Randy's still working on the Mustang at 5:30 in the morning after doing a complicated intake manifold swap and the arm chair pit crew on here are out of their minds over a dirty engine. Looks like reality doesn't get in your way often.
I don't think Randy is interested in replacing any more coil packs due to water damage. Happened to him on the S600 and that could be a reason why he hasn't done it since. That's how I can tell that these folks have not followed him for very long.
This is true, however if it were me I would have power washed that engine bay before I even touched anything just to make my work space at least 50% clean instead of leaving it 150% dirty. This is just me talking however.
Randy, Cris Fix has a great video on cleaning your engine. If you are spending the money on the paint and tires/wheels, it would be a shame to leave the engine compartment in such a filthy state.
Omg people send him the money and he'll jump right on that. Till then he's running around like a chicken with the head cut off trying to bring content to us.
Randy what a difference having a decent indoor, heated, cooled workshop makes. You are in your comfort zone not having to work in the elements and are no longer dependent on daylight. The fact that you also have some decent space makes a difference. Travel home is short and you do not need to pack all your tools away when you stop in the middle of a project. Wishing you and your family a Safe and Healthy New Year
Randy, Great repair job, and I think you got 'er done in good fashion with it being cheaper by you doing it, like you mentioned rather than sending it out! I really enjoyed this video. Liked watching you do the repairs as you teach your community audience that like to know how to do these things. As I'm learning new things and I just turned 60, but really like your channel... Keep up the super duper videos!👍
Those stock manifolds on the earlier 4.6 are known to give out. Very common issue on this motor. I had a 1996 GT that went bad, but I sure gave that lil 281 cubic incher hell the first few weeks (how long in total) I drove the car. It was a fun car and loved to rev. The car was good at making noise and not doing much in stock form. Enjoy the vids on this and swamp vette. Thanks for uploading Randy.
That’s why I watch your videos randy I’ve been learning a lot from you, Chrisfix, watchJRgo, Built official etc etc learned a lot so far so keep the content comin lovin it !
The plugs may be loose for a reason. There is a special way the plugs go into those 4.6 mod engines. I believe the engine should be warm when installing. My 03 mustang blew a plug out the block after a tune up for failing to tighten when the engine was warm
As much as I like the S550 Mustangs, there’s something about the SN95 and new edge Mustangs I find fascinating. I especially like to see a decent car get a second chance. That’s the only thing I hate about walking through the junkyard, you see so many 300Zs and Acura bodies that only need an engine and a detail.
Some of those intakes don't line up right. You have to put RTV in the head Divot holes or you get an air leak. I'm not sure if yours is that style, it may be ok. Check fuel trims at idle. Had to redo my Grand marquis. There is usually a paper with the intake about it, sometimes not. 4:47, the rubber gaskets straddle the divots on the head.
Well done, mate. Several jobs done in one night of wrenching - including a major one. When she finally fired afterward, she was definitely on 7, but after a couple of good revs, the engine stopped wobbling with the dead miss, so maybe one of the spark plug holes let a bit of coolant down when you pulled the plug and it didn't clear until the engine and plug became hot enough to steam it out. Give her a run before pulling it apart again - the motor sounds strong (and those pipes make it sing!), so if it's still an issue after the cobwebs have been blown out, it should only be a minor one. One thing kept going through my head while I watched - a quote from Derek on VGG - "All them electrotronical wiring things really get in the way of a guy try'na fix on it". All the best
You did great! You saved the Mustang and it was a shame you missed out on the bids. Enjoy your Christmas and thank you for the content. It makes a big difference.
I love the vette and the mustang 😍 very much but I'm am actually glad your saving the tempo my cousin had a 94 ford Taurus and then a tempo they were handme down cars thru the family and unfortunately the 93 tempo got totaled in like 2012 they were actually build to last back then I actually was super hype to get it back in 2013 when I got my license but didn't get the chance so hats off to you for saving that one
You should give the engine bays a real good power wash with a de-greaser and cleaner before you start working on them. That way you wont have all that dirt and dust and crud around all your connections and fittings. Just a suggestion.
I like how randy explain everything when she is taking any of his cars parts or fixing them it’s crazy because other you tubers man they don’t so than you for that randy you are the man and stay positive and strong I’m here to learn from you 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Two things. 1) loctite suggested. 2) Santa needs to bring you a new shop chair. It appears that you have been sitting down in it with screwdrivers in your back pocket, or too many taco Tuesdays. Or a combination of both.
Nice watching the intake replacement. I agree letting cars just sit is wrong, get them on the road. Before you send them for paint why not go to a car wash and pressure wash those engine bays down. I do not mean detail them but get the big chunkys off.
Your videos are great every other TH-cam's so afraid to post any video over 25mins to play the algorithm game like goonzsqaud and cleetus McFarland. Glade u keep us actually entertaining and have actual detail to your videos that length don't matter to keep us entertaining
When I need to do take engine parts I have Ziploc baggies so I mark on the bags what the bolts go to and then I just pick up that bag and put the bolts back in where they go that's what I normally do but good video keep up the good work
This proves your are a pretty decent Mechanic. You did a great job on that and the filming of it. Awesome job. Danm good thing you replaced the plugs they were so nasty and loose. Is one of the plug wires out of sink? It runs though. I am willing to bet there must be a vacuum line off or broken possibly causing misfire and fast idle 99 percent of the time. " Sell them all and buy some more! "
