I also got remission. 2 years ago I cut carbs (sugar, fructose, starch) nearly to zero and I reversed prediabetes (A1C from 6.2 to 5.6) within 3 months, without taking any meds. Now, I lost 25% of body mass (A1C now 5.2).
I remitted my diabetes with low carb diet. It's now been 23 months. It's great not feeling hungry all the time and constantly thinking about food. I've lost more than 20% of my starting weight without trying. Clothes that had been tight on me now swim on me. Thankfully I've managed to alter some of them to fit and also been very blessed to find nice tops/blouses at op shops. It's funny hanging up my washing now because the clothes look so small compared to what they were. It's been strange going into shops to buy trousers and looking at the normal sized racks instead of the larger ladies' clothing.
I'm never hungry since I went zero carb....meat and fats keepe full on omad. Was huge carb addict 3 yrs ago with a1c 10.5 , now in last 2 yrs between 5.1-5.3. Can watch coworkers eat donuts at meetings and even slightly tempted.
@@Carnivore1959 That's really good. It's now been just over 2.5 years on low carb for me and I'm eating a lot less veggies and steering clear of seed oils now. Watching other people eat fruit and processed foods doesn't bother me. Although last year someone had brought in a container of cheap supermarket shortbread (which I know from previous experience that they don't really taste very nice) and it didn't bother me. Then I went into work one day and there was only one sitting in the container on the table and it was calling out to me. I was able to resist the urge to eat it but I thought it was very funny how having the whole container of them didn't affect me but as soon as there was only one left I felt the need to eat it.
Dr Unwin has far more successes than he knows. I am another one who is in remission thanks to his videos. I ignored NHS advice and followed a low carb diet. The biggest thing for me was cutting out starches ie pasta rice bread and potatoes.
Anyone who thinks being "hangry" (so hungry that it makes you angry) is normal will learn otherwise when they stop cramming carbs into their mouth every day. I haven't felt hangry in almost 8 years.
I have lost 100 lbs as of yesterday. It has taken me since September 2021. I started keto for year. Then, as of January this year, I started on/off carnivore. Within the last few weeks, I have been just carnivore, and the plateu has broken! I plan on getting down to 170. That is my goal weight. I started at 286, and now I am 186 lbs. I would love to get back to eating a balanced whole food diet sometime. Although eating this way, I have no inflammation....
Well done for doing that, you've made an effort for your health so I hope you are enjoying all the benefits of normal weight, much better future health and easier clothes and all that stuff. Good job dude
65 years women, have been vegetarian for many years and the last 5 years my fasting glucose was between 95 - 110. I have done intermediate fasting for 16 hrs, exercise and relatively eating healthy. I was overweight about 40 lb. 3 months ago cut my carb brutally, fasting 20 hrs, exercising 1.5 hr per day after 2 months my glucose did not change or slightly getting worse (increased 5 to 10). Last month I become vegan, no oil, no carb no process food, exercise, fasting and my glucose getting worst, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am is about 130 and this is not don phenomenon. Any advise greatly appreciated. Got to an endocrinologist, was useless. He told me go and do what you are doing and if you do not get better after six month you can start medication. After 2 months my A1C was 6, C peptide was 2.1. Lost 25 lb in 3 months.
What is the expected progression in the reversal of diabetes? How low can we expect HBA1c to go? Over what duration? For a given regimen (low carb, intermittent fasting), does it plateau and not drop beyond a point? Practising a mix of low carb and intermittent fasting for over two years now. Have been able to taper down and eliminate meds; BMI 20.3, Fat% 6.9%. HBA1c came down from 7.7 to 6.2. Have not been able to drop it further. Have I reached the limit of where I can be? How do I know? Can I do something different to take HBA1c down further?
@@jamesgordon8867 Yes, I believe the WHO or NICE or someone has forced Dr Unwin to with draw his chart showing the teaspoons of sugar equivalent of common foods
An HbA1C of 5.3 is in the normal range. Anything above a 5.7 is considered pre-diabetes. Not sure why your dr isn't celebrating instead of pushing Metformin. That range should be listed on your blood work papers. You can point that out to your Dr. I have to do this all the time.

They do actually, via hba1c. When it comes within certain ranges they then diagnose pre diabetes or diabetes. What they SHOULD be doing however, is testing Insulin which will be elevated long before hba1c shows a problem.
Conference was great. So glad PHC is making the content available. And of course Dr David Unwin was wonderful, as always.

Dr. Unwin is awesome!
Thank you David, you were wonderful as usual. You've been missed, good to see you again.
Great doctor, real doctor!
I wish Dr unwin were my Doctor! Mine is still telling me to eat a low-cholesterol diet *eye roll* (I'm not, low carb all the way)
Most doctors in US they tell you to eat lots of fruits and veggies . Low fat diet , totally wrong !

If your physician does not reflect the 'health' state you want for yourself, find a new GP. Dr. Unwin walks his own talk.

Why is anyone not discussing negative aspects of low carb diet or keto diet over many years of dieting?
Because there aren’t any negative aspects to discuss…
They didn't say what Ian's LDL was.
@@rmc3669 LDL not bad as such. It’s how much APO B is in the LDL - that is the concern. Check out Dr Paul Mason on Low Carb Down Under.
By cutting out highly processed food and all sugar will only improve your health.. meds won't..
