    NACA ducts do work backwards to create low pressure and essentially PULL air from inside a race car. It sounds a bit misleading the way you described it in your video made it sound like they cannot be used in reverse. Reversed they will pull air.

      Thanks for the feedback though, yeah it should've been clearer. I just don't like this idea being spread that there's something special about the shape, after all, when they're reversed they're just acting as a hole.

      Thanks! I use OBS for editing, used GIMP for any visuals and used iMovie for editing this. And then for anything 3D, I just used the game Automation

    Nascar may of been testing them backwards in the window to see if they were able to work in reverse pulling air out of the car instead of sucking it in. Especially if the vortex spin in the opposite direction. That way they don't need a fan to force the air out. I doubt there is enough of a pressure differential between the interior and exterior to make a difference with a passive outlet. Like the outlet grills they use over the front wheel wells in allot of race cars.
    Maybe, just a guess.🤔

      Obviously we can only take guesses unless we test it ourselves, but I think there would be quite a large pressure difference thanks to NASCAR using window nets which I’m assuming allows a lot of air get into the car.
      I don’t think a vortex would be produced going backwards because I think the pressure on the ramp of the duct would be quite low, air inside the car accelerating through the narrower hole before meeting air on the outside of the car. I think instead the rules only allowed NACA ducts to be used, so it was their only option. Likewise with fans, I think they’d fall under some sort of rule against moveable aerodynamics which I assume has been banned in all forms. I can’t think of ever seeing a fan on any stock car. Unfortunately the rulebook for NASCAR hasn’t been public, so we can never know.
      Just my 2 cents though, I’ll have to look into actually testing that some way. Appreciate the idea!

      You're right about the window. I forgot about that. I just checked out the clip you linked in the description. That guy said they tested them in the wind tunnel and, found out they did create low pressure when turned backward in the cabin which somehow sped up the car. They started putting multiple in each window, but NASCAR noticed, and shut them down. Wonder why they banned them? Maybe they have some rule about the car needing so much pressure inside. You would think it would help allot in keeping the driver cooler.

      They *did* function in the backwards orientation in the rear side windows in nascar, and this came to knowledge through wind-tunnel testing, and was confirmed. The laminar flow across the outside surface induced a low pressure zone that would basically vacuum the air out of the inside of the cockpit, thereby reducing drag. They worked so well in fact that NASCAR outlawed the backwards orientation anywhere on the car. Now they *must* have any naca ducts on those cars in the forward-facing orientation 👍

      @@_donpowers Do you know what else does exactly what you said? A hole. Which is what I said a NACA duct is when placed backwards. The shape itself does nothing special, just the fact there's a hole there sunken into the body so flow detaches over it and creates a low pressure region. Nowhere did the video say it somehow magically stopped air leaving the cockpit.

      There's not really a specific name for that shape as far as I know.

    Mercedes clk gtr had them