The biggest problem with Ford Fuel lines is if they've never been removed before they can be a bear even with the right tool, the little spring inside there gets corroded and sometimes doesn't wanna budge, lot of wiggling involved til they pop off. I wish they were more like GM Fuel lines, much easier to remove at least on the older ones idk bout the new stuff.
Randy having the right tools to do the job would make everything go smoothly. Don't equate your opinion of a bad design due to not having the right tools to do the job.
My wife's explorer uses an orange- colored coolant from factory as does my mercury montego. But I can see where someone could easily mix it up or add dexkill to non dexkill coolant. I'm guessing you found jugs in the car from previous owner. Just wanted to throw my. 02 about the orange-colored coolant being a factory coolant. Unless, previous owners on both the above said vehicles are using incorrect colored coolant.
I remember you said when you got the slp loudmouth exhaust installed you wish it were louder I can tell by the sound you got the slp loudmouth 2 the loudmouth 1s which I have are quite a biiiiiiiiiiit louder and more deep but lm2 still sound good just quiet
Randy, great work on this video. Just don't run yourself ragged and end up sick. I don't think we can go without you and your videos. Hope you and Jessica had a good Christmas. I'm looking forward to the completion of the '97 Mustang and SwampVette and sending them down the road.
Randy, your studio shop needs some of those light reflector panels to brighten you up. Also, get some rest you night owl!!! Bop till you drop can shorten your life! Take Care!
I just bought myself a sn95 also so it makes me so happy that we are working on sn95s at the same time. I've watched all your co part walk arounds and such
Installing the '99 and up PI heads on the '97 block will bump up the compression to about 10:1 and they flow better and come with more aggressive cams as well. The required intake flows better too. For that kind of major work on the SN95 it's easier to do it with the engine out.
Not even gonna play through as once you said antifreeze and low coolant i was there. Crossover right? I'll watch to see but my 96 had the same deal. Pretty sure there was a TSB on this as well but since I let it expire because I hadn't seen the issue yet I had to buy one. Gotta get the one with the aluminum crossover because the plastic one breaks. Wooo engineering! That job is truly a pain in the arse.
OOH. Nothing like the odometer not working! I've got the gear replacement on my list of to-do as well.. It's winter now, so I've got some time for the convertible hah.
DPFE Delta Pressure Feedback EGR. In other words there is a sensor that checks the upstream and down stream EGR flow to monitor efficiency and operation.
Your working hard brother, I hope your having some fun too.? Love the content and frequency of the videos. Your going to have some real fun with the older red mustang. I hope get some more stuff sold or cleared out of way so you can keep up the good work with these great videos. Nice job bro.👍
You did great and that is not an easy Job. You explained things good and I appreciate the fact that there was no inappropriate language very much as so many TH-cam channels have inappropriate language and thank you. The only thing that you should try to avoid is being pessimistic about something catastrophic is going to happen. Try to be more positive that would also help you to get and keep more viewers.
These cars are notorious for blowing spark plugs. They loosen over time due to the engine block not being threaded enough from the factory. I had a 98 GT and had an issue with mine blowing a plug. I had to rethread the hole. Not fun.
Truly one of your best videos Sir. Just keep the Cornet and the ones the boys want as their first cars. No you don't look dark, just tired. Thank you for the awesome content.
Cool deal Randy ! I just noticed the Atari computer system's sitting on your desk , classic. I still have my Commodore 64 LOL ! appreciate the vids bro 🙌Salute 🚘👊
Randy that SN95 is not a 5.0..it is a 4.6l. You can tell from the alternator, coil pack location and valve covers. Hop on my Facebook page "Ford F-150 4.6L Owners" forum & let me know if you have any questions!
Randy, if you haven't sent this Mustang to paint yet, please remember to remove the current headlights so they can paint the front bumper correctly, since you are going to replace them anyway.
I'm excited for the rebuild process on the mustang, and Randy, i believe the reason the door locks cycled because you turned/primed the key 3-4 times in 10 seconds. The door locks cycled because thats the car telling you that you put the computer into a "programming mode" thats something with fords
Hey Randy looks to me like that leaking hose under the intake has been replaced before . Look at the worm type hose clamps, I don't think Ford used them at the factory.
Correct, they use them one time deals that have to be cut off. Somebody had been there before. They also failed to retorque the spark plugs after a couple heat cycles as indicated by how loose they were.
Penguin takes a road trip from Alaska to Texas, gets half way through Arizona and his car starts over heating in the desert, so he stops at the mechanics shop to have it looked at and decides to get ice cream while he waits. He comes back eating his ice cream and asked the mechanic what’s wrong with the car, mechanic looks up at him and says, “ it looks like you blew a seal”
7of 8 plugs looked clean but one was full of carbon so maybe get some new coil packs to complete the tuneup. Also a pocket screw driver used around the fuel line quick connects will allow you to remove to the lines or got to harbor freight and get the colored metal fuel lines service kit it's about $20 bucks
Man you have so much content I used to work as a mechanic in Australia and I come here and wow things are so complicated. And now getting harder to work on cars yourself and in. This era you need scanners and they cost a lot of money to sonic saving up to buy a good one love ya videos
Randy you are the man i couldn’t even attempt to do the intake! She is going too look awesome after paint and tires!! Gonna be a great little mustang!!
Absolutely love for the work and I noticed in the video that you restored the driver side headlight it looks great can't wait to see him both finished and the paint job of the wheels love the videos
That is not a cold air intake, if its not getting cold air from outside the engine bay its a hot air or short ram intake, cold air intakes suck cool air from outside the engine bay

