Nicaraguensis has been a favorite of mine since I had a mating pair 30 years ago. In full mating color, the male was the most beautiful fish I've had. He got along with my Oscar, several large African cichlids, tinfoil barbs, and large silver dollars.

Mine is actually pretty aggressive. It is in with other South American Cichlids. Definitely the boss of the tank.

Hello friend, beautiful specimens, a question that enlightens me. Do you have your aquarium and what food do you give it?
-Tetra bits granules as regular foods
-Hikari gold sinking pellets as regular foods
-Tetra Rubin flakes once in week
-Tetra pro colour granules once in a week
-Frozen blood worms once in week
Gorgeous fish you have, do nicaraguans sift sand at all in the same way that Geos do? I've always liked frontosas but could never justify pulling the trigger, what about them appeal to you compared to the colorful specimens from South and Central America that you have?
I have 6 at the moment but want to reduce it to 1. Is yours the only one in the tank and if so how does it fare?
Hey when you just added your Nicaraguan with your geos did it chase them a lot I’m trying to make it work with mine just keeps chasing them ! It is still a juvenile i would say about 3” and a female
Yes it chased the geophagus but not much. It was trying to settle in new environment as it was looking for a territory but geophagus was not much bothered.
If you see my tank has lot of diversions and escaping corners from drift wood and rocks. So chasing is not so easy for long.
I also kept her in isolation for few days before adding to my tank.
Cichlid behavior changes according to the environment at some extent, depending on the habitat it came from last tank.
This is what I think just sharing my knowledge and experience, I'm not expert fish keeper still learning.
It's the best Ciclid fishbowl I've ever seen! The lighting is dreamy and bluish, what kind of lighting do you use?
Normal led tube light which I got with my aquarium, it has 3 modes, one of which is whitish blue. And I also have heavy dark blue curtain behind the tank

I am also a Geophagus cichlid tank, and I saw your video and bought 8 nicaragua cichlid, but I have a few friends who are more aggressive than I thought. Are males mainly aggressive? It is still a stage where we cannot distinguish between males and females. Please give me some advice.
@@chin58889 Nicaragua cichlids are more aggressive to each other than to other fishes in tank. I was advised to keep only 1 in the tank rather than pair or group. As I have rocks and driftwood in my tank so chasing other fishes was not that easy, they try but ignore after 2-3 times. Yes Nicaragua are a bit more aggressive than geophagus, but sometimes it also depends on the aquarium setup and tankmates.
I usually learn about the fish and consult other fish keepers before buying one if that will be suitable for the tank or not.
I'm just sharing you my experience, as I'm still learning about cichlids.
