    Hi Bill, really interesting video. Have you ever looked into the locality differences in this species? I've always wondered why some get red bellies and blotchy black markings and others are a more solid gold and brighter blue heads with a solid black marking (line on female, spot on male). Just an observation I've made over the years and when you said your first pair were from Costa Rica I noticed the red belly on the female as that had been my guess that red bellys and irregular black markings = Costa Rica and solid golds/blues = Nicaragua. But I suppose the locality could be even smaller if you look at the Amphilophus species in the region.

      Hi Andrew, it’s not something I know too much about. The first pair are F1 from Costa Rica, the others I don’t know the location of, I got them from Pier aquatics in the UK. I gave the ones from Pier to Big Fish Lad who has featured them on his channel a lot.
      You just don’t see enough of them about with locations to make a judgement.

      @@BillsCichlidRoom Thanks Bill, they are such an under rated fish not just amazing colours but behaviour like you said with their nests, relationship with Dovii and I was reading about how they influence midas and convict populations too.

    Just subscribed, love the vids. Are you able to pls tell us the tank dimensions and stock levels in these tanks? Thanks again

    • @BillsCichlidRoom
      @BillsCichlidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrew, the tanks are 4 foot x 18” wide x 15” high. Most of the tanks are over stocked at the moment, growing young fish on. It’s the only problem if you get small fish of 2” in a group of 6 to grow on - when they get to 6” plus you start to run out of space.... I have only got 2/3 of the fish room set up at the moment - another 6 tanks to go when I need them.

      Great, thanks. I am just rebuilding a san juan, costa rica biotope with an 8 foot tank. Group of longis, two multis, two nics, and possibly a centrarchus if i can find some. Along with dithers, what are your thoughts on that kind of stocking? Would that work or do you think thats too much or could i add more? Like A Septemfasciatus. Thanks. Will watch more vids tonight

      @BillsCichlidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds good to me, I would love an 8 foot tank. Plenty of territories & hiding place should do it. I like the septs, the siquia would be good as well.

      @@BillsCichlidRoom that is great. Enjoying your other vids. Do you recommend any dithers like Poecilia or others? Or have suggestions as to where to get wild types?

    • @BillsCichlidRoom
      @BillsCichlidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew, I have success with Swordtails but i believe Mollies also come from this area, as to wild ones I’m not sure where has them at the moment, you could try Pier Aquatics in Wigan, Aqualife in Leybold or Whalf Aquatics in Matlock. Please let me know how you get on with your tank.

      @BillsCichlidRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nick, they can be aggressive, Big Fish Lad had a pair that terrorised his tank. I’ve never had problems with them, funny how they all have different personalities.
