I saw this comment at the beginning of the video and thought to myself, "OK, he'll miss one or two because of the graves." But no, it's a lot more than that. It may even be in the double digits.
This hard mode is genuinely one of the best I've seen in any game in a long time. Not only are your reflexes and spatial awareness tested with new enemies, attack patterns, and an entirely new final boss, but your game knowledge is tested as well with inscription locking, resource management outside of gold, and dark abilities that are intentionally useless for some skulls and game changers for others. It's shows that Southpaw knows their game inside and out and expects you to know as well if you want to survive.
a lot of roguelikes have a spike difficulty modifier, but i really think Skul's is the most well done hard mode i've ever seen. Its really amazing how the devs thought everything through too be hard, but not unfair. its also the most creative, just compare with other like, dead cells, hades, curse of the dead gods, gunfire reborn, noita etc.
I REALLY like how the game actively rewards you each time you beat a difficulty level by adding a new mechanic. Enemies do get tankier, but NEW enemies also appear so it remains fresh with new challenges. Overall, I'd say it's an incredible hard mode. Well implimented.

You missed the other new machine on the bottom of the demon king castle at the end of the video that says that more bones will be offered in bone rooms. It now means you can get both skulls to legendary AND max out all three shrines. Which is absolutely worth it IMO.
Such a cool bug to get to experience. And out of all the characters it could have happened with I think Gravey was particularly interesting to see unfold.
I dont know if you saw it Beelz but the lower part of that machine you got for your 8 clear increases the amount of bones you get from bone piles. So its two parts. You get more gold from gold rooms and more bones from bone rooms.
i just had my perfect bleed run today where i got the grail and the blood-drinking sword with other crazy stuff. what a synchronicity seeing u talking about it.

