- Midnight Oil perform 'The Dead Heart', live at Ellis Park, South Africa in 1994. Originally featured on the album 'Diesel and Dust'. Written by Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Peter Garrett.
Having steadfastly refused to play in South Africa whilst in the grip of apartheid, this concert is a celebration of the inauguration of Nelson Mandela in front of a packed Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg during 1994.

Executive producer Percy Van Rooijen

The intensity that very few live bands will reach... And provided with message of humanity that most bands lack totally. This band is forgotten and bit ignored but respectwd ever.
Kari Haajamo, do you know the lead singer who sang about giving aboriginies there land back, got some some political power behind him and sold the land to mining companies, the biggest hipocrite, he sold out all the aboriginies, total wanker of a lying man!! Listen to a real rock man called Jaz Coleman speak about the lead singer of midnight oil, Jaz speaks the truth mate
My favorite midnight’s song!!

Nein, dachte ich auch. Die sind nicht vergessen. Dazu sind sie viel zu gut. Zu all anderen was du gesagt hast stimme ich dir voll zu
They have just started touring again.
This song is an anthem for all the indigenous people of the world and all the true heroes who support our causes around the world ..thank you !
No one can sing and dance like Mr. Peter Garret 🎉🎉
My 4 year olds favourite song, he knows it word for word and has the best rhythm
Same here.... I decided, since they listen to all the cr*** these days, that every morning when I bring them to school I let them get to know some real music... Beds are burning, bullroarer, they all sings them buy heart. The kids are 6 and 10... My daughter asks: put on something from the bald man 🙂
WOW HE'LL BE IN A BAND LIKE THEIRS ONE DAY I BET!!
You just don't get bands like these anymore,, great emotional performance!
That's so true.. the really true original music is almost over
Go check out Bad//Dreems
That emotional response Carry’s over to the recorded version once you’ve felt it in a live performance!
I grew up listening to the Oilers in college in Hungary and in the USSR. I would love to meet Peter and the crew one day !
One of the best damn' bands with a message for humanity !
Hello, now that covid is over etc etc. An honest question for you and that is. Would you still like to meet him ? If so sure thing why not let's get that going. I'm in Australia born here travelled well within and Peter Garret and Rob Hirst are good for a meet and chat. Food for thought mate
PG dancing like no one's watching 😃👏👏
A true authenticity and musical energy that modern acts, being all pre-recorded and choreographed, simply lack
I play this whenever the politicians of the world piss me off wihh inevitable media overload (quite often these days). Watching Rob Hirst hit the perfect beat, all smiles and just living that moment lifts my spirit no end. I can now face the world again, tut loudly and wish I was back seemly Victorian era of communication. The 90's.
This drummer's snare sounds awesome !!!###
Ikr! I always look to a drummer, because without a great one, well.....🤷🏼♀️
Hirsty is an absolute weapon
Got my attention instantly, everything is focused around that drum, Such an interesting mix both studio and live.
This song still has relevance to this very day❤️🙏
like most, if not all, of the Oils work. Legends they are.
I love this !!
MIDNIGHT OIL !!
Moroccan fan.
I'm from Belgium and have been following him for over 30 years. the lyrics against the Australian minority .I hope he goes back into politics and continues to sing
after the Covid Scam , u still believe in politics to change things ? Naiveness to its finest & i am from belgium too but left that losers country for good .
thank you peter, I remember listening to my lp albums in my room in my youth and growing up to your band. I saw you twice and danced all night .. YOU made this 57 year old man happy and I think I am going to dance all by myself in my room while I still can the dead heart ok here i go do do do do do do do !!!!! what a memory
I love this man and his dedication for what he believes in
They just pop in My mind two days ago

@@jimzafiriou7808 love it, Same as actors aye, Sam Neil, he’s from Ausi, haha
@@jimzafiriou7808 wow never knew noiseworks was kiwi, cheers fellas
@@simplypodly haha they're not, they were formed in sydney by two Aussies and a kiwi who got Aussie citizenship in 1981
@@jimzafiriou7808 where did you get this list from?! Noiseworks and Crowded House are Aussie, and we've never claimed Split Enz as our own

love the Oils, and a fine video indeed. they sweat the details in terms of good sound on stage. hell yes!
Feliz de quem conhece essa banda ! Great!
Seemed like an awesome concert, wish I was there.
Musica que marcou muito a vida de muitos no final dos anos 80..Muito tocada nas rádios..Ipanema FM. PoA. Curtida por muitos surfistas da época.
This is prolly one of the most intense versions ever. Pure Gold!
No one gets more emotional and passionate then PG. He is off the charts. They broke the mold with him.
OMG!!!! Marvelous 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Minhas melhores lembranças da juventude estão nessa banda, o tempo passou, eles continuam certeiros.
Sim, podemos cantar, fazer política e consertar o mundo..
Just perfect!! Melody and lyrics are so touching!!! I always get inspired and love to feel and sing it..
the best band playing live ever...
🤔.
Man , dudes not human.
Commanding performance!
Intense
Way ahead of their time. What he sings is already happening. Lord Help Us.
Relevant & still cutting edge after 40 years
Very few bands can do politics and at the same time transcend politics and just be a great band. The Oils, Steve Earle, not many others. U2 on a good day (and I love U2 but they get pretty preachy on their politics -- The Oils just make you feel it and believe it.) Great performance.
The clash?
Hell yeah Charles . well said!
This shows that Rock is kicking ass world wide !!!!!
Fantastic 👏👏👏 thanks from Brazil 🇧🇷
Toujours super midnight oil

Grandissimi!
i'm always surprised Rob's arms don't come flying off when he's in full flight on the drums
You can tell that he loves working with Peter !!
Respect
Haven't been able to see them live, buy the music is something I love and remember from my childhood
Rockero como el ya no se ven x estos tiempos