I wish you would detail the engine on the SN95 man. Great content today though 👍
Yea I would have powerwashed the engine bay before doing the intake.

Not gonna matter hes painting it some other color so engine bays gonna look weird being white and the car some other color
Seriously looks like the car drove through a sandstorm
Randy what a difference having a decent indoor, heated, cooled workshop makes.

Why would anyone give a thumps down on this vid????????!!!!! SMH let the haters hate!! Loved the vid randy
Also needs Interior cleaning as well. I hope you check out that 02 Saleen on IAA. That is a beautiful shade of Blue.
I was staring at that thermostat housing and yelling at the screen. Were you messing with us?
Randy, Great repair job, and I think you got 'er done in good fashion with it being cheaper by you doing it, like you mentioned rather than sending it out! I really enjoyed this video. I’ve never seen Randy do so many wrenching videos before he got his shop built !!!
Way to go buddy !!!👍👍👍👍
it is hard working outside and being reliant on the weather now go into shop run heat or air good to go
I agree. I always hate wrenching outside especially in the North where I live. It's great he has the shop to do more wrenching.
Most of his first videos were of him wrenching in his driveway.
Glad to see you back to working on the cars. Exactly why I started following in the first place
Nicely done...but they are right engine bay clean up would do a world of difference... good job.
Doing a great job Randy. I work on my own vehicle. Glad that you're showing everyone that you giving good content.

Randy, You ROCK man. I thank you for your dedication and commitment for entertaining us almost every day of the week.
You did great! You saved the Mustang and it was a shame you missed out on the bids. Enjoy your Christmas and thank you for the content. It makes a big difference.
The only thing I didn't see you tell folks was to relieve the fuel rail pressure. Good job. Its a wonder the plugs didn't make noise.
a good powerwash under the hood before disasambly would have been a great idea
She's gonna look good with a nice paint job, can't wait👍
I love the vette and the mustang 😍 very much but I'm am actually glad your saving the tempo my cousin had a 94 ford Taurus and then a tempo they were handme down cars thru the family and unfortunately the 93 tempo got totaled in like 2012 they were actually build to last back then I actually was super hype to get it back in 2013 when I got my license but didn't get the chance so hats off to you for saving that one
"Don't loose your nuts!" Randy (2020)
Rules to live by.