Don't feel too bad about the Episode length Beelz. It is nice to have something to watch/listen to over multiple short sessions. If anything, I'd suggest leaving timestamps/Marking the acts on the Seek bar? Not sure how much time it takes to add those on YT, but having clearly defined 'checkpoints' in the video would help with the feel of the new run length I think.
14:40 Beelz: buy with quarz and sell for gold = Stonks! btw in hard Mode Medal Box is more easy to stack up bc the passive adventure is counted, so Act 1 are 2 stack, act 2 are 3, act 3 are 4, so it got buff in one sense. In the end i think i counted 4/5 treasure u miss, and yes, i will be one of the guys "Beelz, if u think more u can had managed better ur gold", but hey, nice and fun run. P.s: i enjoy long and fun run bc im stuck 10 hour at work xD
amazing so as you go deeper in the mirror the more customizable the run becomes and extra bone fragments after getting the skull you needed to legendary, you can use those fragments into powering up even further, also been awhile since we saw our pal gravey
From what I've picked up from this new update, they took some of the best aspects of other roguelikes and made it their own. Seeing runs like these, where someone (our dear Beelz in this case) can disprove the theories and discussions that were made before the update regarding certain skulls and items (this video is a brilliant example for it) is so fascinating, being able to access such an amount of builds and synergies make Skul feel more solid from a gameplay perspective, imho.
I think they should add a random legendary skull generator, you can use it once only(per run), you get what you get, so you could do some awesome legendary runs str8 from the start...
The Mercury Hearts seems like a good combo with Omen, since they can completely negate hits and you can more effectively build other defenses behind them, since you don't have to worry about overflow.
Even the twin Saviors struggled against the power of the Dark Hero, but came out triumphant! Honestly, I get where they're coming from with Gravy not working too well in higher difficulties--the extra clutter on the screen backfires a great deal by getting in the way, and the lack of "controlled" damage can be a problem since you're stuck mostly running around and praying they kill the larger threats for you. Even then, that's also fine if you focus primarily on dodging around and summoning, instead of engaging bosses in any form of a direct fight--it'll be slower to an extent, but their health did get steadily chipped away at! Good stuff, and interesting to see how (double) Gravy handled the Hero with his full army prepared! Hey there, person reading this! Hoping the start of the year hasn't been kicking your rear too heavily, but keep the fight going, and best wishes on the days, weeks, and months to come!
4 things i learned from this video: 1. Beelz, looking for mutant and swap CD, overlooked the fact that Necronomicon now has that in addtion to magic boost 2. Beelz, a sucker for the Sin item, since it served no purposes late game and he wouldn't ditch it ( albeit turning all dmg to magic, he didnt basic attack much, and 10% dmg received reduction was negligible) 3. Silent Cries was prolly very good on little Skul, wish i knew that sooner on my lvl9 run, my defense was that translation was confusing 4. Starting from HP is the comfortable limit for Dad fight to try and survive his outbursts if you feel like you lack dmg
The story bits from the dark spirit man are very interesting. Lore theory time! From what the spirit said this person is controlling things from the background and made the mirror to further refine dark quartz. These will be my two big guesses as to who they are, and it all depends which side of the mirror is the real world. 1. Assuming normal mode is the real world, the dwarf who handles the mirror is the most obvious candidate, as he obviously has the greatest knowledge of the dark quartz. He was able to extract the pure dark quartz from the mirror and further adjusts the mirror world with more "difficulty" to extract more pure dark quartz. The other factor that suggests this is that he was probably the one who gave the Carleon empire the knowledge in the first place and was the one supplying monster test subjects and sold out the demon army. Also, all the upgrades in the hard mode are technology based, which he is the engineer. 2. Assuming the hard mode is the real world, the dark witch may be the real villain. This one is much less obvious and less likely, but she could either have been the one who sold out the army and is simply lying to you about losing her magic, she did teleport at mirror 9, which is the final difficulty and she got what she needed and is dropping the act. She could also be very prideful and is just showing off her inventions, knowing you won't beat her in the end. She could be using all her magic on the hero on an illusion or something like that. She is the only human in the world that has both human magic and the trust of the demon army to conduct experiments. So, she could be the spy the whole time. 3. Its someone totally new lol! In the end, dad is most likely an illusion or being manipulated by someone to further refine the quartz through battle with you, since noted in the beginning you have a special dark quartz in your chest. this actually supports both theories, as the witch was the one who revived you to begin with in the story and the dwarf would learn how to extract it from you by using the mirror.
Armor of Fear and Sin are also bugged at the moment.Sin adapts your damage which also applies to True Damage at the moment. Got a nice 27541 hit with the Effect of the armor. With apocalypse would be even more 😬
27:48 as an added plus of buying skulls, if the one you purchase gives less fragments than the traded skull, then you can equip it and trade it to get more bang for your buck
In difficulty 1 i think he healed 530 per tick with the grab. Here it was 1290 per tick. His HP more than doubled damn. Looking forward to difficulty 9!
Fun fact about the castle, you can stand on the little plateau that the skull who was painting would be on. Weird fact but the fact that you can do that is just funny to me.
The lack of duplicate protection in the shop is a bug, and it will probably be fixed... We can also get duplicate items from that slot. But honestly, it's been fun to do these runs with duplicate skulls. Recently I saw FOUR Grave Diggers, so I also did a double Gravy Oberon run. Very fun! I also did a double pike run, and their swap-in dash deals a good chunk of damage! I wish they kept the duplicate skulls as a feature of Dark Mode... I also believe the Level 9 run is next, so... I hope we see something really busted tomorrow! 💪
Haven’t watched your Pike builds yet, but has anyone else noticed that if you activate his March skill then switch to your other skull, your other skull can keep dashing except they don’t lose invulnerability.

