As a dispatcher myself, let me just say that the dispatcher who handled this incident was shit-hot fabulous - a credit to the profession, and with officer safety at the forefront of her mind during every second. God bless her and the CPD.
Amen to that. With so much going on in multiple locations around the building and so many different services involved, (police, fire, EMS, SWAT) she did an incredible job of letting everyone know what was going on at all times as well as continuing to check back with the injured officer. Her voice was clear, strong, and above all, calm. That makes a huge difference to the officers because it gives them assurance that at least someone knows what is going on as a whole and that person is not only giving them directions but is trying to protect them from the shooter by telling them where NOT to go.
A lot of people don't realize the stress dispatchers go through. I work on CAD software and I work with dispatchers every day. Just because you aren't a first responder doesn't mean you don't feel the same stress and trauma that the first responders do. In fact in many ways it's worse because as a dispatcher you don't have a lot of control over the situation, yet you are completely involved with the situation. Many dispatchers suffer from PTSD as well because of this. It's not an easy job and many times it's a thankless job.
Believe it or not this shooter in this video used to work at my work. He had shot 4 people in indianapolis stole a truck from Ryder truck rentals and then took off back to Chicago. He was an active suspect followed from indiana to Chicago. Crazy thing was he made threats to shoot everyone at our work the day he was fired from his job.
He was a homicide suspect from a suburb of chicago. CPD went there to apprehend him. As they approached, the dude opened fire on the police. Shot two officers, one of the officers being a captain. No officers died. Theyre back on duty. Bad guy, unfortunately, wasnt as lucky. 'Unfortunately'.
Thanks for the info. I was really worried about the officers especially after the second one was shot. I wanted to be sure that no one else was hurt. Did SWAT ever show up or the did the "regular" guys end up taking care of it?
was the Chicago police office who was shot taken to the hospital by Chicago fire department ambulance did he make it yes or no on the way to the hospital

Hats off to these CPD dispatchers. That was an excellent job on their part to send you units and clear the radio traffic.
I listen to this dispatcher every weekday on scanner. She is awesome. I love it.
when she partnered with Carlos they were the BEST. almost as good as my dispatcher on zone 2 when I worked the jets. Life savers. Truly.
the lady dispatcher was awesome

For some SICK reason you WANT a police state!
Do you have children?
t4705mb6 What's wrong with a police state? Protection from idiotic thugs sounds pretty good to me. Not to mention I love cops, and they love me.

You should post the one with 9 different shootings in a row around 2017 ? 2018 ?
Back in 2018
Just heartbreaking to hear....Thank God this wasn’t much worse. I’ll never understand the level of violence
I wish it were possible to know what was going on. How did this start? Also who was shooting and was there only one?
