The consummate rock outfit: world class song composition matched with excellent musicianship, powerful vocal delivery, a matchless rhythm section; not one, but TWO great lead guitarists (Rotsey at 2:03-2:30 & Moginie at 3:34-4:06), and outstanding group performance. You don't get any better than this.
He didn't have to leave, he wanted to. From Wikipedia: After leaving the band, he started Wicked Weasel,[1] a direct marketing business specialising in micro bikinis. The company has built an international reputation for female swimwear and underwear. On 25 February 2016 (settlement scheduled for 24 March 2016) he sold all interests in Wicked Weasel and related entities. @@dalediamond I think his place in Midnight Oil was not simple to handle. Really a lot of work on bass and vocals. And don't forget the band's tourings in those days. This is a not a easy kind of life when you're on the road, this is a lot of pressure. Every person has a different health. Maybe it was too much for him after 6 or 7 years with the Oils. And the early years were surely less comfortables in tour than after their worldwide famous and sellable record "Diesel and Dust" on which the bass is played by Giffo for the last time. Shame he had to left.
This Montreal concert was broadcast live. At one point Garrett says "people at home don't realize how intense it is here in the club" That's the Oils live in a nutshell. INTENSE!!
Is the lyric “South Pacific [aircraft] carrier” or “carry on”? (1:03). I have always heard the first but I read it differently on a lyrics website. Great song and performance.
Australian s of the year. Free speech bravery and freedom. The cultural void between Australia and China is never more stark than listening to the oils.
Me brother is in the airforce. Anywho I was down living in Sydney and these guys were doing a show around the album with king of the mountain. We saw them twice that week. Peter finished a set and the lights went out. This blackfella basically carries Peter off the stage. When U have front men like Peter, doc, Chrissie and the sheer energy they show the punters. Why would ya want to listen to some weak arse rapper peado etc. ( pdiddy etc) or Axl. Me 2 cents
Deserves every one of those bucks. A legend and a man of true conviction. Had the stones to follow those convictions with the best of intentions, only to become a victim of the rotten, corrupt Australian political system.
The Oils in full flight was like a Freight Train going at full speed hauling 100 wagons - UNSTOPPABLE
Without doubt the best live band in history - a big call I know but if you have never seen them live, then you have no case!
Difficulty to refute!
there's also a band called AC/DC. if you saw them in the 70's.... just saying
Indisputable for anyone who' saw them live
ive seen them like 7 times and they are just as amazing every freaking time! The best without a doubt
Oils forever!!!
Love this version of Hercules!
Rob Hirst giving a master class on the drums- just amazing🥁
I find him rather one dimensional to be honest.
Who in your opinion is a good drummer, Ivan?
@@ivanjulian2532He’s perfect for midnight oil though and he plays with a great energy 😁
One of their best from one of the best.
Never gets old!
Most exciting live band of their generation.
Nope.
@@ivanjulian2532 absolutely. fucking hell what rubbish.
Great memories of this song and the force that was the Oils
Definitely in my Top 5 fave Oils songs !!!!!!
Pure Rock Energy. Greatest live band of their time.
So you must have not been there then. LOL. Who is YOUR Generation's "greatest live bunch of noisy bastards"?
"This is something I Will remenber " ....Thanks the OIls for ever !

Welcome back Oils!!!

id say as well as being great lead players both Rotsey and Moginie are brilliant rhythm players too
Great one ! Nice solid rock sound with Peter Gifford on bass/vox
Denis what's he been doing all this time ya think since he had to leave?

Nancy Dryden I thought he was ill that what lead him to leave in first place like original yellow wiggle ! Hahahha

Awesome! Thx for posting!
They were unbelievable as a live outfit - like AC/DC - the music was designed to be played live at a slightly faster pace. Unsurpassed as a live band.
Best Australian band
And easily one of the best in the world
@@Sean-me4fv agreed awesome energy and the strength of their lyrics about the worlds injustices
Angels were better 👍🏼
@Michael Halloway fair enough, i think they were both awesome 👍🏻
Angels were average compared to the Oils. dont even @@australien6611

Peter is not the best front man in rock, but he is unique, authentic, memorable and utterly electric when in full flight
when was this recorded?
1987
They are so relevant now!! Come on Peter Garrett, please do a album of current events 🤩🙏😷🎸🥁🎤
This song is like a frog in a sock.
who cares about a few word changes, not hercules
I'm gay and love these guys
You really mean happy
The big git is worth 10 million bucks. Australian money, of course... that's the funny part.
