As someone who doesn't have a sewing room, I love watching tours of other peoples sewing rooms. Both for the practicle sewing aspects and for the decorating choices. You're friends board is amazing!

That Sewing Room is part library and museum! I used to be a fabric hoarder. A few years ago I came to terms with my abilities, which involves being more motivated in making, adding or even subtracting fasteners and accessories from thrifted acquisitions than sewing. For painting the sewing room perhaps make one accent wall a jewel tone/saturated color. Use it to display much of the drawings, pins, framed prints and cards. For the rest of the walls...some kind of white. This is not as boring as it sounds there are multiple paint tones all grouped under the title "white". It is both amazing and scary.

I love how your board has all your friends and lovely memories on. Your sewing room is like a flipping TARDIS. Like, how did you fit so much stuff in there? It's a real mystery.
I've been mending clothes lately. It's getting easier with practice.

Re: Painting - as this is your shooting studio, I would suggest three walls in ivory or buff, and the wall you don't work against often gets a curtain track on the ceiling, so you can add a backdrop if needed.

Similarly, buying yarn and making project with yarn are two different sports!
It’s refreshing to see someone else who embraces having so much stuff in an organised fashion in a small space - my office is like this and people are always a bit surprised, but I’m so much more capable when surrounded by things I love!

Your sewing room looks very functional and attractive. Teal sounds good but to prevent the room from seeming dark you could just paint one wall teal and the others off-white. I did this in my study where one wall is blood red. Everyone loves it including me.

Especially if you're ok using a step stool in your room, you can free up floor space in by wall mounting shelves up high. I'm a big fan of shelves about 6.5 feet up because my fingertips can reach 7 feet. You could do a shelf up high across one or two walls and eliminate your bookshelf (or create more display space) while still maintaining walkability. I painted my craft room walls and ceiling navy blue, with same color slightly more glossy trim, and then put a metallic silver glaze on the ceiling. People say dark colors make rooms feel smaller, but a lot of times it makes the walls, and especially ceilings feel further away, if that makes sense. I started my dark ceiling adventure with a seal brown ceiling in my spouse's office and light grey walls that room looks like it is taller than the rest of the house when you're in it. You could put your dark teal on the ceiling and go with lighter walls!

I suggest a muted sage green. It will be a neutral background, a lighter color than brown, and non reactive.

Instead of flat white, tint it with green or blue. 😊
Unit of measurement for boxes, baskets, and large bags: toddlers. We've all seen pics/vids of toddlers pretending a box is a racecar or rollercoaster seat or whatever. So if a basket can comfortably hold 1 toddler, we can intuit the size. 😂
I'm still watching Adam Savage videos ❤

Your sewing room is like a library of your life! At least this part of your life!!!😊 You could always paint one wall dark teal and the rest a complementary white-esque shade…maybe 2 walls dark teal and 2 white??? Options abound! Watching Invasion, Foundation. Tried Marie Antoinette on PBS…not feeling it right now. Reading The Bookbinder about a young woman in Oxford during WWI who works at…you guessed it!…a book bindery. Great characters! Hope your day is good!!!!!

Late to the viewing party here, but thanks for the tour! Could you put a shelf around the top of the room for some of those mementos so you have room to expand? You could do a board that is 3”-4” deep and just wrap it around the walls 12” or so down from the ceiling. You could even put some sort of trim around the edge parallel to the ceiling so you can prop pictures and cards up on it and the won’t slip off. And some cork around the edge facing the room to pin things to it. Of course this would require a step stool and somehow cat-proofing it…

Well, Noelle, I honestly think the _only_ spot left to put your inspiration board stuff on is on the back of the door. My Aunt used to hang all her Christmas cards on the back of the front door. I always thought it was a great way to decorate that blank space. I suppose you could do that with your cards, or some other things. That was all I could think of, lol.
As for the color of the room... Gosh, that's even _toughter!_ A cream color, or even a pale peach color would look good, and the peach would reflect back and make your skin look awesome, but, lol, I feel like you're the kind of person who would say: "But Webber... Pastels???" I tried to imagine accent colors, but the room is so small that any wall you picked for that would still darken the room and reflect the color onto your work. If, say, you painted the wall behind the desk burgundy or something, it'd be lovely, but MAN it would be dark. But that's all I can think of.
But, hey, you have brown up right now and have been working with that for a while, so maybe a funky, jewel-tone accent wall would be fine. Whatever you choose to do, it'll make for a great reveal and I'll enjoy the vid. (I just hope you enjoy the change!)

