    I would spend a couple bucks and switch all the lights to nice warm LED's. It would probably help ease the stress on the generator and would help minimize that extra bit of heat. It looked like the generator wasn't super well ventilated but I suppose it's either ventilation or noise. This is 10000% one of the coolest rigs you've snagged in a hot minute

    • @wayneparris3439
      @wayneparris3439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Internal lights are 12 v. The generator is fan cooled and the vents are much more than enough to meet cooling requirements. As to load on the generator, lights are no load at all. For a Class A motorhome with a single AC unit the generator likely is a 5 KW and Dometic is a second/third tier quality gen set.

      @@wayneparris3439 As to the load on the generator - Each of those incandescent bulbs pulls about one amp. When I switched my RV to LED lighting, my power consumption dropped massively.

    For your oven, push the knob in and to light the pilot in your oven. Make sure you use a water pressure regulator anytime you are hooked up to city water so you don’t blow the water lines in the RV.

  • @ellishoover3868
    @ellishoover3868 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    Randy, your electrical gremlins that you're experiencing is probably due to weak HOUSE BATTERIES (the 6 Volt Deep Cycle ones). Get your batteries checked at your earliest convenience. Before you do any extensive time on the road, check the production dates on the tires (all 6) and check your tire pressures all around. RVs tend to blow-out the inner dually tires with regularity when not inflated properly. Harbor Freight has an attachment for your cordless drill that spins and can be used to remove those graphics that are peeling. I've had 6 RVs since 1985, all types and sizes of motorhomes. Just about anything that can happen to an RVer has happened to me! Looks like your tailpipe mounting bracket is disconnected where you're experiencing the fuel leak.

    Randy, I am not certain but your awning appears to be either a Carefree of Colorado or an A and E awning. In either case, there should be a long metal rad with a hook in the end that engages the travel locks on either end of the top of the awning - then with the awning released from its secure travel position it is pulled open (there should be a fabric pull strap near the center of the awning that the hook on the metal rod can be used to pull). Once the awning is fully extended, each awning arm is extended - the arm furthest from the door is one notch lower than the one nearest door so that rain will drain should a rain storm come up before you can get the awning retracted,

    • @kevinallen8162
      @kevinallen8162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Be very cautious when plugging your RV into an outlet - it is most likely a 30-AMP 120-Volt AC service - but it is from near the time when the industry was changing to 50-AMP 120-Volt AC.

  • @todddenio3200
    @todddenio3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I suggest that you read all of the manuals before you start just trying to use everything. As for the refrigerator, it may be unplugged which is accessible from the exterior of the RV through a hatch right behind the refrigerator. The oven will only light once the pilot is lit which requires the oven knob to be pressed in and held in until the pilot is lit and stays lit which takes about a minute. You have a lot of learning to do about RV’s even if you plan on selling it right away.

    Propane ovens usually have a pilot light. Usually under the oven, most often with a thermocouple that sits right in front of the pilot light. Should be a button you hold down while holding a flame under the thermocouple. When the thermocouple reaches the proper temperature it opens the gas valve for the pilot light which will then light. Oven should now work. Read your manual for the stove. There may be a pilot light for the top burners. Suggest you read your manuals for your other accessories.

    • @dcformee123
      @dcformee123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes the ovens have to so they could turn on and off to keep a certain temperature they have to have a pilot light but the stove don't you have to light that with the lighter or match or whatever flicks your Bick. LOL

    • @todddenio3200
      @todddenio3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend holding the oven valve in so gas can get to the pilot, light it and continue holding the valve in for about a minute then release it and it should stay lit. Using a lighter to heat the thermocouple can overheat the lighter which can be dangerous. A friend used to do it your way and the lighter overheated and stayed in the lit position which he didn’t notice when he sat it down and caught his RV’s carpet on fire.

