  • How lures sound is an important part of bass fishing. Understanding the differences in sound and vibrations and knowing when to switch lures can make a big difference when bass fishing. Take a listen to see how these four different Chatterbaits (bladed jigs) sound underwater.

    The hydrophone could also shed light on how different materials sound when striking different bottoms or structure. For instance, what sounds and frequencies do tungsten or lead weights make on Sandy bottoms or against rock or wood? We often try to collide with structure on purpose to induce a reaction strike, so how could certain materials and lures help with that? You’ve really opened up a fascinating realm of study.

    Bass fish hearing lower hertz frequencies makes sense to me because they are adapted for perception in an aquatic environment. They need to hear low frequencies because I assume water carries more low frequencies. Water is thicker than air and low frequencies tend to not get absorbed as fast as high frequencies in denser materials. Water being thicker than air means more low frequencies would travel farther in water than high frequencies. Something else to consider would be water clarity, water composition (amount of salt and minerals or lack thereof), and water temperature would all affect the density of the water and thus the ability for the water to absorb frequencies.

    Hey Steve; can you use your new hydrophone toy to get a reading on the sounds that the various bait fish give out as they swim through the water?
    I ask because I've known for a long time that every living thing gives off a "Harmonic Resonance."
    I'm thinking (perhaps incorrectly) that if we could match the harmonic resonance given off by a particular bait fish to the harmonic resonance given off by a particular lure, that should make for a highly effective bass fishing combination.
    I'm surprised that the fishing lure manufactures haven't already done this kind of testing.

    Greetings from Tennessee. Now that you have the hydrophone are you going to do a show on crankbaits? While yes I understand there are about 10,000 different crankbaits, perhaps you could do like four of the most popular flat side crankbaits normal shaped crankbaits and maybe jerk baits. Love your series especially when you do the ones on hallelujah handling blade flash and such. Keep up the good work and thank you.

    Once again, your videos are off the charts ! Others have already asked a few questions that I had, but one I'm curious about is what do these sounds mimic in nature, or are they just to get the attention of the bass ? In my home water, the cicadas are thick right now, and the Thunder Cricket sound seems to replicate a big juicy cicada fairly well. I wish I had a few TCs !!!
    I would love to hear sounds that occur naturally.

    I heared some differences in sound that the different CB make. The big blade (low and solid) on one side of the spectrum against the original cb ( high and brittle) on the other side of the spectrum, with the jackhammer and thundercricked between those opposites.
    But do i implement this into my bait Arsenal..... Nah. I guess i keep my jackhammers, Picassoos and Zman chatterbaits.

      ok I tried something with the existing blade.... I took a tiny brush and painted both sides carefully with black rubber paint and from whatvi can hear...whatva difference more of a thump than a click

    I’d like to see how far away someone talking normally can be heard from about a 3’ depth. I’d also like to see if a huge school of shad actually makes an audible sound like the Hydrowave Shad school sounds like. I’m wondering if those sounds on the Hydrowave are actually real recordings or a man made scam.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors The trolling motor a much lower hum and a wound up boat is annoying too just because we’ve all been under water a time or two at the lake to hear that from far away! I guess the bass have grown up for generations with that sound to cope with. Interesting! Thanks again and looking forward to more videos!

    Question: we can only hear these lures with our ears. Meaning how the lure sounds to us. But who cares? I want to know how it sounds to a bass.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

      I am working on some content that would use some low pass filters to potentially match more what the researcher from Kentucky felt was the ideal hertz range that the most bass responded too. Far from perfect, but will hopefully learn something from it.
