Also, It's not necessary to take the entire kickstand mounting bracket off as it can be tricky to get back on. You just have to loosen the pivot bolt that holds the shifter on. Just loosen it about 3/8" of an inch and the filter will fit right in.
I took just the one bolt holding the shift lever and that's all it needed to get the oil filter off, there is a washer, grommet and bushing in there so I greased the shift linkage bushing while I had it off. My oil also still had a golden hue to it but my rule is 1500 miles or every 2 years which ever comes first. Thanks for making the video.
I don’t need to remove anything… I just remove the one bolt behind the side kick stand so I can get to the oil filter…. Saves a lot of time having to remove panels and you have enough room to do everything you need. The main drain plug doesn’t need anything removed to drain.. the rest is pretty simple. I use a oil extractor pump and insert directly into the sump and suck everything out… then fill it using a 1 quart measured in a plastic kitchen cup to 3 quarts and start it up…. Run for a minute and then I measure .5 quart exactly and top it off. Thought I’d check out how others do it! Good video!
The reason I hate those K&N filters is people use the nut for tightening when it’s exclusively for removal or poor access. One 1/4 turn past the seal touching the mating surface is all that’s required on any filter unless it says otherwise. That rubber seal acts like a nylok. It will not come loose on its own.
10:53 - DO remove that torx bolt holding the shift lever. Grease that bushing before you put it back together after the oil change. The shifter alignment is adjusted at the top of the bell crank, not at the shift lever mount. Move the lever forward out of the way. DO NOT REMOVE THE SIDE STAND SPRINGS. Notice that this video doesn't show the removal or replacement of those springs, as I'll bet they were a real pain in the rear end! INSTEAD, remove the front bolt holding the shift lever and side stand mount. LOOSEN the rear bolt just enough to move the shift lever and spring mount plate down, so the oil filter can clear it and be removed. Thread lock was used on my 2007 K1200S bolts. Ensure these bolts are properly torqued down.

So trying to learn as much as I can... a couple of questions, is that an OEM center stand and what/how did you attach the Top Box, is that an OEM too ? I have an FJR1300 back home in Aus and I must say it has superior storage compared to this one. Other than that I am liking this BMW a lot :)

Roger Forgues - these were the stock wheels. I’ve seen them on eBay from time to time. A lot of bmw models will fit so you might find something you like on the eBay site. And the blue really stands out for sure - great color combo on that bike. Happy riding!

Car drivers really notice the bike with these lights on for sure. No codes but it's on a relay wired directly to the battery. So only a little juice to trigger the relay. I had an 06 K1200R also. I prefer the S. Ride safe and thanks for the message!

The process just to change the oil and filter tedious on 1200. I'm glad they made it easier with the 1300. Unscrew drain plug, drain sump reservoir, remove filter that's it. Just put in new oil, install filter.
I just bought this same year all silver with yellow rims. Fortulnelly for me I really don't ride and I am putting it in the shop and have them do it since it needs a new radiator installed. Get 2 for one.
agreed, just silly tedious and poorly engineered. Jap bikes are a breeze in comparison. But you can buy these bikes dirt cheap, so i've had 3 of them. Lotta bike for the $ (if you can do your own work)
19:19 These lights on the bottom are dangerous at night. Once I almost crashed onto a biker with such lights. In a mirror it appeared like a far away car, so I changed the lane. Apparentlly, it was a motorbike riding just behind me with these confusing lights. If it was going much faster, it could be fatal for the biker. I apologised, but seriously, these lights are confusing when seen in the mirror, especially after dark.

If you don't have a centre stand getting that oil filter off can be a nightmare.