[Spoiler] I still remember that old man that gives us dark abilities appearing in the end of original story when witch mentioned "But who provided them with dark crystals and who was it that controlled everything behind the scene".
My first DM 9 win was with duel Hunt werewolf, and I got Sin as well, so my Predation was doing some good damage, but the constant swapping was what made it pretty sick.
The more I've seen the more I'm impressed by the update. I am so glad they decided to add new enemies and not do the classic Ascenscion where they just gut your tool kit or things from normal runs.
So, Gravey works well as a support skull for other magic skulls as he sets up his summons which stick around after you swap into another skull like reaper.
I hope difficulty 9 is absolutely nuts, and inverts the cursed quartz buffs & uncursed quartz buffs. Imagine, on difficulty 9, where there are only 2 buffs that don't screw you over (instead of having only 2 buffs with negative effects) and you must make that choice on whether or not Kingslayer is worth the drawback
The new defensive dark abilities actually makes dark paladin quite nuts. If you combine it with bomber, you can get a constant shield without using any cool abilities at all

Coward is such a cool dark ability but it wouldn't be good for videos since if you get hit the screen goes black but the 45% amp to all damage is insane
Very interesting for people to say gravey is not good in higher difficulties, I wonder what is the reasoning behind it. In my opinion gravey work even better in higher difficulties, if not one of the best skulls equipped for handling higher difficulties, because the more chaotic the higher difficulties' combat get, the less u want to engage in combat with the enemies. With gravey u can just go in there, summon ur goons and get out and just watch the enemy die. Less combat u engage urself in, the less damage and more likely u are to win.
I kinda curious about Reverse Fate, think maybe be possible make Bloody death or Oberon archer if applied to inscription too, I see so many possible build's, and thanks beelz to explain de machinery on the start.
Hello Backseat Gamer here. Just wanted to mention that at 1:11:00 if you'd have destroyed hot flamey boy instead of destroying the quint you'd be at 131 frags and could've afforded 2 max life upgrades and gotten healed in the process instead of getting 10 max life from the quint
the teleporting enemies teleports other enemies to place where there's more monsters i think? but it also heals them by quite a bit while teleporting them
Here's my idea for the game: what if there is an upgrade for skull, but you need to be on max difficulty, and that you find the actual head of the skul merchant that may give you a boon of some sort on the last visit of the shop. Then after that you need to kill dad ONLY with little bone to get a secret ending that gives you the upgrade to skul to look like that alternate look that you see the first time you kill dad. Let me know about your idea for skul's upgrade.
So you didnt mentioned the bone machine from underneath the gold one but basically it gives you bone fragments when you check a bone pile , the higher the rarity the more bone frags you ll get, and after you beat lvl 9 you ll get your last dark quartz machine, so good luck
Entirely unrelated, but man I'd love to do a clone clone + clone clone run. Just make sure you don't double up on any inscriptions aside from maybe arms or artifact and just go for it!
Ninja Master with Rampage, Blade, Infinite Bone, and that dark power that reduces cooldowns seems like it could be complete insanity. I'm hoping you find a run for that at some point.
ngl gravedigger is kinda funky; to me he's basically a glass cannon in a snese. he lacks any skills which help him survive or any good mobility options, forcing you to have to try to avoid as best as you can; but his summons if you set up enough of them can easily stack up a ton of damage. he's basically a perfect crowd control yet terriblegainst tough enemies. also ngl Predicted Pain's logo reminds of me Dio's WRRRYYYYYYY pose XD
The more I look at king slayer the less I find myself needing it unless I'm going for a quick run. Though if you pick up 1 omen item it becomes an absolute must take
If you wanna try and get grail on sword - on 15th reroll (5 left to go) on dary quartz reroll station in the shop you always get legendary item so you can linda try to fotce it 🎉
I hope they don't "fixe" the double Bomber skull. I was so sad when they took it out sure it was beyond op and made the game a walking simulator but it was also so satisfying
Okay, so I'm wondering what the other new equipment does. You only clicked the one that tells you the gold rooms do more stuff. What about the one underneath it that you and witch first talked about? They seem to be different, since she did say that two machines appeared at once. But damn, this hard mode is expertly done. While there is a scaling health thing, the new enemies and ways to interact with the game is so neat and fun. I've been playing through it myself, and man it's so neat just finding out how to deal with the new enemies as they appear.
Finally, Gravy! We all know that the order is Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, Hamlet (fucking Hamlet making Gravy unfun to use), but I was eager to see if you do all magic, or grab some physical because he does have physical attributes. Or find Sin! Very curious as to how this plays out. Here’s hoping to a new Biker, Gene, or Mummy run!