    RV's that have driver's side doors (which aren't many) are usually intended to be used as more of an emergency exit. Most all full sized RV's rely on their side main doors as the point of normal exit and entry in recreation and travel..

    Heyy that's an ammonia fridge, very cool! Instead of a conventional compressor it uses a propane burner in order to get the ammonia to evaporate for cooling.

  • @todddenio3200
    @todddenio3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some people find the hum and vibration of the generator to be soothing and puts them to sleep. As for the gas leak, if it’s that far back it’s not going to catch on fire from the exhaust temperature but still needs to be fixed asap for obvious reasons

  • @jameelali1266
    @jameelali1266 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Since you need to have an exhaust system on the RV, get some Zetex/exhaust wrap and wrap the exhaust pipe from the manifold to halfway down the system… that’s gonna keep the heat in the pipe…only.

    • @carlbernard4197
      @carlbernard4197 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also will accelerate the exhaust flow with the heat staying in the pipe. Hot air is less dense, so makes it easier for the engine to evacuate the spent gasses out the exhaust valves. This can increase output power and make the engine more efficient on fuel.

  • @raybonecrusher4516
    @raybonecrusher4516 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You need a pressure regulator for the water when you hook up to city water. Before you get the refrigerator going check for damage at the exhaust pipe for it to see that it isn't leaking. Do not start flipping switches until you have read the instructions. You might blow the rig up. Make sure the LP leak detector is operational.

    Randy, on that awning, there should be a metal rod with a bend at the end that you can pull the awning down with. In the middle of the awning there should be a loop to grab and pull down. You need to loosen the 2 knobs on each leg of the awning and pull down. There are also latches that you release to jack the awning up higher. The legs can also fold out for a conventional awning but I never pull them out. Hope this helps! Nice rv!

    Time for a lot of carb rebuilds. The propane heats up the coolant in the fridge unit and then it goes thru a condenser which makes it cold. Same sorta way an AC/Fridge works just more like a heat pump does to cool the house. Delete that Cali emissions and that should fix your fuel leak. 3 D Cell MagLight that got to be worth some money now days since it still works. Hell might pay for the cost you spent on this motor home. There should be a rod for the awning to roll it out after you unlock it. I forget what bit is on the end been a while since I have used one.

    Most RV generators require at least a 1/4 tank of gas to start, and run. It keeps you from being stranded if you are camping out in the woods running the generator. There is usually an inside start switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

    It's been 30+ years, but turn the black knobs to free the awning and lift up to free the top (one person at each end). Then pull the top portion out. Bottom stay attached to the RV. The awning should unroll. Once all the way down, there should be arms to hold the awning out. Then lift the arms up and tighten the black knobs to hold the awning up.

    You could swap out the existing interior lights for LED equivalent products, that will reduce the demand on the generator and will not generate as much heat as the old style bulbs.

    Randy, great score. I am a Full Timer for 17 years now and on my 4th RV. There's a lot to learn.
    Be sure your hot water tank is full before turning on.
    Plenty of summer left to try it out and doing it in the yard even better. LUCK !
    Most RV's have a master cutoff switch that separates the house batteries from everything and also have a transfer relay that functions when you turn on the generator while plugged into shore power. Also known as a pass thru relay.
    House or coach batteries are separate from chassis battery. Maybe not on an older rig like yopurs.
    The transfer switch may be located near the house batteries.
    The captains chairs, pilot and co-pilot may be able to be rotated , look for a lever on the side to pull and turn the chair at the same time.
    The back bedroom with the late day sun on it will build up heat in the walls and then radiate it back into the coach.
    The water heater and fridge seem to have manual switches to go between propane and electric. Todays have automatic sw's.
    IRV2 is a great forum for looking up and getting fresh info.

    You need to push the stove button in , that opens the valve then light it. You have to make sure the pilot stays lit . You should have a water pressure regulator on from city water so it's not to much pressure. The refrigerator uses a ammonia system. It gets hot outside the refrigerator to make the inside cold. It could be a fuse on the main board not letting the electric work on the fridge.