Thank you for the thorough tour.
I admit I was focused on cleaning up a sudden spill in my own environment. If you're going to settle on leaving the wall its pale color, and the paint isn't damaged, you coul just not paint it?
I think if teal would help you feel wonderful, maybe there is some sort of teal-based compromise?
what about if you painted, or papered, or covered the wall in teal, and had a curtain you could cover it up with? I realize that would make the room smaller, but, you could be with the color you loved.
I'm working on a gift exchange sewing project. I hope to send it to the person before the next video. If I succeed, I can talk more about it there.🙂

When we were children, my brother and I had dark painted rooms. His was teal and mine "English Rose" which basically meant "burgundy." The way I see it, you have four walls, which could equal four colors. Or, you could stick with a similar paint scheme as you have with the stripes and choose a lighter neutral color with the teal stripes. So many options. The only other thing I would consider, if you plan to change the artwork, would be some vertical storage options. Anything from some possible shelves to a hanging pot rack could be interesting. Bolts of fabric on a pot rack? Maybe?

I love your room. I'm sort of jealous with the fact that most of your room is just sewing! Mine is sewing, crafts, office, library! Too much stuff! Fabric storage is the bane of everyone's life! I have a few things on roles that are such a pain.
As I was just reminding my daughter I'm horrible at colour and decorations. I paint the walls white or off white that way my art collection doesn't clash with the walls! All that to say I have no idea what colour would be nice on your walls. Though it does seem like a lot of work when you like what is there.
Right now I'm helping one of the kids make a cape for a young sister. They had some lessons earlier this month so now it's pattern layouts and instructions. It's fun seeing the not as the project nears completion.
Oh I'm also going through my sewing books reorganizing and maybe finding ones that can go to make room for new! Should do that with fabric too but I don't want too!

Great tour, but as someone who is still working on organizing all my sh... stuff, you give me goals, especially since I'm using my living room because there is no other room I can use. (I hate apartment life.)
So about redecorating. After 10 years of living with someone else's color palette, it's more than time for a change. But before you decide, I suggest getting some paint samples (actual paint, not chips) in a bunch of colors to see which will work best in the room. I suggest soft pale colors, such as yellow, pink, blue, teal, or whatever color you like. Any pale pastel color would work and wouldn't change the color of the light to drastically. Someone else suggested an accent wall in a darker color. As long as it wouldn't change the way it reflects light, that would be cool. It's more than time to put your own stamp on the room. So do what makes you feel good. Paint samples are good for making sure any colors you choose will play well together.

I must say your sewing room is very organized. I have a tiny room in my house that was always referred to as the office, but I turned it into a sewing room. You have given me some ideas for my tiny little room. I think my room would be a good walk in closet BUT they sold this house as a 4 bedroom, hahaha. Do you live in California?? I have heard you talk about going to cities here and I wondered if you are a fellow Californian. I live in the Central Valley, in a town called Merced. I never heard of it until my husband brought me here 31 years ago. I lived in Los Angeles, actually Santa Fe Springs, but if you are familiar with LA there are many, many areas. I hadn't gone to LA in many years and then I watched your video of you going fabric shopping in the Fashion District so I went to check it out. It is about 4 or 5 hours south of where I live. I had a lot of fun with my sister-in-law going into each fabric store picking out some fabrics to take home. Joann's is expensive unless you catch a sale. I enjoy your videos, I always learn something every time I watch one! Thank you. I appreciate all your hard work putting up videos on TH-cam. I would love it if you would teach how to make a sloper. I know that The Closet Historian has one but I get lost trying to make one as she makes one. I love her by the way as well. I also watch Rachel Makesy. Take Care. Elisa. Oh, my kitchen is painted Chartreuse, I love it! It brightens up the kitchen so much! Go for it! I got the paint from Sherwin-Williams

The friend board is my fave! I’d like a light and airy sewing room personally. Maybe a pastel version of a favors color ? Maybe color correct with led light bulbs, like get the bluer white bulbs to balance pale yellow walls?
I just finished sewing the buttons on a hand knit cardigan about 6 years in the making! Also working on an adjustable brown linen pleated skirt. I’m reading Murder in G Major by Alexia Gordon - I just started but I’m loving it so far and it’s going to be a movie

