To be fair, the unique version of Herc the jerk is called "The Ascetic", so that's either a hilarious coincidence or an intended thing. Either way, iconic 💅
I already played a Herc run with the heart of the ascetic (and deceased heart, hilarious run) and I lost life regularly as intended. I can only imagine that the combination of heart+dark ability disease+ antique made the games code go "yeah whatever, you do you Beelzieboi" 😂
Good confirmation that he's not just immune to it baseline. Must be the effects together
It's a glitch with picking up, dropping and re-picking an item, the same thing happens with the power skull hp axe, you lose the hp buff from it, same thing with heart, it's a dead item.
I feel the problem with Heart of the Ascetic is genuinely a glitch from picking stuff up quickly. Either that or it genuinely is because the unique skull is called "The Ascetic" and as an easter egg they made it not deal damage

Isn't the first form of the Herakles skull called "Ascetic"?
It could possibly explain why the heart doesn't drain life, its *his* heart.
EDIT: So I don't know exactly what happened but if it is the Herakles skull then the unique form doesn't have that property. This might need further testing.

gotta say, having this double same skull run is actually something I think will be really enjoyable
another thing is for example, having all DLC Skulls and Their individual specific items locked and only the last 4 spaces for builds
Hercules is absolutely criminal with low cooldowns, and two of 'im is absolutely beautiful! It was nice seeing them mix in an upgraded Bone of Mana effect for that one, too! Definitely nice to see more Skul again, so I'm looking forward to what comes next!
As always, though, best wishes to whoever's reading this, but make sure your bones are nice and moist at all times - it'd be quite terrible if they weren't (and this includes your teeth)!

One of the greatest things in the dlc is the witch upgrade in the end. It really makes you try different inscriptions and things like treasure are just insanely funny...

Just seeing raw power from Hercules (The absolute) skull is a marvel to see every day, again i do hope they can give a choose your skull regardless of rarity after beating Alexander in the future
If we're doing themed runs, then you GOTTA do a Double King run now that we have two king skulls. Other options include (but are not limited to!):

I like the idea that Heracles in the skul universe is a wrestler.
The man wrestled and choked Nemean Lion to death (because the beast's hide was impervious to all kinds of weapon). He also overpowered the Amazoness Queen.
Of course he's a wrestler ;)

But honestly, I think my biggest issue with DM9/10 secret boss is that his damage is actually ridiculous. You can avoid him, but the literal one mistake can cost you so much health. One of speed form's attacks can do 93 damage, his power form's stun attack did literally 40+90 damage (no omens, using a power skull). I think the damage numbers are just incredibly out of whack. You could be breezing through DM10 with a good build, but one mistake against secret boss is just one life gone. It's dodgeable, for sure, but eventually one can make mistakes and get hit even once, and it just costs you so much. You literally have to play it perfectly in order to win, and it's only because at higher DM levels his damage is just too high, such that you can't afford to make mistakes.
I love DM8-10 because the introduction of new enemies while changing enemy rooms was really cool, but the sheer damage numbers that enemies output just gets absurd. I at least got used to everyone doing dumb damage in DM10, but when the secret boss' basic combo does 40 total, that's just crazy.
Don't get me wrong, I love the secret boss, but I think the best way to have fun is definitely gonna be DM8 or 9 against him, DM10 skyrockets his damage to simply too high to actually be enjoyable. I beat him like twice only on DM10 after watching you video on him, every other time I've died to one mistake and then destroys an entire life with a few hits.

The game has become the absolute with the latest update! Now I’m waiting for skul online (or mods PLZZZ) to share the joy with someone (ofc I don’t have friends, anyway I’d be okay to complete the game with someone else) playing on a difficulty that scales depending on numbers of players in a session (like in monster Hunter) because double the fun!!!

Aaaall roight. The Ascetic with a lot of Life, I HAVE to try it.
Two thoughts I've come up with.
1st: Against Dark Skul, do NOT clutter your screen with visual effects, you will lose sight of it and he will combo you. Trust me, I tried and died.
Things like Lich's Deathtrap and Frosty's Ice Field or other will be an hindrance, if spammed.
Go to the fight while having a plan:
- get 1000% minimum on dmg
- get chase or high movement speed (optional for some skulls)
- get skills that have little area clutter
- BE PATIENT. It is not a 100 meters, it is a marathon.
2nd: I think it is weird. When you fight Alexander after the Manatech God fight, you face an old and broken man with easy to telegraph attack and few hp.
Well, if you let him alive for long enough you will discover that he has AN ENTIRE MOVESET of different attacks. Like webs of rays, pillars of darkness and half-screen wide explosions.
Like, who is supposed to fight all of this after EVERYTHING else?
I wonder if it is another secret fight you unlock by keeping him alive long enough, or maybe they gave it more attacks for when there is a Low damage High defense run.
To be clear, I've cleared Diff 10 Dark Skul included. If you have done similar, please tell me more.

