  • Sharing my thoughts on our new PB600 Level Red Winch cat, after putting over 1200 hours on it over the season (shared with another operator). There is some footage of the cat working, towards the end of the video.
    I really enjoyed the machine, we had no problems with it for its first season, it’s been amazing. Looking forward to next winter!
    Great joystick, epic stereo, awesome climbing and pushing ability, comfortable and good overall visibility for the operator. And very simple to operate, including the winch, which is, in my opinion, the best overall winch system on a snowcat. The whole package makes every job easier and every shift more pleasant.

    This was so insightful for someone building a radio control 600. Modifying a Dickie Toys PB 600 to have full blade and tiller function on a budget (Not one of those crazy 5k euro kits by Pistenking, I just want to play in the snow haha).

      Yep, there’s winch-cats and free-cats (no winch). Free-cats are pretty capable but if you want to be efficient on steep terrain you need a winch or 2.

    Great video! That reel out is super smart! I remember being around a Timberjack Log Skidder and I know that is not the same machine by a long shot, and the winch on it is vastly stronger, but it was 100 pounds of pressure to pull out the line - I was young and could barely move it lol....

    • @pushnpow
      @pushnpow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah logging machines definitely require a stronger rope and winch system. My friend owns a logging company which runs a couple of tethered falling machines and they require an entire excavator-based winch-machine to tether to. I would love to have a go in them but I’d have to dedicate a summer or 2 learning the falling machine first.

      A lot of resorts in Western Europe still buy their machines with a yoke for steering. They’re bloody horrible compared to sticks, don’t know why anyone would buy them today.

    Awesome machine.!! Thank you.
    From what I see on the quick view of the broken stirrup, I wouldn't blame it on the steel or the bend in it. I would sooner say somebody ran that winch cable in too tight and the force from the 10k lb winch cracked it. A bungee cord would work and then the winch wouldn't be brought up too tight.
    Just a thought.

    • @pushnpow
      @pushnpow  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s an interesting thought, but if the winch was brought in that tight one or two of the rope clamps would have to run through the pulleys on the end of the boom, which would destroy the pulleys. It’s not possible to put force on that bracket from the winch without doing serious damage to the pulleys and clamps first.

      Either apply and hope for the best or start off snowmaking. Sometimes just knowing the right person will get you a job. I was just lucky with an application a few years ago. It is quite a difficult job to get into as there’s only so many mountains around and a lot of staff do it every year. Never hurts to try though. Thanks for watching!

    • @pushnpow

      I am not a mechanic unfortunately, but I think the pressure drop could be due to a worn out hydraulic solenoids or maybe the hydraulic ram/s itself needs a new set of seals. As the 400 gets older they all start to get blade-drop eventually.
