its super easy to get jobs, BUT even with a good paying job its hard to find an affordable place to live. 1 bedroom apartment rent is over 1000$ and mortages are around 250k on Zillow atleast. Even 23$ an hour has me living check to check with zero savings and barely able to keep my bank account positive. And 2. Almost every stoplight intersection in the city has a couple homeless people begging for money and yelling at cars that drive by....most of which being meth heads cause we have multiple meth capital sub-cites within KC. So basically its hard to afford a home of any kind unless ur a doctor, lawyer, tech guy, etc that makes big time money. If ur a normal lower middle class peasent u are screwed

I used to say "I want to move out of KC." Now.. I travel everywhere and I've found that KC is a great place to live. Like really great..