Why not do teal? Do some tests, maybe do a semi-gloss paint so it bounces light. You can keep the white furniture, too, if that makes you happy, and that'll bounce light, too...hang a white sheer curtain in front of the blinds...? Have fun with it! Or do just an accent wall teal, if you think the whole room being teal is too much. It should be a room that feels good to you, I think.
Lovely room as it is. I love places that have character and personality.
I just finished the set of 8 books so I'm not sure what I'll listen to next but it was a good set. I am sure I'll listen to more of the series.
A friend of mine got my cat a scratcher with a ball run in the bottom. I've been laying on the ground and playing with it with him and he seems to appreciate it (I get cuddle time later). He also wants me to go to bed now so he can get his snuggle time, so I'll leave this at that.

  • @Angela-hn6mb

You could do the dark teal paint as an accent wall with white on the other walls. That way most of your filming background will be bright, but you still get the joy of seeing the dark teal.

I really like white, dark color wood, and light, minty green. Green and dark wood always looks amazing with tatami... but I've always liked light green colors. I can't do forest greens and the like because it's just took dark. Light green is my happy place.
Lately, I've been trying to read more, specifically old Japanese literature, translated into English, that were very instrumental in us today knowing about what history was like during the time the literature was written... (that was super vague) It's literature from 1000 years ago. Of course, the English translation doesn't say everything, and so I'm slogging through a book written in Japanese on court rituals and politics from 1000 years ago. It takes forever to get through it, but it's very fascinating stuff.

If you did the yummy teal can you add more lighting to brighten it up? Or make sure everything that can be is white? Also... caveat I am a magpie... I found a glitter additive to paint. I didn't want a glitter wall but my room has two windows that are either covered by our backyard patio or our greenhouse so I don't get a lot of direct light. So the glitter to the green walls in my room helped to brighten it and the fuschia on the long wall helps brighten it up. I totally get the CAD setup. I had to work with my hubby to do the same thing as my room has limited configurations that would work and make me happy. I envy your wall o' stuff!

Just ordered one of the Ahsoka patches for a friend who participates in our local SW reenactment group. She has a jacket with a patch collection, and that is *perfect*!
Reading the first surprise novel from Sanderson, Tress of the Emerald Sea, and it is so beautiful. It makes me think of Neil Gaiman and Stardust, but more cohesive (since that was written as a magazine serial).
For the walls, what about the dark teal on the window wall and the door/closet wall? Then the other two opposing walls white? Maybe a metallic finish on the teal walls for some light reflection instead of sucking up the light on a flat finish...? Maybe I've been painting too many drop spindles lately. LOL. Or some custom wallpaper from Spoonflower...? Now that would be something!

    • @Costuming_Drama
      @Costuming_Drama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mmm not quite. Stardust wasn’t originally in a magazine, it was released by itself in 4 parts, although tags was never the intention so I’m not sure why you don’t think it was cohesive. From Wikipedia:
Initially, Stardust was released in 1997 as a prestige format four-issue comic mini-series. Stardust came out once a month in a square-bound, high-gloss booklet with high grade paper, high quality color and no advertisements.
Gaiman and Vess originally intended the story to be released complete, as a single book, which would better reproduce the painted illustrations of Vess and be a "story book" for all ages, and a release in this format was made in 1998.
I’m a bit of a Neil fan, and I’ve met him several dozen times. I even attended the premiere of the stardust movie.

    • @horsenroundstudio
      @horsenroundstudio ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Costuming_Drama Oh, I'm not saying it's bad. It's just pretty different from the movie. I very much love Neil and all his work. He's a wonderful person in addition to being an excellent writer and organizer of talent. And Sanderson's book follows the same language and character patterns. IMHO.

I have rolls of cotton and linen fabric for painting (between 2.10m and 1.60 long, which is their width) and my solution is to hang them on shelf supports high up in the room, out of the way, but very easy to access, and most importantly, where I can see them. They used to stand in a corner of the room and would fall over or get leaned on by big stretched canvases and they were a big nuisance every time I need to get to the stretched canvases. Up on their supports, they are safe and sound. Oh and I am green with envy at your so well-equipped and so well-organised sewing room. I have a sewing corner that works well for me, but looks so puny compared to your set-up. Great fun watching the tour. Thank you.

