    What a nice, light, well organised space to work in and such a lovely view. I completely get what your saying about lighting. I have a spare room that I could sew in, but I always seem to end up working at the kitchen table because the lighting is better.

    So peaceful and inviting!
    I finally moved my sewing out of the guestroom into the playroom/school room area and I am really enjoying the extra space and using the ping pong table as a cutting table. With a mat, of course. But it is huge and awesome, allowing me to lay out the whole length of fabric and all the pattern pieces at once to get the best layout. I had no idea when we got it for the kids it would turn out to be such an asset for me 😂.
    Love to see how you organize your supplies.

    • @cleow
      @cleow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes, what a great way to repurpose a ping pong table! A great tip for anyone who can find one second hand, too. 🤔

    • @nancyhurt7145
      @nancyhurt7145 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I, too use my ping pong table but mine sits on top of our pool table with blankets in between and 2 large mats on top. It’s the perfect height for cutting and doing large projects. One day, my grandson asked me if I knew there was a pool table underneath? He was older then, so I cleared it all off and the grandkids played that weekend with the newly found tables! But after that weekend, they’ve never wanted to play again. My tables quickly turned into sewing tables!

    • @ibelieveinpandas
      @ibelieveinpandas 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nancyhurt7145 Yesterday I was doing some hand-sewing, and I sat by the ping-pong table... you are right, the height is perfect, I hadn't thought of that. Even for hand-sewing, having the project closer to my eyes was very helpful.

    A tip I wanted to share, as I am working my daughter's wedding dress, is to bring your ironing board close to the sewing machine to help support the weight of the garment. I also used the dress form, keeping the skirt pinned to it and turning as I went so I could sew the hem without the fabric pulling weirdly.

    First of all, if you were a bird, you'd be an "Awesomer"! So organized. I'm a senior who is just starting to learn this stuff to add to my hobby interests. You're videos are organized, concise and informative. And I love your style and delivery. A few comments,... 70s is vintage? I feel so vintage. haha. And also, what a view out of the window. I wondered how hard it is to get anything done with a view like that to grab your attention and steal your thoughts. Lastly, thank you for sharing your ideas, techniques and insights. I'll keep watching because I learn from you and have confidence in your opinions and insight.

    • @cleow
      @cleow  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aww, thank you! You are an awesomer, too! And yes, they do say that 70's is vintage, which puts me in that category, too, believe it or not. 😆 And as for the view, well, I do try to take it in, especially in the mornings before I start my day, and the evenings before bed and it definitely grabs my thoughts. All in a good way, though!

    New subscriber for sure! I have the same ironing board which I love. And use as a work table, set perpendicular to my main sewing machine. I do quilting and home dec sewing, so I use the iron a lot. I’m OBSESSED with those carts and have been trying to decide which ones to get, especially while they’re on sale at Michael’s. You can resharpen scissors with aluminum foil. Really! For small scissors fold the foil into 2 or 3 layers. Then, just cut it several times. Not a perfect fix, but, it works good enough. For larger scissors use 4 or 5 layers.

    Just found you! I’ve been sewing for decades and it’s great to see a young sewist taking on interesting projects and appreciating good tools and fabric! I’m sure many more people will find you 😊. Question- what weight is you lightweight printer paper and where do you find it? I bought 18lb (vs. standard 20lb), but it feels virtually the same.

    I use a make-up brush to clean my machines too! Mine came free with a magazine. It's beautifully soft, and perfect for getting into all the nooks and crannies. I also have some of the Japanese poppy linen, in the orange colour. It's so beautiful isn't it! I haven't used it as I'm afraid I'll cut it out and realise the pattern is one way - despite me spending hours looking at it and I'm certain it isn't 😆

    I would swap the office area to the alcove place the sewing area in its place. Take the sofa out …(rest is good in other rooms) place the cutting area in its place. Switch the serger to take out as you needed it or add to the larger sewing table. My sewing space is limited to one room or else the others I live with wouldn’t like it. Sears Amazon for projectors …they have them.

    You may want to take a look at Whitney's video (her you tube channel is TomKat Stitchery) on sewing gifts she did a few days ago. She talked about projectors and patterns. She mentioned a class she took and the instructor was also going to give another class early December 2022 on pattern alterations for projector patterns. She also mentioned some specific equipment she was checking out as a low cost entry point into this process to see if it was something she wanted to do. Good luck in your search.

    Hello! Happy New Year.
    I just viewed your sewing room your (from two months ago) - thank you so much for sharing
    I am searching for an upholstered daybed, and am wondering if you have purchase info for the comfy hut trim looking day bed in your sewing room. Please let us know. And thanks again!

    • @cleow
      @cleow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, happy to share the details! I ordered from Wayfair. It was called the Jayden Twin Daybed when I ordered, but I noticed later the name changed to Tarkio Daybed. I think this is common with furniture manufacturers? Anyway, this link may work: www.wayfair.com/Red-Barrel-Studio®--Tarkio-Twin-Daybed-with-Trundle-X114417485-L17-K%7EW003306374.html?refid=PINTO49-W003306374_1001149842&PiID%5B%5D=1001149842&experiencetype=2&selectedvertical=4
      There are a few mixed reviews but I can tell you in my experience, it was a great buy! Wayfair replaces any defective parts and it is so sturdy. Great value for this shape. :) Best of luck finding the right daybed for your space!

      Thanks so much for subscribing, and for your kind words! 😊 Great questions, too--the foot and bobbin case came with the Bernina machine, but I do think they can be found online from some Bernina dealers. Definitely try an online search to see what pops up. Maybe eBay or Etsy? For the light I use, this is the model I have in silver: amzn.to/3GdHfVm but it may be out of stock. This looks like a very similar model in black: amzn.to/3YKfJFW

      I have very large rubber tubs. They are rectangular in shape. They hold a ton of fabric and I do have a listing in one long end and a side as to what type of fabric it contains. Such as linen, one for knits and what type, wovens, an silky fabrics to include silk, and heavier fabrics. Then there is my quilting…that is very organized in built in drawers and cabinets. Waxed canvas, oil cloth, canvas untaxed, etc. I appreciate your clean space. I, well I have never been a minimalist. I know where everything is and in which closet/room. It is only visible within my sewing room. It does take me a week to clean and oil all of my sewing machines. My oldest is 1882 and she works lovely. No offense but I am not sure I could function in your space…I’d get to obsessed about nothing out of place.
      I do love your videos and watching the clothes you make and your honest observations. Thank you for sharing.

    What is projector patterns???
    How does it work???

    • @cleow
      @cleow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Such a good question! I have zero experience with it but the basics are: you project the image of your pattern onto your fabric and cut directly from there, no paper pattern needed. This site has details: projectorsewing.com
      It looks out of my budget so I am still just browsing/checking it out! 😁
