    Excellent helpful articulate video one of the best that I have seen so far. Suggestion, when torquing the clutch plates in place, tighten the bolts by going to the OPPOSITE bolt each time rather than tightening in a clockwise or counter clockwise circular manner. This ensures an evenly tightened load on the clutch plates. Nice very helpful well paced video for a change, thank you.

    Good job at simplifying this job and explaining the process (steps), and the correct order, including the special crankcase position sensor and how that tool is used to keep the motor from spinning.

    AWESOME VIDEO !!!! How would I know if I might have to replace teh clutch basket as well ? What should I be loking for ?...... I was riding my bike 2007 K1200GT @ 77K miles in 6th gear. I got on the throttle and it rev;d to about 5k / 6k and the bike speed did not increase. Then, did not have any forward motion in any gear and slowed to a stop. With the enghine on or off, the bike rolls smoothly in any gear (no engagement) without clutch pulled in... The bike has been hard to find neutral lately as well..

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2007 K1200R (Australian delivered). Is this exactly the same procedure on my bike? I don't have any slipping or problems changing gear but there is an intermittent rattle in the clutch at idle and there is a harshness between 2,000 and 3,500 RPM that feels like it might be coming from the clutch. The bike has only done 30,000km/18,000 miles.

The gasket was perfect & I sisnt use any sealer when putting the cover back. No leaks. Tighten those bolts by hand until "tight". Dont do too tight. Clutch lasted until 145K when the lower cam chain guide disintegrated on the freeway. I'm in the middle of replacing it right now.

      @@GSXR1300X the only issues I've has with shifting into N was I had to bleed the clutch or the seals in the CV lurch master failed. The seals are the same as a KTM 13mm clutch master cylinder seals. Replace these / bleed the clutch "I used fork mineral oil" & it will shift smooth without a clunk into N.

    Do you know of a good source that shows a complete engine swap? I assume you have to do this clutch removal to remove the engine? Sorry for stupid questions, I’m not a gear head and certainly not a mechanic, just a bike commuter who loved his k1200s until the engine blew up despite regular dealer maintenance. Can’t afford to have them do the replacement.

    Hi there! really goos video!... i'd like to ask you a question; is it possible to do without the "locating pin" or is it indispensable? if it's possible, how would it be?... thx very much!... (keep posting!)

    • @alsmotorradbmw6510

      You have to lock the engine from turning, I recommend to use BMW tools but it should be possible to do this by sticking in a screwdriver into crankshaft position sensor hole or locking rear wheel from turning - do this only on your own risk!

    I have had my clutch replaced a few times already because of a very loud grinding/squeeking noise when rolling away 1st gear from a stop. They tell me to install the clutch of a K1300, but the costs are, let's say, significant. Are you familiar with the issue and do you know where it is coming from, and what to repair? The whole clutch is just newly installed for the second time and it still does it... Some say it's normal, but I don't believe that, for numerous reasons. I am just desperate for help on this one!!

    • @robplazzman6049
      @robplazzman6049 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick v.d. Hee Patrick. I replaced the clutch slave cylinder with one from Oberon, around £100. Much lighter feel and not so much juddering.
      Replace oil with 5w - 40w. I am now going to either clean the plates or install new ones as still a little judder and clunk into 1st from neutral.
      Really bad show from BMW. I have the K1200R Sport. To get value I will keep it one more year, then I’m going Japanese again (GSX1000F ?) as they are better designed, easier to work on at home and spares are expensive but not BMW expensive.

      @@robplazzman6049 Wow, I must be lucky that my '07 R-Sport went over 93K before the clutch basket locked me into 5th gear after a not-too-exceptionally-hard launch from a stop sign. Once I got the 5th, the clutch started slipping, huge amount of rattle rock-n-roll and then nothing. I gather since you posted two years ago that the R-Sport is no longer in your stable?!😉

      @@MauriceSimeoni Lol. Actually it is ! Barnett plates, 1300 oil feed, WP race rear shock, upgraded front shock. Clutch is still not as good as it should be but I will suffer it out until next summer. Once it gets going on a fast road it is a superb bike and does munch up the miles, but I expect better from the brand.

    Question. I have the purchased the exact same replacement clutch. The first plate that slides on is supposed to fit snuggly around the metal o-ring that sits at the bottom. The Original BMW plate fits, but the Barnnett clutch plate is too narrow to fit around the o-ring. Is this an design error, are you supposed to re-use the first plate from BMW? Or did I get a defective part?
