- Aulonocranus dewindti & Callochromis macrops occur in intermediate habitats of Lake Tanganyika. I filmed these species in the south of the Lake in the vicinity of the village Kasanga. This film gives you an impression of how these species live in their natural habitat. Who the fellow-inhabitants are in their natural habitat. And even a glimpse into their nighttime lives, surrounded by predators. If you are not interested in these two species, there is still something for everyone. Or a challenge to identify the many inmates, even though I have already mentioned several. Or find beautiful examples of the intermediate habitat to set up your aquarium.
Or just enjoy this fascinating Cichlid world.
by far the best Tanganyika video I've ever seen
Thanks, Twas, appreciate your comment.
The diversity is amazing.
I had never heard of "scale eaters" before.
Amazing video, Thanks for sharing it with us !! :)
I am happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks
Hey Hans, can we expect some new Video from the northern Part of Lake Malawi?
Beautiful!
Thanks Chisa, more to come.
Awesome video
Thanks Stephen.
What a beautiful habitat, inhabitants of rocky, and sandy areas side by side. Also, don't be afraid to put plants in your Tanganyika tank. 😉
Hi Hans!
Your underwater research and images are spectacular. I really like these intermediate and cichlid habitats. That catfish that was on some male's nest in the night was really special.
The night has its charm and you can also see predators.
What camera do you have in your underwater case? I also see an illuminator and ttl flash?
Have a nice weekend
Hi Marco thanks for your compliment. Yep to get that catfish in such a way in front of your camera is a present. I do not have a special professional camera in my underwater housing, it's a Canon legria HD. And I do not use flashlights only a video light from Mangrove, the same brand as my underwater housing. And a small Lume Cube light for in the shallow rivers, Best regards.
@@cichlidsinthewild Thanks for the info Hans!
I must say that they are excellent shots, now I don't know this Canon model whether reflex or mirrorless or compact. I have a friend who also shoots macro or environmental videos and has a diving site in Anilao in the Philippines. He often spoke to me about the Orca torch brand lights and flashes. I also contacted the manufacturer and they are excellent products.
Marco the camera is just a video camera HF s27 yep I know the Orca torch but as I told you I used my lights from Mangrove the same as my underwater housing.
What an amazing video. Well done!
Thanks NYGOLD, more to come.

Dankjewel 👍
zeer mooie beelden Hans. Leuk om ons favoriete meer zo in beeld te zien!!
Dankjewel, ik heb er ook altijd met veel plezier gedoken en gesnorkeld.
in late eighties lots of fish came out of that compound. The owner quit because some health issues. So they say. Pretty brave to snorkel of the beach. So many crocodiles on the lake. I have never entered water on foot on the Lake Tanganyika They will attack in middle of the day.
Hi Charles yes a lot of fish came out of that area, it came from Toby's lodge and yes he had an accident and the export stopped. I have made quite some dives in the lake as well but have never encountered a crock even I looked sometimes for them to get them on video. The mainly occurs in the river deltas. best regards
