- Well, this is a game I never thought I'd be playing, today we're going to see how the grind fares on a notourisly terrible game, so that's what we're finding out today. Is Alien Colonial Marines as bad as people say? Well let's find out by grinding all 60 achievements that this game has, and trust me this is an interesting grind. Enjoy!

Fun fact about the game, the AI is so buggy because there was 1 spelling mistake, it was supposed to say Tether but the programmer said teather (or other way round don't remember off top of my head). But thats why the AI is scuffed. Doesnt fix all other bugs though
And no one bothered to at least double check the code?
The development of this game is an interesting story in what not to do.
Gearbox were prioritising developing their own projects over this, so they outsourced a lot of it. The studio it was primarily outsourced to was given surprisingly little to work with considering how long Gearbox was "developing" it. Some assets and some poorly optimised graphical effects that would be later discarded for performance reasons. That studio then had to deal with inference from Gearbox & the game's publisher Sega requesting changes and having to discard chunks of their work and do it again. That studio's work would make up 25-50% of the final product depending on who you ask.
Gearbox eventually took the game back in house saying they were unhappy with the outsourced developer, and because it was Not Good, asked Sega for an extension, but Sega said no because it had already been delayed multiple times.
So Gearbox now has about nine months to finish it after pissing away so much time, which is not a lot. It was one of the longest rush jobs in gaming.
Oh yeah, I remember a lot of people covering that news back in the day. It was and is still a bit funny.
@@korhol2065It's much easier to make this kind of mistake than you would imagine. It's very hard to pin down a single misspelled word in potentially tens of thousands of lines of code. With that being said, it's inexcusable for a professional project of this scale; especially when you don't even know that's what's causing the problem. My guess is that they assumed the AI was inherently poorly written instead of thinking it was an actual bug. They still completely deserve the criticism either way.

Final Verdict: This channel appears to be grossly underrated, especially considering the quality and engagement. Background music could have improved the experience. Regardless, this is a quality video with lots of effort put into it.

You should try either High on Life or Bramble: The Mountain King for an achievement grind. High on Life was an absolute blast and can be done in one or two playthroughs. Bramble would be a bit harder but it’s a unique and good time.

Although this game is not bad, seeing you play through banjo Kazooie awoke the need in me for you to do a video on my favorite childhood game medievil! It's a very fun game and I remember it being decently challenging! Maybe worth a look!

Maaan, how innocent we were back then, when a buggy, half baked shooter that looks like last gen was considered the worst game ever made. Now that does kind of just sound like Redfall. I feel like today Colonial Marines wouldn't even be able to break the top 50 of worst games ever made.
A lot of trophy/achievement TH-camrs treat the trophies like a shopping list and talk about them in sequence while barely talking about the game itself. Sometimes I've seen videos skip the entire campaign and just show the trophy pop-ups, what's the point in that?
Your videos are so good because you'll go through the game's story and gameplay too, so it's more of your personal experience with the game, rather than a bland list of trophy pop-ups. Really looking forward to the Fallout videos, would like to see Skyrim too.
Finally, someone who gave an honest opinion on this game. And seeing you play it made me realize how awful I was at it when I played it as a kid with my cousin, and how little I improved. Nevertheless, I just enjoyed shooting aliens.

Ahh, ACM! welcome to the shared pain, comrade! When I closed the game on steam, it would immediately restart itself. It took a solid 2 minutes of spam clicking the stop game button on steam to fully exit.
I think you should go and play hi-fi rush. It's a great rythem based action game and I enjoyed every second of the campaign. I haven't 100% the game and don't think I'm going to, I'm not that kind of person.
have you thought about playing Metal Gear Rising: Revengance? its one of my favorite games and i would love to see you struggle to grind it. i cant wait to see this... amazing... game!
Definitely, however for Metal Gear im going to be waiting for the new collection to come out so I can hopefully cover the entire series! :)
So I can give you a couple of anecdotes regarding some of issues the overall player base suffered with this game as I picked it up day 1 on pc back when it initially came out, some people have already covered the Peacn.ini file typo glitch which misspells "Tether" to "Teather" and breaks Xeno pathing... which is really the most egregious bug that helps make the game far easier than was intended, and resulted in VERY stupid xenomorph AI that would get hung up on objects and stuff.
Ignoring the dev promises and all that, there's the fact they redirected funds intended for A:CM to finish up Borderlands.
After the game released, despite them never pushing a patch to fix the ini file bug, they did release a SHIFT code from Randy Pitchford that added 1 single marine customization emblem for your armor "Friend of Gearbox"... which kinda poured salt in the wound. There was also a bug for quite some time that manifested on some people's systems where you could shut the game down, and it'd instantly relaunch itself from steam until you killed steam as a process via task manager.
There was also the fact that for an ALIENS game, it felt like you had to fight too many WY PMC's... granted the base campaign is basically 3 xeno exclusive levels, 3 pmc exclusive levels, and 3 levels of mixed xeno/merc forces... so the breakdown isn't that over the top for fighting humans, but a lot of people found it quite frustrating given the mercs weaponry is hit scan.
It's interesting you mention you feel the game looks like a PS2 game... I disagree as it very obviously has that PS3/360 era feel to it, but it's interesting you mention that, as it was back on the PS2 where the initial concepts for Aliens: Colonial Marines started and it was originally being developed for PS2, but that initial project got scrapped before Gearbox took on the job.
Ultimately I just wanted to say, a great video from someone who missed out on this at the time... and frankly, you're right, it's not the worst game, and it's got a little bit of charm to it, but it's a low tier CoD clone with an ALIENS skin at the end of the day. Fun for a bit of xeno hunting, but get's old fast... just be glad you didn't pay a full 60USD for it like I did.

