Can I just say that I super appreciate seeing someone else out there who is massively productive only once the sun goes down? Like, it's actually quite encouraging to me that you are unapologetically nocturnal and make it work for you.
Also, That shot purple/pink silk that you made the sash out of? MMMMMM, so deliciously pretty!!!

I am new to costume making, but old to sewing. My Mom said I've been sewing since I could hold the thread up and say 'Fred it please Mommy'. My daughter got me into costuming to help her with her costumes for NDK, their group is Costume Ninjas. Back in 2018 She talked me into going with her to a conference in Denver and said 'Mom you should make yourself a costume'. So I did! I called it a Peasant Wise Women costume. It was inspired by a character in 'The Land' book series by Aleron Kong, Father of America LitRpg. This year I was intrigued by Bernidette Banner thus leading me to you. I would really like to learn how to make stays and corsets for more mature and voluptuous ladies.

Okay, so regarding both draping and fabric manipulation, I suggest looking into the work of Madam Gres. She did incredible work in those areas.
The Yellow Night Dress book reminds me of a written version of what Abby does with the acquisitions for her collection that she shares on her channel.
Your dino-basket-handbags are super cute. :)
Your pattern weights flooping about everywhere seems to bug you. May I suggest a dollar store style mini-basket?

Those lightbulb safety pins make great stitch markers for knitting or crochet. They're particularly great because they're cheap and easy to interchange charms onto to distinguish which marker marks your beginning of round when knitting in the round. I know you got a blanket kit at some point (stitch markers can help you keep track of repeats, even if the pattern doesn't tell you they're necessary)... so maybe you'll get back into knitting and progress to making knitted accessories for your period outfits or knitted/crocheted accents depending on the time period. I know my gran had crocheted collars from her mom... so 1920s or earlier.

The last video and this one motivated me to go through my own things -craft, clothing and general thing owned- to help clean out my tiny house. I feel like we are body-doubling or buddy-systeming though the things on the list. I love these chaos blogs for that because it feels like shared time with a crafty friend who appreciates doing the other things that aren't a project.
Dupioni is one of my favourite fabrics. I will hear no comments on how I shouldn't use it for what time frame.

In the knitting community, we have a "thing" called Finish It February, where you pull out your UFOs and work on them (or decide you're not going to finish them and you're now allowed to use that yarn for something else). It's not something that I personally have ever felt compelled to do, but a lot of people enjoy it and find it very productive. I don't know what it is about February, though.

My dad is a builder so when he saw all the little gadgets and gizmos I needed for sewing he got me this amazing chest of tiny drawers that are designed for nails and screws, and a small carryable drawer box which made life so much better
so the box is what I need most of the time but the scary tool box is sorted out so I don't lose things like buttons
and for things like boning etc that comes on a roll, I use a dowel rod that you can twist and it makes longer that i keep them on, you know the ones people use as shoe rails or to hang their shopping on in the car - it keeps things neat which for a sewing room is a miracle - well neater
have you ever seen the ellen terrys lady macbeth dress - john singer sargeant painted her in it, but they restored it so you can look at the fabric and the beetle wings just for lechery

Edit: Nuno Felting it’s called nuno felting. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I kept spelling it in ways that are so wrong. Anyway it’s the strange spiderweb layers with texture shapes and colors on her bodice, and, sleeves. The skirt I’m no help at all. But look at silk felting it’s fabric manipulation, fabric creation, and magic

This was exactly what I needed today. Just some chill time with Noelle after a long day. With checking things off and time lapses with fun music.
I am also in between big projects. Cleaned off my table, dusted out my sewing machine, did some knitting and sewed some french seams on my first ever french seam project (a sleeveless shift for historybounding) while watching this.
I also realised this week that I have come to a point (again) where my storage space for historical clothes is too small for all the things I have made. It feels like I don't make a lot, but the space it takes to storage all the things says otherwise. (It's not a lot-a lot, but relative to the space I have.)

Honestly, being able to boycott them is absolutely a privilege. I manage to do it a lot of the time, but it takes a lot of money, time, and energy and I don't know that it's best spent on this.

That blue purple grey stripey fabric could be used for a Gilded Age dress

I mean, that’s everything from 1870-1900 which is basically 90% of what I make so yes, that was the plan 🤣. I just don’t know if I love it.

@@Costuming_Drama LOL well yes, but I was thinking of a certain dress from the HBO show. If you end up not wanting it, I could make it a good home ☺️

Thank you for another great video. Glad to hear you’re enjoying Discovery of Witches. I’m half way through Book of Life, the final book in the trilogy, and can definitely say that the books are far better than the series. The series is good but it’s focus is different and it is just not as rich in characters, descriptions, etc. it’s definitely twilight for adults but, as a medievalist and archaeologist, it’s caught me. The whole ancient manuscript was too interesting and is making me miss my paleography classes. If you want a slightly different but still fantasy meets medieval I can recommend Katherine Kurtz’s Deryni novels. Personally may move on to The Wheel of Time novels next as I’ve been watching the series and have a lot of questions. It also reminds me of the Deryni novels.
Will definitely be interested in your ventures into fabric manipulation. Was wondering if embroidery or beading would play a part in the effects? GoT had fantastic embroidery creating some of its costume illusions. Do embroidery machines allow for the addition of beads or sequins?

I did seam ripping & reconstructive piecework for a pocket whilst watching this.
I enjoy this series very much, and find it inspiring to do my own "round to it's" (which I picture as a circle with the words "to it" inside).... heh heh

I used to have a keychain that was a little circle of wood that said, “TO IT” on it!

I do like just spending time with you as you chat :)
Agree that the Discovery of Witches books are better than the TV series (I got annoyed with the second series because they mucked around with the sequence of events... and I've read/listened to the trilogy a few times). Take care! Cx

Productive week for you! I’m coming off night shifts so my sleep is even more messed up than usual and have to switch to early shift tomorrow for 2 days then back to nights next week, so foresee some zombie times and no sewing for the next week or two.
After 33 years of sewing experience, I’m just learning to sew knits. Which have always been a bit daunting and very much out of my comfort zone. Of course my first project used bamboo jersey, which is gorgeous, but not exactly a great option when you’ve never sewn knits before. But I’m very much a “throw myself into the deep end “ kind of person, so I’m sure it will work out fine. I’ve also just inherited an overlocker; again, something I’ve never used. Am watching lots of videos to learn and will probably try to book some lessons in the near future once I’m no longer in zombie mode

When I did the lessons most of it was experimenting. Buy different colours for all your threads so you can track them then run with scraps. Play with all the tensions see what happens if the needle is too tight or too loose. Same with loopers. Also try different types and weight of fabric. Once you have played for a while start trying to balance your stitches. Mostly it just takes time and practice!
