- We try and cover some of the important points to consider when you're buying a Taycan. I'm assuming that if you're buying privately you'll ensure you've done the usual checks just as you would any car (History / Finance / Damage etc).
Also important to take a look at some of the main points to consider if you're buying from the trade.
Thanks for watching!

Another good video. Very helpful to those looking at the possibility of a Taycan and maybe even being their first EV. I can vouch for everything you said, having bought my Turbo CT in September. Absolutely love it. I find myself wanting to go out in it every day.
Exactly this! Good to see you flying the flag!
I can share the same experience, we drive three Porsches. The Taycan the most in any conditions (Switzerland)
Just bought my 2nd one,my first one was a saloon Turbo, just bought a GTS Sport Turismo in Crayon.Bought the Turbo £126K,done 41K miles over 3 and 1/2 year, got £53K for it.Brilliant cars that charge quickly and drive tremendous.Range is just over 200 mile in winter,240 in summer.
How do you afford these? What?
I have my own financial business, work hard, play hard.
@@celticminkster9147 good for you man, keep up the good work!
Crazy depreciation but that's part and parcel with EV 😂. Saying that bros got a 4S performance plus...if you don't have a family seems interesting to have a huge 4 door
I would love to see something around warranty buyback/lemon branded title Taycans. I understand the implications of buying used, but there are a ton of branded title Taycans in the market, the dealerships seem to be trying to charge the same as a clean title Taycan. I would love to hear your input on a Taycan wearing a scarlet letter.
My take is avoid. Unless you can get an INSANE deal. There's enough Taycans out there to take your pick from.
My dealer said the same about current production. They are also offering discounts on cars , which was unheard of. And from stock. High used stock as well. Secondhand prices are getting better (lower). Still the range that worries me. Face lift will probably see some improvements? But also depress prices further.
I think prices will stay under pressure for some time. I wonder if they'll also tighten up new supply a bit to keep inventory balanced. The big problem here is the EV business tax breaks require a new car for the full benefit.
Most Taycans are coming off their original warranty now and that's the main reason why used values have fallen off a cliff. Like you said there are too many unknowns with the Taycan and many owners got cold feet, and with interest rates going higher and higher, many lessee's are just handing them back to Porsche UK at the end of their leases. A pending facelift is also an issue for many potential buyers.
Exactly - it's an interesting time right now, still some great bargains out there though!
There seems to be quite a few Warranty Buyback branded title Taycans. If they are still covered by Porsche should us looking to buy used steer clear?
It depends on the circumstances, I would check directly with your local Porsche center if you're considering one of them...
Just about to swap from a 14 month old 4S CT to a brand new GTS ST. The local dealer is literally bending over backwards to get me into a new car, I suspect the deal I’m getting won’t be around for long. The spec is almost identical to my 4S and getting into a GTS will bring an even bigger smile to my face! If you are interested in a new Taycan, now is the time to go and get a great deal.
Some good perspective there! Enjoy the GTS - the ST is a great looking version!
if you let go off the gas pedal, does its regenerative breaking actually make it stop or does it roll until you tap the break (in order to activate the auto-hold break, if it has something like that but i suppose it does)
It's not a one pedal car, there are different regen modes, have a look at my previous video, it's covered on that.
This is not what you expect from a Porsche (..) Why? The majority of Porsche-owners have more than one Porsche (..) So experience should remain consistent (..)
@@andreatanzi3191 indeed. I thought it was strange that they omitted the paddle control of the regen braking especially as Audi do have this on the same platform.
@@ColinMill1 Audi targets a different customer base, and their direct competitors have one-paddle; Porsche competitors not.
@@andreatanzi3191 I'm talking about using two paddles behind the steering wheel as used on PDK equipped ICE cars like the Panamera. Give that the Taycan will have many potential customers migrating to it from the Panamera who will naturally use the paddles to down-shift for increased engine braking, missing this feature that is on the same platform Audi is strange to say the least.
you didnt mention buy a 93kwh battery and or go for the charger upgrade for 400v chargers which is essential.
Good point on the battery. Are you referring to the 22kw AC upgrade or the DC 150kw option? I recommended against the 22kw if you're only ever AC charging at 7kw as it was a known point of failure. The 150kw 400v option is very country dependent...
What you did not mention is to budget for tyres !! Consumption is high (..)
Depends how you drive. Video was already getting long. Definitely one to cover in ownership costs!
Love my 4S, but dear god, the Electrify America network sucks! Half the time I plug in at EA, I get an error or the stall is out of service. Good thing everyone is adopting the NACS plug from Tesla ❤
Interestingly here in UK Teslas have CCS... Pretty reliable, when you can find a charger 😆
I have been seriously considering one, coming from a performance Model S, and because Tesla cancelled my Plaid order (LHD is a deal breaker for me). However, your useful video has made my mind up that the Taycan is a no for me coming from a fully loaded model S - poor range combined with inferior charging network, inferior software and app, all the added subscription costs, higher warranty and insurance costs. Thanks for going through the various aspects from an owner perspective.
