Not defending him at all but in many cases strikes should be called where the ball crosses the plate, not where it lands in the catcher's mitt. If you look at some of those calls, the ball crossed the plate in the strike zone over the plate but ended up out of the strike zone when it landed in the catcher's mitt. Likewise, there were some that did the opposite and were called strikes. But way too many egregious calls made by him that can't be defended.
They offered him a financial settlement to retire. Why didn’t they offer to settle when he sued them? MLB argued that his three blown calls in a playoff game cost him the World Series that year but they could have offered him a blank check to end it all.

His ball and strike calling was obviously terrible, but some of the calls like the check swings or a missing a tag on a steal are easy to criticize with the hindsight of instant replay. I just hope they never move to automated balls and strikes. Baseball is a human game, umpires are a part of the game and always should be. Sometimes if a catcher does a great job at framing a pitch, he steals a strike. It's part of the game. If a pitcher is hot and in the zone, he gets that borderline strike on the corner, it's part of the game. Keep baseball human.
I want to watch athletes put on an athletic show, not an umpire clown show. We can't do that if calls aren't fair, consistent, and impartial, and umps have proven they can't be any of those things. So I'm 100% in favour of robots calling balls and strikes. Let the players play and get the blue power hungry clowns out of the way.
My bigger issues with umpires is their ridiculous ejections which ruins the game for the thousands and thousands of fans (especially children) that might only get to go to 1 or 2 games per year and miss their favorite player play because the umpire was mad he said his strike call was incorrect
@chad1755 I get your point but as a former catcher, part of the game is framing pitches. There are catchers who are terrible at it and catchers who are like magicians with it. Part of their job is to manipulate the umpires calls and with robot umps, that part of the game is gone forever. It's a small part of the game, but it's one that I really appreciate.
@@rayspooner1982 Yeah but framing pitches is a gaming of the system -- an abuse of the rules -- it only exists because officials suck at their job. Yes its a skill, but we should be seeking to close the loopholes.
@chad1755 I don't know. I guess I'm just a traditionalist. Once you make the game robotic, I think you lose what people really love about it. I like seeing managers go toe to toe yelling at umpires, it's a baseball tradition that's as old as peanuts and crackerjacks. Sometimes a bad call goes against your team and sometimes it goes your way. In the end it all evens out. Even though we all think it's our team that's always getting screwed. That manager arguing with the ump and getting tossed fires up the crowd and the players. Controversy is fun. It's all part of what baseball is.

Oh Happy Day!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
A laughing stock is not an icon. Should've happened a long time ago...
He’s an iconic figure in baseball, which makes him an icon
@@peskytalk Um, ok. I'd find a better word. Like "notorious."
Long LONG overdue!
Is it true 🎉
CB Bucknor... Is the next
… one to *eject* you. ☝️ 💪👉
Make laz go away first
9:15 ohhhh ok i see i see why Pesky is being so pesky now. 😅 wink wink, twinkle in the eye… you will be “missed”. Hahaha took me the whole video to catch it. Ok ok ok. Got it. I love that sly, coy facetiousness when I catch it!! haha but I am not so great at catching it quickly. I have had to learn how to over the years
😭😭
I will genuinely miss his bad calls because they were hysterical, however yes he was a bad umpire
Good for him ! He suck
And the people rejoice
Yeah, when I have heard out him as a private person it hard to not like him. Bad calls are part of the game.
Who cares, he couldn't do his job.
Completely irrelevant. His job was what we judge him on in reference to baseball. Good person, bad person. Means nothing to this discussion.
He was bad at his job, but that shouldn’t make you think he’s a bad person at all, good people aren’t always the best at what they do.
@@peskytalk i didn't say he was a good person or bad - because it IS irrelevant to this discussion. Try to keep up.

Good job, Angel! A wide strike zone, but nothing wrong with speeding up games and getting batter's bats off their shoulders. Wishing you peace and happiness in your well-deserved retirement.
Cuckoo for CocoaPuffs....
CB for sure!
gone great stop the bs
YAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
no it was not fun kid
Yes it was fun kid
Yippee 🥳
I’m going to nominate Joe Biden to replace Angel as a MLB Umpire. Brandon can add that to a laundry list of jobs after being replaced by the DNC!🤣
Congrats, you win today's coveted Non-Sequitur Award, and it's only 8:15 Central.
