    Animal was smart to sponsor a real athlete. I'm not a major power lifter myself but Dan Green is absolutely one of my favorites to watch on social media. Great video.

    Best bench press video for advanced lifters ever on TH-cam. I like how he teaches about leg drive creating accelerating to the chest. Other videos just say to use legs but don't highlight why like on here.

    I have to admit, that all my lifts (bench, squat, DL) had gone up just by watching some of these technique/tutorial videos. I have a each one of them added on my favorites that I watch frequently from time to time.
    So thanks for making these videos, and to all the Animal Athletes that took the time to share some advice!
    -Aloha

    These are really great tips. I always tuck my elbows in too much and no wonder I wasn't pressing much weight. I used Dan's tip on putting your elbows around the 8 and 4 o'clock and I feel so much more power. Thanks Animal!

    Dan Green has the best legs in powerlifting. Everyone knows that Dan Green dominates in the squat, he pulls insane weights with sumo, which is more leg dominant than conventional deadlift, and his leg drive on the bench (its legal in powerlifting) is clearly working great. Great work Dan and great work Animal

    I've been benching for years,and i thought i knew my stuff; but i learn a ton from Mr.Green, i felt like a noob, but in a good way.

      One of the biggest tips for me was bringing your elbows in while you bring the bar down. It was explained better in a video I saw earlier today, but this really helped with the shoulder issues I've been having. I worked with a little higher weight than I usually do for lower reaps and I did not have any shoulder issues at all while benching. I also feel the it more in my lats than I usually do.

      Watch Alan thrall's video on peg drive. It easily adds 10-20 lbs to my bench and makes all reps easier. Alan explains it the best, you just have to practice it 2 sessions or so and tu ou will have it

    • @JordanVezinaactual
      @JordanVezinaactual 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +freddyXDyeah Sometimes it's a tight quad or TFL. You're putting your hips into extension and if the TFL is overly tight it will cramp you up. Try some mobility work on that (foam roller/ lacrosse ball etc.) and then re-assess the bench press.

  • @perretlaurent6665

    Nice video so usefull ! When somebody comes in a gym he just thinks "Oh that's the bench press. I put the weight down then up" and he doesn't understand that this exercice is more than that. It's a long learning journey.
    Guys, what do you think of dips to increase the strenght for bench press ?

    • @PermanentHigh
      @PermanentHigh 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard they're very effective, especially the Vince Gironda style dips for the chest. Personally my bench has gone up from doing incline dumbbell chest flies and overhead pressing.

    His butt slightly raises off the bench during the concentric part of the lift which helps making the load easier to lift. I always keep my butt firmly planted on the bench should I try lifting my butt off the bench during heavier loads? Or would that be considered a 3 red light lift?

  • @racerx2580
    @racerx2580 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Also it's crazy how much bench is like a full body lift. Not hating on Dan's style or work but he seems to heave the bar off his upper gut or sternum. Even though he does, you can tell he's still getting tension and obviously a stimulus to his CNS.

    Hi Dan, just seeking your advice on dead, bench and squat in relation their muscle building capacity? Do they grow much actual muscle size and volume or is that more 8-12 reps stuff?

    • @Philo-ul2uq
      @Philo-ul2uq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jade Sperring 1. I'm not Dan. 2. They all build muscle as long as you lift heavy, rest and eat right. 3. Stick to 3x5 for squat and bench, 3x a week and deadlift 1x5 one time a week.

    • @MrDougfunny7
      @MrDougfunny7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Proper skull crushers go behind the head rather than to the forehead. Make sure you’re doing them properly. Or do with dumbbells.

    • @CyberdarkHellKaiser
      @CyberdarkHellKaiser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try doing them with dumbbells so they can go "through" your skull, and this is going to sound weird but don't be afraid to grab some of the girly dumbbells and spend most of your time doing skullcrushers as a "long warmup". I have the same problem, but doing a few dozen sets of a few dozen reps with small 15lb dumbbells has lubricated my elbow joints and cured the pain I felt while heavy benching

    • @CyberdarkHellKaiser
      @CyberdarkHellKaiser 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used to have to always wear elbow sleeves, they're retired now. If you feel your joints burn then you're doing it right

I currently train day 1 legs..day 2 chest and biceps..day 3 back and traps and day 4 shoulders and triceps...im wanting to get back in powerlifting 55 to 59 yr old masters...should I be training shoulder and triceps on the same day as bench?

    • @coachromigill
      @coachromigill 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would be better to keep shoulders on Day 4. Military Press as the main lift and then other accessories. When you do Shoulders and Tris after bench, you may not be able to lift as much weight as on it's own day.
      Test it out over two weeks and see which one feels better.
