Age 18 in the US I first heard about The Oils from a college room mate. They were kind of an "underground" obscure antipodean thing back then, which to me made them only the more intriguing. So after graduation I flew to Australia and saw them and other Aussie bands of the 80s and became a true believer. It also should be a reminder that being eager to change things doesn't mean assuming it is possible to accomplish anything big without some negatives. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. I am not saying the lives lost were an acceptable cost, but I am saying failure to move forward through "paralysis through analysis" will get you nothing. You move forward with incomplete information and imperfect plans and hope for the best.

I love that early Aussie music era when the bands were all starting out to make a name for themselves...INXS, Icehouse, The Oils...it was set to be a great era for music...shame I was a kid in the UK and only heard of these bands in my later teens. I feel I missed out on so much else going on in the world.

That was a fantastic day, I was 19 and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to and it was free. There was no agro, everyone was just having a great time no need for roided up security gaurds struttin' and intimidating and bashing people. I will remember that day till I cark it. Was just the best. We will never see an event like that ever again
I was there, a short walk from home. Off my face, yeah. Dry too.. parked the car at top the night before... one of those seen in the cam pan shots from stage, looking up the natural dune amphitheater. We could see the storm approaching across Bate Bay - pissed down for 10min or so. Good times... thank you 2JJ , thank you Oils'