    Randy, good purchase. You should change all the light bulbs to LEDs to reduce heat and power consumption. Plug the RV into power from your house. Most folks only use the genset when absolutely necessary. Do some "camping" in the backyard until you are comfortable with all the systems and how to run them. But most of all => Have Fun!

  • @claytoncoolidge992

    Yup propane RV fridges use an absorbtion cooling system. They don't get cold super fast and they don't make ice or freeze unfrozen things that we'll but they keep stuff cold. It uses amonia refrigerant and the propane runs a flame that heats the amonia to boil it and similar to a compressor system uses the change in state from gas to liquid to produce the cooling for the interior of the fridge the reason they usually stop working on the electric side is the heating element goes bad and needs replaced.

    At a camping area you get power from the service so you will not get any noise from the generator , very cool and cheap

    That’s a great looking vintage beast Randy. I think it was a solid purchase. If you want to cut back on heat swap out to LED bulbs that’ll help a lot. And if you have access to dry ice in your area toss some of that in the freezer/refrigerator before you leave and give it a head start cooling off.

    For today's tv you will have to go get a converter box to make the tv operate. Since that tv was made everything is now digital thus the need for a converter box. In the OKC area you probably have eighty to ninety stations. In the Dallas area we have one hundred thirteen channels. Something you don't get on most cable/dish systems on the antenna PBS has four channels. Most pay tv still just shows one.

    First turn off your hose to the RV the pipes can not handle city pressurer. You need a RV city water pressure regulator. It will blow out your water pipe valve. Second fix your ⛽ leak ASAP. I know tons about motorhomes as I am a RV technician. . The generator will cut off when your gas tank falls to 1/4 a tank. Check the breaker's for the generator. The fridge can run off 110 or propane. You need to have your RV level for the fridge to properly work. Also consider switching all the lights to LED. 2700 is a great deal you can easily get 8000 - 20,000 for her a good median price is around 14k. If you sell it. list it for 20k let them talk you down to 14k. No less. Good luck Randy

    The awning has 2 latches up on top that need to be released before the awning can be extended. It also has those lower latches on the legs and plastic handled lock bolts that have to be loosened before use. There should be a rod with a hook on it to catch the fabric loop at the center of the awning to pull it out.

  • @gilharding2831
    @gilharding2831 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy. On the right side upper their is a little tab that you reach up with your tool. Should be in one of your storage bins. It is a just a long metal rod with a hook on it. Pull the tab down. This unlocks the roller. loosen up the knobs on the brackets. Do not take the legs off the side of the motor home. In the middle of the awning there should be a canvas loop that you grab with your hood tool. Pull this down the awning will pull towards you and down. Then you have to use on each standard a lever lift up and extend the awning out and up. Both sides. Your in business. Be careful if the wind comes up it will tear it right off the motorhome. Dometic awnings have a tutorial video you can watch.

  • @darrellhuisman1544

    You so scored. There should be a crank handle somewhere in one of the outside storage bins to Crank out the awning and if not it may be that you loosen the knobs on the up Rights and just pull it out BUT it may take two people to do that.. also when you plug it into an outlet the refrigerator should start working on AC . The roof AC may need to be upgraded to a larger size to be able to cool the back bedroom. And if you don't have a drain hose get one. Water hose needs to be an RV type hose there white and can be bought at Walmart along with the drain hose. Wish I could be so lucky to find a Deal like that I'm retiring first of next year and will be on a fixed income and I would live in it. ❤️ Your videos. Best wishes on your Journey.

Use the rod with L shaped end, hook in center strap and gently pull out.it is spring loaded. Once deployed at whatever angle you want, extend legs and reinstall c clamps.

    To turn the power on is usually under the front hood there should be a switch to turn for the generator and for the electric. You should see it as soon as you open the hood.