Watching Beelz struggle in a Skul Run is a bit like watching somebody draw blood on Superman.

The new defensive dark abilities actually makes dark paladin quite nuts. If you combine it with bomber, you can get a constant shield without using any cool abilities at all

Coward is such a cool dark ability but it wouldn't be good for videos since if you get hit the screen goes black but the 45% amp to all damage is insane

Very interesting for people to say gravey is not good in higher difficulties, I wonder what is the reasoning behind it. In my opinion gravey work even better in higher difficulties, if not one of the best skulls equipped for handling higher difficulties, because the more chaotic the higher difficulties' combat get, the less u want to engage in combat with the enemies.
With gravey u can just go in there, summon ur goons and get out and just watch the enemy die. Less combat u engage urself in, the less damage and more likely u are to win.
That skill cooldown one will be AMAZING for predation on werewolf with Rip Aparts resetting cooldown.
Now I would like us to have a bestiary to see all those cool enemies designs

Hello Backseat Gamer here. Just wanted to mention that at 1:11:00 if you'd have destroyed hot flamey boy instead of destroying the quint you'd be at 131 frags and could've afforded 2 max life upgrades and gotten healed in the process instead of getting 10 max life from the quint
the teleporting enemies teleports other enemies to place where there's more monsters i think? but it also heals them by quite a bit while teleporting them
Here's my idea for the game: what if there is an upgrade for skull, but you need to be on max difficulty, and that you find the actual head of the skul merchant that may give you a boon of some sort on the last visit of the shop. Then after that you need to kill dad ONLY with little bone to get a secret ending that gives you the upgrade to skul to look like that alternate look that you see the first time you kill dad. Let me know about your idea for skul's upgrade.

So you didnt mentioned the bone machine from underneath the gold one but basically it gives you bone fragments when you check a bone pile , the higher the rarity the more bone frags you ll get, and after you beat lvl 9 you ll get your last dark quartz machine, so good luck
Entirely unrelated, but man I'd love to do a clone clone + clone clone run. Just make sure you don't double up on any inscriptions aside from maybe arms or artifact and just go for it!

Ninja Master with Rampage, Blade, Infinite Bone, and that dark power that reduces cooldowns seems like it could be complete insanity. I'm hoping you find a run for that at some point.

Future Trunks Run abusing infinite cooldown spammed sword counters should be a treat given the new level 8 enemy.
I wonder if there will be a mastery system. Like showing on the skulls what the highest difficulty you’ve beaten a run with it.

ngl gravedigger is kinda funky; to me he's basically a glass cannon in a snese. he lacks any skills which help him survive or any good mobility options, forcing you to have to try to avoid as best as you can; but his summons if you set up enough of them can easily stack up a ton of damage. he's basically a perfect crowd control yet terriblegainst tough enemies. also ngl Predicted Pain's logo reminds of me Dio's WRRRYYYYYYY pose XD

I hope they don't "fixe" the double Bomber skull. I was so sad when they took it out sure it was beyond op and made the game a walking simulator but it was also so satisfying

Okay, so I'm wondering what the other new equipment does. You only clicked the one that tells you the gold rooms do more stuff. What about the one underneath it that you and witch first talked about? They seem to be different, since she did say that two machines appeared at once.
But damn, this hard mode is expertly done. While there is a scaling health thing, the new enemies and ways to interact with the game is so neat and fun. I've been playing through it myself, and man it's so neat just finding out how to deal with the new enemies as they appear.
Finally, Gravy! We all know that the order is Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, Hamlet (fucking Hamlet making Gravy unfun to use), but I was eager to see if you do all magic, or grab some physical because he does have physical attributes. Or find Sin! Very curious as to how this plays out.
