  • This is a care guide and species profile on the Geophagus Tapajos. We discuss proper tank size and tank mates for the Rehead Tapajos, as well as the growth rate and water parameters recommended for these cichlids.
    Overall they are relatively peaceful for a cichlid and they stay a bit smaller than other Geophagus, making for a great fish to keep.

    Hi cichlid bros, nice video. Some of the geophagus get a beautiful marking on the body like dripping watercolor, especially balzanii. I remember seeing a tank with 10 or so geophagus suranemsis with long streamers that was amazing. At the moment I'm trying to get a culture of daphnia going continuously for live food for killifish. I'll do a video sometime...

    Ma fav fish of all time!
    Some time last year I bought a pair, teeny tiny 1in pair of Geophagus. I was super happy but... I never saw them. The larger they grew, the more reclusive and the more violent to each other. So, finally I took them to ma shop to ID them and... (tension) I was growing out two male geophagus altifrons 😲
    As pretty as they were, they got swapped for a pair of Redheads roughly the same size, about 3.5in.
    Around xmas I'm upgrading the tank and then, I'm getting more of them from the same batch. Until then, the two just keep on sifting 😁
    The end

      Wow, that’s wild. A lot of the geo species look similar when young, so I can kinda see how that would happen. I also have what I thought was a pellegrini, but might actually be a steindachneri. Anyway, thanks for watching and good luck with the redheads!

    Hi guys, great video as always, go to you guys a lot for inspiration and advice. Looking for advice now too. I have a 4ft 350 litre tank with Peacocks and Haps. I have a huge venustus that is now 9” and an eye biter at 8”, the peacocks are all in the 6” range and I feel they are now too big and need a bigger tank. I can’t go for bigger due to expense and space so was thinking to re home the Malawi and change for Tapajo and severum. Would the tank I have be ok long term for a group of tapajo and maybe a couple of severum? Keep up the good work 👍 Cheers Darren (UK 🇬🇧)

    Great and informative species profile video. I have a 55 gallon with sand substrate, manzanita wood and river rock with some swords and crypts planted between the rocks. My water runs around 6.8 pH with a gH of about 7-8 degrees. Its currently stocked with 8 red& blue Columbian tetras, 6 peppered corys and a 5 inch Angelfish. Could I add one male/female Red Head Tapajos as a centerpiece fish? Or two of the same sex? I wanted to stay away from a pair because of breeding aggression.

    Hi guys. I'm looking at getting some Geophagus Tapajos for my tank. I currently have severums and blue acaras. The tank has been setup for about a month and everything is pretty stable. I have grit as my substrate and you guys recommend sand and so do everyone else. Will grit be ok? The size of the grit is from 0.8-1.5mm. I would get sand but just can't afford to get a whole different substrate. Your help and opinion will be much appreciated.

    I have a 150G with two small Oscars and one small Bala Shark. I am looking for one more calm fish to place in this tank and keep the stocking low. Would a Geo Tapajos or Altifrons mix well with the Oscars? If not, what would you suggest? Blood Parrot maybe or a Severum?

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Severums are usually a good tank mate for oscars. A blood parrot would likely work too. I would say the altifrons would be a good option. Tapajos can work as long as they aren’t introduced too small. Oscars will definitely outgrow them and could cause issues down the line