A school district I worked in had an unbreakable policy of naming things after ONLY dead people. Before the naming they had professionals investigate the lives of the persons nominated so they would not put signage all over a building/maps/materials and then have something come out of the woodwork that would make them "problematic". They have even gone so far as to turn down lottsa money in "grants" (bribes) to name things after some living (people who seemed fine, actually) person. It seems stupid to some, but so far it has worked. But, I, too, buy and hang living artists.

    • @emmakane6848
      @emmakane6848 ปีที่แล้ว

I think hanging art from living artists in your private home is fundamentally different than naming a place/hallway where members of the public can walk through and see it. This policy is very interesting to me though. Especially as a Jewish person, because it is technically not okay for members of the religion to name children after living people. Which makes me wonder if its only about wanting to protect their reputation if that person does something they wouldn’t want to endorse.

So I then mixed a shedload of holo glitter into a small amount of purple paint and used that for my cornicing. I'm not sure it looks *good* to have it dark against the brilliant white walls and ceiling, but it brings me joy for it to be a colour I love and that sparkles 😬

I am voting for teal! You could maybe do paneling/wainscoting halfway up the walls that's white or a lighter color, and then a dark teal on the top half. Or vice versa. I think if you have enough white or lighter colored things in the room then a darker color might not make it so visually dark... plus you can get more filming lights (or decorative lights) if needed

My bedroom is painted a teal color and I love it’s look. However, it is very dark at night which makes for poor filming and hand sewing is out until the morning light comes through my four windows facing east and south. So if you choose teal (which would be cool) just know what you’re getting into.

Well, I haven’t bought one in like 20 years, but I do always recommend a janome or a bernina. I would go to your local sewing machine person and tell them your budget and also always ask if they do trade-ins! Sometimes they give you a lot more than you’d think for your old machine! Just tell them you want a workhorse. I also tend to go with simple machines that are heavier and made well, over lighter machines that have lots of computers (she says as she has a space ship sitting on her table. Honestly I only use like 4 stitches…)

I feel like with the amount of stuff in your room (no shame I'm the same) that painting it white would make it stand out more while a colored wall will tie all the different stuff together better. Also filming against white with your light skin tone there wont be as much contrast. (sorry to be that random stranger on the internet to dump random advice on you lol)

Thanks for the tour of your sewing room. To paint or not to paint, that is the question.... I personally think white paint is our friend because you can accessorize with whatever colors you choose and it's easy to paint over should you need to. As for your room, if the paint is in good shape, I would leave it. You could always simply paint over the chartreuse accent color that you think is problematic. Or, if you feel like moving everything to paint your room and redecorate, go for it. Personally, I am a fan of the Magna Carta as it began and evolved and of its descendant, our Bill of Rights, which, as you undoubtedly know, are the first 10 amendments of our Constitution. IThe first of these is particularly important because it guarantees freedoms that include the right to state and hold our own opinions. Despite the current view that such rights only apply to a "select few," I believe those rights apply to ALL. So, I really don't care what JKR's current opinions are because they are hers and she has a right to have them. I have my own, as is my right. I'm not going to let anyone's current opinions affect my enjoyment of works written long before such opinions were "aired." I'm currently reading "The Heist" by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg and "Mastering the Art of French Murder" by Colleen Cambridge; the jury--in my head--is still out in regard to both. Hope all the cats, as well as you and your husband are doing well.

Sigh. It’s not about her rights to state her opinions, and you probably know that. It’s about how she spends MILLIONS of the dollars we give her by buying her works over and over again to pay for legislation to get passed to harm trans people. I will no longer contribute to her efforts by giving her money.
I also know actual trans people that she has PERSONALLY harmed, through direct interactions and so I show the grace to the people who don’t even want to look at her works by giving them a warning that the video contains these items. That’s the LEAST I can do for them. If you don’t like that I prefer to issue warnings, you don’t need to watch these videos. I’m not telling you that you have to hate her works, I sure dont. I have a tattoo of hogwarts all over my shoulder, but I will tell you that if you want to watch my videos, you will be subject to me giving grace and warning to people about it and your opinion will not change that.