I think Herc's unique Invulnerability interrupted the HP drain from the Heart, and just stopped it from working entirely.

Maybe there's a Hidden interaction with Heart of the Ascetic and the Ascetic? Only guess I've got. But it would make sense if the heart is too powerful for other skulls, yet functions differently on Herc.

Pretty sure you dropped the heart before it drained your life to half, and that messed up the flags that say "keep draining life until you're at 50% life"
Seeing Skul turn into WWE is certainly a spectical to behold, you have become the creme of the crop.
Though there are a few things I'm curious about not, mainly the super inscriptions of sin, masterpiece, and omen.
I feel I'd be terrifying if "shadow skul"(?) Had a mechanic where he basically copies the players build to an extent like your using a speed skull well now he's using the speed skul moveset in his fight or even worse more literally copies your build using a exact copy of your items against him
I'm just glad he's just a jack of trades that's very good at everything

I have no idea why the Heart of the Ascetic wasn't draining your life
But my assumption is
The damage reduction from 4 Antique makes the damage dealt by the Heart go low enough that it rounds down to 0, so the game doesn't register the HP drain.
Can you do themed runs with the mythical skulls? Start out with all their special items and go from there
I just beat dark skul at difficulty 7. It was a powerful dash build with pike and I almost died. Apparently near constant s doesn't guarantee a win.
No hit run? Mmm, not a good idea.

What i think would be hype is being capable on looping runs so you can fight tankier and mightier enemies and taking more item slots for scaling juiceness
about the Heart of the Ascetic, maybe a bug because the mods or the curse (life reduction)
I’m going to throw out a wild guess here and say that the damage resist from max antique is somehow negating the health drain from heart of the ascetic
I tried paying attention to your health to see if it would start drain when you went below 70% but I don’t think it happened a single time since you took heart of the ascetic so there’s no evidence to prove or disprove the theory
Also I really like Heracles bringing out the wheel because it’s a bit reminiscent of bringing a folding chair into the wring and I find it thematically pleasing
Did you ever make a tierlist of the Dark Abilities or Curses? With the buffs and changes to them in the update, it could be worthwhile
Sounds like you need to make a whole video dedicated to finding odd bugs / quirks / interactions with the dark abilities . Starting with heart and disease

Kinda curious what you could do on Base Skul with that Herc hand that stuns every 3 skill uses, stun inscriptions, and the curse that refreshes statuses.
Watchers and commenters be nice! Everyone knows that Demon Lords can't count to 10. That's why there's only 9 circles of Hell. Very sad, I know, but you shouldn't bully poor Beelz for it.
Jokes aside, Hercules is definitely the best DLC skull. He's the most fun, and definitely feels like the most powerful. The I-Frames, the damage, the fact he has a good selection of skills, and a good meter mechanic for boosting his damage. He's just amazing across the board.
On to the Heart of the Ascetic issue, my BEST GUESS is that it DOES have something to do with Antique 4. The damage reduction from that might be reducing the 'damage' from the Heart of the Ascetic health drain to a point that the game rounds it down to 0, and thus you just... don't drain HP? It would require more testing, but this is my best guess just based on when it occurred (Since it basically happened when you got Antique 4 while having Heart of the Ascetic.) and what stuff you had at the time. Probably just a weird coding error where the Antique 4 bonus's DR applies to Heart of the Ascetic drain when it's not supposed to. This might also work with other damage reduction effects, just that there aren't many strong enough to work. Carleon Armor probably isn't enough raw DR for example, while Armor of Determination only works at 30% or below HP, so it won't be active while the Heart's drain would be active etc. Presumably, if you dropped below 70% HP during that run, your HP would have started draining, but you uh... literally never did that after getting the Heart and Antique 4... cuz uh... ya know. Hercules things.
I don't think it was Infectious Disease, but it could have been. Could just be a screwy math situation, but the above seems somewhat more likely, just based on how the math works out and my knowledge of programming issues. But hey, it is currently A Mystery.
