When the wacky rig first became i thing it was destroying fish for me. The first 2 years was amazing. Now i don't get bit nearly as much. I think because everyone and their mother throws it. Now im back to my jig and the best part about big jigs, big bass.
Wacky has caught me my biggest bass 4-6lb range. I just started using the jig i really suck at it but i want to get better at it for sure. The jig bite is just sooooo good.
I’ve been crushing big ones on the Berkeley The General in Baby Bass color wacky rigged lately. I use clear heat shrink and a nail weight inside of the worm inside of the heat shrink to get the right fall rate.
If I want to use straight braid , no fc leader , can you recommend a color and type of braid to use? Reason why is I guess at suck at tying an alberta knot and allways seems to loose my connection at the knot with the braid to mono. If its really going to make a difference and I will catch more fish with a leader I will work on using it :) Awesome video
You can use a bright colo braid and just use a magic marker for the last 5+ feet on the line to the hook. BTW, you can get pretty good at tying leaders with practice. I tie a modified Alberto knot and it is super simple to tie after you practice. The only caveat for me is to keep the knot out of the reel at all times.
You keep your fish out of water a long time. Here in Ontario Canada, the Ministry of natural resources asks that we have them out of the water no more than 10 seconds.
I don't use any rings less stuff i have to buy the better, the more simple the rig the better. If it tears which is really rare like i mean 5-8 bass then maybe it starts tearing. Perks of being a bait maker i can cure my baits for 2-3 weeks and they will last 2-3x longer than any BIG bait manufacturer. I can also dial in the fall rate so i don't have to buy weighted wacky rig hooks i can just add the amount of salt i want and voila weight achieved. The big companies don't cure the baits hence why they tear so often and they want you to keep buying consistently from them. Support your local bait makers not conglomerate board members of a corporation. Also if you really want this plastic ring thing he is talking about just find a pen in your house and take the spring out and screw the spring into the middle of the worm and hook your wacky hook through that and voila i just saved you money, your welcome.

Yes my friend, they adjust. You need to hand tie some horse hair to both ends of ur wacky rig. Don't ask me why but it works like a charrrrmmm 😉
BTW, thank you so much for speaking at our bass club New Horizons. You provided a wealth of information.!
what size vmc crossover ring 5 6 or 7 mm?
disgregard i see your answer below #6 work good for Senkos. Grab the VMC pliers for them as well.
I have all 3

Yup shrink tube!
where do you place the nail weight?
@@NJreellife I put it perpendicularly throw the heat shrink. The heat shrink helps hold it when skipping.
@@BenHolliday1 great, thanks for replying so quickly
Super video. Super cool topic and explanations of what and why!😊
Thanks!
What size VMC ring are you using for the 5.4" clout? Are you using the 6mm ring? Thanks for any help
5mm
What is the size of the O ring? They start at 4mm and go up.
6 for senkos
Thanks for the info, Nathan! You’re looking slimmer this year!
Thanks!

Recommend the Alberto knot and practicing that to be able to use a leader
Use a triple surgeons knot to join braid to leader. Easy.
Use the old rings, put two on and cross them over “X” then you hook under the Middle of the X the normal way! It works.
I use the same exact hook but with a baitcaster.
What happened to your Ranger Boat?
I sold it to buy my new boat!

I mentioned the rod I use in the video with specs!

I just started using the VMC rings and have been using the #7s, but I’m losing a lot of worms. I’m gonna try the 6’s…
