    Randy, man, my heart broke for you in the first minutes of this video. Like another sub, I'm 65 and semi-retired from serving as a pastor in the Southern Baptists. I've heard of, and been subjected to accusations like you describe. One thing I have learned is that in cases like yours is that defending against attacks like “ your not a good friend” is useless. You know the truth and Weirdbeard and people who know you knows the truth, and the people making attacks like this really don't matter. I've learned to consider the source.
    Oh yeah, as a former gear-head I love your channel. I say “former” because a 5 year battle with Parkinson's disease has taken care of that. Watching your videos allows me to twist wrenches, if nothing else, in my mind. Keep up the good work. God bless.

    I would also like to put in a word for how Randy treats his friends. No matter what, Randy will try his hardest to help his friends! He always says "If you need help on anything just let me know", now I haven't really need help yet, but he has helped me build a channel that is bigger then I would have ever imagined, he has looked at cars at copart and told me to stay away because that's what he would do, I could go on and on but I mean come on people. Randy is a great guy. He would do any thing for his friends. Randy thank you for the great channel and your hard work brother. Excessive amounts could be bad as this would be ring blow by and not valve seals. Also a leakdown test will show what cylinders are bad. Not like a compression test. I had a engine once with 4 broken rings and it didn't even run bad just smoked. Good Luck. I have heard of deleting the PCV causing bad ring sealing because the loss of vacuum inside the block. Some bigger cams with low vacuum have same problem and run a belt driven vacuum pump.

      @@whistlingdiesel I think an engine rebuild would be great content so I agree with you. But I noticed if a car turns into too much work, or too much in repair he ditches them. When I ask him why he wastes money on some of these clunkers...he comments..well this car is making great video content so it is NOT about the money but the content. So I am confused about his logic or reasoning. Randy is like the wind...changes direction without rhyme or reason. LOL!!

    • @rich99cobra
      @rich99cobra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@khalidedros743 I would normally agree with you but.... Randy told me one time..." I do this for video content"....so it is NOT the money being wasted on this car. If it makes good video content...he does not really care about losing money on a car. I will say this...the mustang is good video content but I think he is at the point that it is too much work. You can rebuild a 302 engine fairly cheap and we have all seen him waste more money on a worse clunker than this fox body. so this is not about the money or video content...it is about him not wanting to do the work. I have worked on fox bodies...they are fairly easy to fix and repair. someone has put a lot of money into this engine.

    The best way to minimize crankcase vapor pressure - blow-by - is to seal the engine as efficiently as possible from cylinder pressure. One way is to minimize ring end gaps by custom setting the end gaps on the top two rings to fit the way the engine will be run.

    Looks like two separate problems to me. With how baked those plugs are, looks like its been run hot. Or run hard. That score on 8 could be alot of your oil problem. Maybe badly installed or clearanced rings. It doesn't look like it was built very long ago, so I doubt wear is a big factor. Maybe the valley gasket failed which introduced fuel into that cylinder. Washing it and causing your blow by. Just a guess. I'd remove the intake, I feel like you'll find your problem there, or at least be able to see it from there.

    • @brinkee7674
      @brinkee7674 ปีที่แล้ว

      I say rings could also be a valve issue and or intake. Some pistons appear they may be washed down. It may be minor money but you really need to inspect cylinder walls to see if block is good. If bad Short blocks are cheap, you got a decent deal on the car so it's hard to tell. There is also that frame rust (almost forgot) but might not be to hard to repair. Would make for some nice videos. Folks love fox bodies and so should you( I know the vid is old and things have already been done) just adding my 2 cents

You would sink way more into it than it would ever be worth. The auction would be your best option. I'd put it back together, spend a little time cleaning it up so it'll present itself well and send it back to Copart.

    rings wasnt gaped right , ring gap closed when it got hot and the ring broke the top of the piston and...... blow-by city , happens a lot in built engines , people often neglect ring gap when beefing up they make ring files for this , all the metal in the oil is the bits of the piston that broke off , I'm 90% sure this is what happen . you might of got lucky and it didnt destroy the cylinder wall , but you going to have to open it up and find out . you might be just looking at a head gasket ,a piston . dingleball hone , and fingers crossed the other rings was gaped correctly . blew up a 350 small block going supercharged when i was a youngster same thing . but i put parts all over the road when she came apart , you might of got lucky . either way that is a nice V 7 ford hehehe , hope it can be fixed . i bet she be a ripper in a V8 version .

    Personally, I would love to see Randy do an engine build one of these days, just because I believe with his commentary it would be more than a little entertaining, but not positive the fox body is the one. I think though, very first thing I'd do before spending one more dime is to put that sucker up on the lift, and check out the rest of the underside... The strut towers and K member are common rust areas for those, but would make sure there's not a ton of other frame surprises lurking. I can say, whatever Randy does with this car, a few hundred thousand others and I will be watching... Because that's what true fans do!