A nice simple shooter
I’d recommend Library of Ruina, it’s not a terrible game though. It’s a very difficult card battler and the only game made by its creators with achievements! It has a gripping story, fun game mechanics, and just all around a great time!

played this now they HAVE to play Alien VS Pred for the xbox [where you can play as all 3 races] that game was my childhood
I only have a few more challenges left to get the last trophy needed for the Platinum trophy and that is the distinguished service medal trophy, it seems impossible now!

If you wanna continue down the Alien Route I think Alien Isolation would be a fun challenge you could look into, it is genuinely an amazing game and I can promise you that the challenge for not dying once is easily one of the hardest challenges any gamer can attempt to complete

Jazzy finding the F button is not the flashlight like most people did, should be a rite of initiation for everyone playing this game.
I feel like the 2nd level was just a big reference to aliens (the 2nd alien movie)
This is a suggestion for an achievement grind, sayanora wild hearts, all achievements are riddles.
Also the face huggers are easier in single player, in coop they actually are a threat
I know it’s not a big triple a game, but one of my fave games is just getting a sequel coming out on the 12th, so if you feel like playing Oxenfree, even though it’s definitely more indie narrative game than speedrun/grind kind of stuff, I’d love to see your thoughts on it!

i loved this game when it came out. i know all of its faults, and they are reason enough to not like it - but me and my friends would have an absolute blast shooting xenomorphs back then
I find this game to be an absolute blast. Me and my brother had a fuckin riot with this game even tho I don’t think we ever beat it. It may not be the best story wise, voice acting wise, and AI wise, but personally I think it’s great at just being a fun game

You could also try Alien Vs. Predator, 3 campaings, Human, Alien and Predator, and if you can revive the multiplayer, is kind fun
From what I've seen I agree with you, it was somewhere in the middle, neither good nor bad, but as someone who is fond of the Alien franchise it was probably a pretty big letdown, comparable to how Conviction was for Splinter Cell fans, RE6 for Resident Evil fans or Last of Us part II for fans of the first game. In my opinion none of the aforementioned were bad in their own right, but depending on your expectations they could all feel like a letdown.

Aliens fireteam elite is a pretty good multiplayer aliens game I never dealt with bugs or anything so if you want a good aliens game I definitely recommend that one
Given your a fan of Dishonored, you should give Aragmai 1 or 2 a try and see about 100%ing those games
played it when i was a kid and i enjoyed it. Was a fan of aliens (and still am) of the alien movies, and as a kid playing and fighting alone one of the main characters from the movies? That was sick, even thinking back n the game i dont really mind the retcon, the newer movies kinda fuck the stories anyway lmao.
If you doing this on pc there is a fix for the code to fix the ai
i say the next game you should do is aliens vs predator 2010, its not bad you can play as alien, marine, or predator,nightmare difficulty is 3-5 bullets has alien ur dead along with restarting ur current mission with no checkpoints
funny enough i actually did the same thing with sonic 06 played it with zero bugs and enjoyed it was super shocked that people hated it though i will say the stupidest bug i saw was that if you stopped holding a direction on loop de loops you stop moving like who stops holding the controls?
If there’s achievements for it fear and hunger it’s an easy game to grind and is very fast :)

You should play Alien vs predator (AVP) Such a good game, you have three campaign, one for the humans, the Aliens, and the predators, so good and so fun seeing how all three fight and try to survive
I thought about that, but I think I read that A LOT of the achievements aren't obtainable anymore... Imma double check now.