Appreciate the comment, glad it helped. Looked at the plaid too - apparently they'll do you one for £80k ish, but as you say - LHD
Any way to check the battery health/degredation of a used Taycan?
You need to get it on to the OBD / diags to see that kind of info... Basically an OPC / good indie
Can someone in the chat share what they are paying for insurance? I’m in the USA, but amounts from the UK are welcome. I’m looking a purchasing a used Turbo or Turbo S. Thanks!
Could have shown upcoming face lift Taycan spy shots that you have seen :)
Hope to do more dedicated content on this one!
You will not see a huge difference, typical Porsche and good so (..)
Cayennes, Macans are the same intervals. No difference. First service cost £1k for Cayenne hybrid. Insurance much lower. Guessing you also need a tracker to get insurance? Another cost.
Yeah, I didn't know if it's just me but I'd be really uncomfortable leaving the same oil in a car for so long. I guess I'm old school 😆
Tracker isn't a must, but so cheap through Porsche it's a no brainer.
I love my Taycan Turbo. But: owning a porsche is kind of a sugar daddy deal. Still i love it.
Better to own and have experienced than not to own.
I do not like the price and depreciation. I respect the technology but that price drop is simply impossible to live with 🙂 Maybe now if they give you 30+ percent discount on older gen 1 after gen 2 comes... There are plenty TAYCANs unsold at the moment.
The market is literally flooded...
Educating myself on a car that I'll probably never be able to afford
Need to stay positive! 👍
The best guide is don’t buy one unless you want to lose shit loads of money
But why is the price going down?
To make them even more tempting...
Probably because they are still relatively new EV’s and there are still some uncertainty on how they will hold up over the long term.
You dont know how much I want to pick up a used one of these... However...
Range... ✖️
Charging window...✖️
Insurance...✖️
Waranty...✖️
Unknown reliability...✖️
Recall history...✖️
Yearly subscription Services...✖️
😢
There's lots of positives too. Plenty of folk getting onboard with a used one and enjoying it. ✅
Dream car, but so many comments on the Internet trying to put me off it.
Don't believe everything you read on the internet...
Just try one, and before buying consider your true driving pattern (daily mileage need and charging infrastructure in your region). If you can recharge at home (11kw/h) you will rarely have a serious problem (..) Personally, I do not regret the buy despite all criticism (I leave in Switzerland and travel alot between Germany snd Italy). Greetings, Andrea
Nice cars but shocking depreciation. For God’s sake don’t buy new!
Hindsight...
A lot of new owners were company cars, businesses and lease.
They look cool but I wouldn’t buy a non-Tesla EV after my experience with an Audi E-tron. Terrible range, poor performance, and the software is garbage. Charge scheduling never even worked properly. Teslas are like alien technology by comparison. Not a Tesla fanboy, I’ve owned tons of german sports cars and italian exotics (and still do).
Well this afternoon I was in Porsche dealership for about an hour, not matter how I look at the Taycan, I just cannot get on with it. I think it looks awful and going forward its not the correct tech besides the forecourt is full of them....Most Porsche drivers will wait until they feel confident enough to invest in a EV or Hybrid.
Yeah, I think it's important to like the look of the car you drive. You spend a lot of time with it!
I respect your opinion, though you are wrong with your assumption on “the most Porsche Drivers will”. Taycans are owned by customers with already 1.7 Porsches in their garage (..) In my case are three (..) In this situation you will understand that all drawbacks are pretty irrelevant, what definitely are an issue if you just want a single car (..)
By the way, have you been there one hour to look at it? No drive? Singular (..)
@@andreatanzi3191 Taycan is ahead of the time because all future boxster EV and Cayman EV will be based on it. Leading onto the 911 hybrid eventually. Either way notes will be taken for future development. Depreciation is heavy across EV. Still early days and distrust with them. Tbh my brother bought a Taycan after having a 911. I'm still yet to sample any Porsches.
lol . not gonna buy it . any car with subscriptions sucks.
Stay away from EVs if you value your social mobility and really care about the environment.
Buyers guide? Simple: Do not buy it. The best car advice is to avoid any vehicle that loses nearly 50% of its value in your first year of ownership. And the Porsche Taycan range is one of those vehicles.
Looks like someone can't afford it 😂
Hilarious. I have watches that both cost more - and have held their value better than, a Taycan. @@TheLukaszpg
Isn't that the best bit for used car industry and Used Approved business. Someone has to take a hit. Fortunately most owners were lease and company car owners. UK needs that used car market which is suffering at the moment due to high interest rates. EV depreciation is harsh across the board. That's undeniable 😂. It's the distrust and high price points.
I agree with you. I would only buy a Taycan - or any high depreciation auto - that is around 3 yrs old and after someone else has taken most of the hit. @@autodigitvlogs
I’m buying the dip my guy😂