    • @PhillipB78
      @PhillipB78 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition to my comment since that got cut off, the worst I'd do is, hook up as much of the Missing stuff as you can find, try to find the correct bolts for that intake, or if those are right, tap the bolt holes to clean the threads up before putting it back together, give it a nice detail for retail, you know... People pay for pretty paint, and shove it right back through the auction!

    Rings weren't gapped on that cylinder, if the grooves are too deep it's not going to be a quick fix.
    If the crank and rods are alright you might be able to bore the cylinders and get some pistons and rings and put it back together.
    Either way you have some work ahead of you.
    Hope it works out for you brother.
    Either way it's great content and your making it so we can follow along really good. Nice job 👍

    First thing, Randy - a difficult decision to make regarding just how much you want to pour into this beasty. You're at that crossroads where you decide whether to try to recover your losses or bite the bullet and commit to getting into it for the long haul. Been there myself several times and when I stepped back and had a long look at one particular restoration project I had, I realised that I would be putting more money into the car than it would ever hope to value out at unless I held onto the car for another 20 years. There was also work on it that I would either have to learn to do or pay someone else to perform - so more costs either way. Because I would be doing it up for myself, spending the money to make it right wasn't a problem, but I then happened to see a more realistic project that I knew I could cope with doing the work on much easier (ie: all by my own hand) and although the car cost more up front, I did not have so much to fix on it.
    In the end I lost a few hundred dollars on the other project when I sold it on, but I saved several thousand overall on parts AND about 200 man hours of labour that I still have not used on its replacement. My advice therefore is unless you are going to keep this as your own vehicle and especially if you are going to have to get other people to do some of the work needed to bring her up to scratch, sell it on. There will be another one more suited to your abilities, time and budget that will come along......always!
    In regard to the plugs, I agree - they all look pretty good except #8. Sure - they have signs that the injectors need sorting and they aren't perfect, but they look ok. When you stuck the scope down the bore of each cylinder, it showed that the engine has definitely had work done. The bore still has honing marks and the pistons are clean on top.........all except #8. Two things can cause that scoring - one is the gudgeon pin (the rod that holds the conrod in the piston body through the little end) or the circlip that holds the gudgeon in place at that end, and the other is a broken ring. Of the causes, a broken ring is more likely and the worst case scenario is that little bits of metal will have likely gone all through the bearings. If oil pressure is near immediate and a fair way up the gauge when cold (and still good when warm) then the bearings are fine.
    A broken ring would account for the scoring, the massive blow-by (and that it "chuffed" the blow-by regularly on one particular cylinder), the smoke, the regular misfire, the oily plug and the fuel ending up in the sump oil. My guess is the oil master (bottom ring) has broken and just ripped the crap out of the bore. The cause? Well, looking at the evidence, I would say the engine was rebuilt (or at least put together) by a novice and that they forgot to gap the rings (or left them too long) before fitment.
    Sometimes in this case the ring stresses will sort themselves out and sometimes the rings break. It was either that or he gave it too much loud pedal before the engine was properly bedded in and things got a bit overstressed.....but as the engine shows no internal signs of a fresh rebuild being caned, I am picking it being the rings gapped wrong and the oil ring being the one that went sayonara.
    Now....if he made that mistake on one cylinder, chances are he did it on all of them, but you would have to pull #8 piston and look at the other rings to hazard a guess. If you were very lucky, the score marks would hone out and the rings and piston would be able to cope with any additional size in the bore. You may also have to replace that one piston if the bits of broken ring have eaten into that as well (which is quite likely as the piston metal is softer than the bore).
    The more that engine runs, the more damage it will do, so if you are leaving well enough alone and putting it back in the auctions when she's back together, fire the engine to bring up oil pressure after the oil change and to test your fixes on other areas, but don't drive it anywhere and don't rev it out to anywhere near its limit. Me? I'd be tempted to pull #8, clean up the bore and thrown a new piston (if needed) and rings in before I sent it back. If she stops smoking, runs better and the blow-by goes away, she should fetch good money again - and she does have the looks, so people will just want to make sure she runs ok.
    Good luck, mate - I'm rooting for ya!

    Hey Randy👍
    That Mustang is toast. Two different paint colours overcoated with matt black and zero prep is classic bodged wreck repair. Be interesting to see what colour the shell is under the carpets🤔
    If you can get the engine running right, happy days, but the state of that front end??? Best off slapping it back together and dumping it where you found it... Or scrap it along with the Bonnekart, the red 'Vette and the Toyota. Tidy that yard up a bit 😉
    You could find someone needing transport and gift them the Tempo whilst you're at it. Clear some space for the Impala when you eventually win it🤔
    Then buy that SSR😎
