Sorry, as a former umpire I can say that good umpires ARE noticed. Not by fans illiterate of the rules, but by players and coaches. A great hitter is one that consistently hits above.300. A good pitcher wins twice as many games as he loses. Every umpire is expected to be perfect and they get paid nothing compared to MLB players. The lowest scrub on every MLB roster will earn a minimum of $740,000 this year. The highest paid umpire will max out at $400,000 and will be umpires with 30+ years experience. An effing MLB rookie who rides the bench will make a GUARANTEED $740,000. The highest praise I ever got as an umpire was not from fellow umpires. It was from a middle aged beer league softball manager and a 14 year old PONY baseball catcher. In the former case I overheard the softball manager tell his team that I was tough, but fair and that if I got respect I would respond in kind. The 14 year old simply told his constantly complaining coach to, and I quote, "Shut up. He's doing a great job."

Angel was a unifying force in baseball. As a Stros fan, I and a Rangers fan were both laughing at how bad Angel was on those calls in the Wyatt Langford AB.
I heard from a very reliable source that he was given an ultimatum from the brass of MLB to either retire willingly, or he would be dismissed from active umpiring duties. He had so many complaints and grievances placed against him from not only players, managers, fans, and just about every level of baseball in general, that the MLB had absolutely no choice but to give him the ultimatum to retire from MLB. I heard that all the players from around the league from every MLB team literally threw a league-wide “good-riddance” party once the news broke that he officially retired. That’s pretty sad to be disliked that fiercely from every one of your workplace peers. He was an incredibly petty and selfish umpire and even a blind man could have gotten his wrong calls right! Thankfully he’s gone from the game for good!
Angel thought he was bigger than the game, too bad he didn't have the awareness to realize how bad he was at his job. Will not be missed, should of happened 10 years earlier