Those plugs should not be wet. Time for some head gaskets
Wooo! Mustang! Bout time we saw this one some more, Randy!

Love your vids, you bring back cool classics.
When you send Swamp-Vet to auction you should contact Hoovie & encourage him to buy it so he could give it away like he did with his 84 Vet
First thing to do was detail the engine before opening up stuff so dirt doesn’t fall in the engine
Randy having the right tools to do the job would make everything go smoothly. Don't equate your opinion of a bad design due to not having the right tools to do the job.
Use antiseize on plugs putting them back.
Put distilled water back in with antifreeze. It will help keep down electrolosis.

Buy some fuel line disconnect tools they are under $10 and they work for transmission and AC lines as well
Randy, you are doing a great job on the mustang! You know your way around engines. Love your show!
I remember you said when you got the slp loudmouth exhaust installed you wish it were louder I can tell by the sound you got the slp loudmouth 2 the loudmouth 1s which I have are quite a biiiiiiiiiiit louder and more deep but lm2 still sound good just quiet

Awesone video just seen your life story video's today. Got a great deal more respect for you. You brought it home and thats what counts.

Your going to have some real fun with the older red mustang.
I hope get some more stuff sold or cleared out of way so you can keep up the good work with these great videos. Nice job bro.👍
A P.I intake is more effective with a set of P.I heads. A cam will boost the power even more along with those modifications.
Great effort and pride taken to preserve dirt and crud
Like watching you work on this old mustang.
Randy when you get new color do you haft to go to the DMV to change registration

I used to have a 1998 that I foolishly sold b/c it kept burning out cooling fans. Really wish I had that car back.
Great Job!👍🏻 Can’t wait to see paint. Happy New Year to the FAMILY!!!!!
Cool deal Randy ! I just noticed the Atari computer system's sitting on your desk , classic. I still have my Commodore 64 LOL ! appreciate the vids bro 🙌Salute 🚘👊

Also its always a good idea to replace the coolant transfer tube that's under the intake while ur in there
Just wondering why you haven’t jet sprayed the engine compartment before you work on the engine. Of course after examining everything closely first.
Randy you are the man i couldn’t even attempt to do the intake! She is going too look awesome after paint and tires!! Gonna be a great little mustang!!
This was a really nice video. Next time though show us the re-assembly. I don't know how you keep track of all those connectors. Great job Randy!
If I had shown the reassembly the video would’ve been two hours long and nobody would’ve watched it LOL
Always enjoying the content randy!! Have a great day bro!! 👊👊
what a great video! I enjoyed watching you removing part from the engine, I like the funny comments when things go wrong,
Auro Auction Refills they say.. riiiiight...
The mustangs gets better and better. Job well done, Randy!
Absolutely love for the work and I noticed in the video that you restored the driver side headlight it looks great can't wait to see him both finished and the paint job of the wheels love the videos
I would detail the engine bay before and wash after. Also can't see the point in doing mechanical work after paint. Just my opinion!
Great lighting and you take the time to get it right.
That is not a cold air intake, if its not getting cold air from outside the engine bay its a hot air or short ram intake, cold air intakes suck cool air from outside the engine bay
I would love to buy that mustang but with it being winter here in MN i would only enjoy it for 5 months out of the year.
I never get notifications from ur channel but found it when refreshed.
Love the content
Are the engine mounts bad looks like it's leaning to passenger side
I’m glad I got the 5.0 and not the 4.6. Soo much easier to work on and less hose and wire mess! Gotta love the SN95 model! CANADIAN SUPERMAN APPROVES
typical 4.6L intake manifolds cracking. crappy ford plastic. this very thing happened on my late fathers 97 ford crown victoria. i wish ford would have used more metal then plastic sadly.
i love the Tempo.. oh and does that old Atari still work?
Randy why didn’t you pressure wash the engine compartment first?
How do you not have a fuel line disconnect tool? you can buy them in a set for various sizes
Randy keep these longer videos coming. Always a blast tuning in to your channel, Keep up the great content.
Did you replace the hose under the intake
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy approved ! that was good info
Good video Randy 👍👍 keep up the good work and looking forward to the next video
That was a pretty big undertaking Randy. Nice job! Looking forward to seeing her painted and putting on her new "shoes". Good content Randy...thanks!
love that 1990 red ford tempo 4door
