I knew someone who I went to school with who was an active Latin king. I last saw him when we graduated and the last thing he said to me was “you’re gonna see me on tv one day, stay safe bro I’ll see you” 5 weeks later he was shot in the face and died by a rival gang. Sure enough it was on the morning news. It’s sad, he left behind his girlfriend and his 1 year old boy. It’s very unfortunate he didn’t stop even after having a child, we all just want to live peacefully day by day.

My dad is a (nearly retired) Chicago cop and he said there were guys throwing gang signs during the Mexican independence parade. He told them “you can do whatever you want, just no gang signs” and they respected him. Nowadays, there’s too much animosity and morals have left the street scene so that would never fly.

We wouldn't tolerate theft of street vendors in the barangay phillipines we should have our own security for them that stay with them whenever they post up. If you are not a paying customer you get interrogated or beat until you leave or dropped off to the local gang and tell them they robbed they fam the elotero man. Have a rammer drag u up n down 55. Growing up in California, gang life culture is everywhere and it’s so easy to get wrapped up in it as a child and many of my close friends were involved in that lifestyle and I can 100% say I only didn’t completely go down that path because my parents were around and they were a little strict, they needed to know where I was at and who I was with, if I was staying the night somewhere, they needed to know or meet their parents so I can without a doubt say having parents especially a father in the household is so important. I also was encouraged and loved playing sports so that also helped.

Tommy, thanks for putting yourself out there to bring us this content. Watching this video brought back some not so happy memories. I grew up in the same neighborhood as the young men in the video, many times dodging bullets on the way to school and/or the walk back home. Education was the way out of that place for me and now I would say I live a privileged lifestyle in the western burbs of Chicago. I think what most people don’t understand is that sometimes you truly don’t have a choice and to survive you have to associate with “clicks”. But as far as getting robbed, you don’t run a business on the side of the street in a “hood” “favela” “barrio” and expect not to be robbed at some point. Regardless of what “race” the gangster is. They run from their country to escape violence and poverty just to come to another dangerous country with violence and poverty. The violence is just less extreme in most states here as it can get in central and South America. But being racist towards your other people because of a language/culture barrier won’t help.

The traffic was beyond insane, but the amount of people out celebrating their heritage was even crazier. 99% of it was people just playing music, singing, dancing, fireworks, and a general good time. The Latin Kings were founded in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago in 1954 by Ramon Santos as the Imperials, a Puerto Rican progress movement with the goal of overcoming racial discrimination. With the Latino community facing constant violence from Greek and Italian greaser gangs, the Imperials merged with various other Puerto Rican and Mexican street gangs to form the Latin Kings. They would later devolve, because Mexicans turned it into a criminal enterprise operating throughout the United States.

True. But on the eastcoast, the Latin Kings are still majority Puerto Rican. It was a Cuban, King Blood, that bought LKs to NYC in the late 1980s-early 90s, NY LKs we're strong up until the early 2010s, King Tone slowly killed the gang in NY. But go to areas like Cleveland, Buffalo, Rochester, parts of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida, you'll still see Puerto Rican Latin Kings.... Not only is most Chicago LKs mexican, but Chicago along with NYC is losing large numbers of Puerto Ricans

It's mad common. Not just in Chicago either. I mean, I'm from a small "City" literally right across the lake from Chi, called Benton Harbor and back when I was 14(I'm 29) we were carrying heat. I have little cousins who are 11, 14 and 10 who all 3 have heat and keep it with them pretty much whenever they leave their houses.

Our gov loves gangs- one more way to keep we the people divided to keep us fighting with one another while they expand their corruption. Fantastic mini doc, per usual, Tommy. I hope when the time comes the rival gangs will team up with one another to be temporary allies. Also Mexican Independence day is such a fun time to be in Chicago! My girlfriend and I were down there for it in 2022.

Oh please, blacks could easily not kill themselves over a few thousand dollars and the "pride" of running a block. Every city has a black crime problem, even cities with under 300k, it's always the same demographic.

..I’d agree, police racism towards black N browns created groups to protect they’re own community in LA.
CIA in the 80’s had a helping hand in creating Ms13 in the USA etc
