For new players, IG got much harder to understand. The nuance in every type of kinsect is easily overlooked. Combined with switch skills, new people can have a hard time to even see, that IG is at least 3 weapons in one.
This video is solid and describes powder kinsects really well.
Assist type is best tho imo.

I have thousands of hours banked into MH games and have only recently picked up the IG and my god is there so much to learn that the game does nothing to teach you. But man is Rise/Sunbreak IG among the most fun weapons in any game with any style across the franchise. It's the one weapon I know will be fun no matter what hunt I bring it to while also being a breath of fresh to keep whatever hunt I'm grinding from getting stagnant
I've got an immortal support powder set using Divine Ire head, Onmyo torso, Kush arms and waist and Flaming Espinas legs decorated for max defense boost, max divine protection, as much defiance as I can fit, recovery up maxed, recovery speed maxed, and stun resistance maxed. Altogether I've got Defense Boost 7, Agitator 5, Defiance 4, Divine Blessing 3, Recovery Up 3, Recovery Speed 3, Stun Residtance 3, Wide Range 3 (had a spare lvl 3 slot), Kushala Blessing 3, Razor Sharp 2, Spare Shot 2 (useless, but it comes with the head so eh), Stamina Surge 2, Burst 2, Attack Boost 1, Crit Eye 1, WEX 1, Partbreaker 1, Furious 1, Embolden 1, and Intrepid Heart 1. I can provide CC with KOs/para, AoE heal those near the monster, and when I have the time to attack, Staff of Laertes builds up blast so easy damage boost from a low personal DPS build.
Jesus. Hope you're running that one white and pink robe as layered, because that's a hell of a white mage.
@@FelisImpurrator actually, I usually either have my Dante layered set w/layered Malzeno IG, or my Purple Mage Layered set w/Snowshear Headgear (Colour 1: 268, 100, 100; Colour 2: 0, 0, 0), Scholarly Suit (268, 100, 10; 268, 100, 50), Five Element Arms (268, 100, 10; 268, 100, 50), Scholarly Sash (268, 100, 10; 268, 100, 10), and Snowshear Greaves (268, 100, 100; 0, 0, 0) as the layered armor w/Chammy IG layered weapon when using the equipment set.

How do you get Defiance 4 with this set? Doesn't decoration only give lvl 3?

Awesome! I have been procrastinating on the powder kinsects because I'm obsessed with the Bonus Heal ones, but, I want to try them out. This is gonna come in handy :)
Powders healing clouds are pretty clutch too!
Thanks, this helps a lot! I was using bilbobrix with a magia (blast) glaive because more explosions but it seems like ladytower with tetraseal is gonna be more versatile and worry-free.
I think there's a pretty critical tip you missed. Vortex bomb is an animation cancel. So when in situations in which your powder is likely to be destroyed by the monster or other players, it may be beneficial to simply bomb more often as a cancel.
Definitely a good point! The timing of the cancel is the same as recall kinsect so either works but blowing them up definitely would prevent you from risking losing those powders!
The other benefit this has over recall kinsect is that it doesn't stop the kinsect from continuing to attack.
I love the blunt one with PV. I run with either the Magia(blast) or the chameleos(poison) status build. I'm getting KO's, paralysis, poison/blast pretty constantly. What I've found is the Tetraseal attack that marks the monster to work a little best, plus the shear number of hits builds up my status pretty quick. I don't typically get a huge number on my vortex, but with my para-mute along for the hunt I get two to three on high level afflicted monster.
I thought the blunt kinsect didn’t apply status?

Just got Sunbreak this week, but I remember watching this video a few months ago. I love powder kinsects so I was so excited to try the vortex! But my kinsect just wouldn't do it, I thought I was being dumb and pressing the wrong buttons or something. Turns out I just needed to play a bit more to unlock Lv7 kinsects hahah... Got too excited.
I love the powder vortex so much when you get this mental numbers it's great, I hit 1200 + 200 blast was so fun. Also it's a pritty good when mutli player as you heal the close combat players although multiplayer makes it quite hard but when it works it's cool. I close combat and far off as I feel like it lol

@@SkySenseiVB yeah I'm sure. Been working on my Charge Blade, but I'm an IG main, and I've gotta try this. I'm more interested in the blast powder vortex and I'd like to try it with the scorned magna glaive against some of those monsters that are weak to blast.

I’ve been neglecting the Vortex because I thought it would interfere with the Kinsect Slash and I’ve read someone saying that in multiplayer your team will often destroy the clouds.
But this video makes me want to give it a try

Yes in multihunts, its definitely not ideal. Teammates can blow you clouds so yea its kinda rough. Like its very clear the powder kinsect playstyle isn't like IDEAL, TOP DPS so to say, but solo its really fun and status lady tower is still good for multihunts. I would use bilbo vortex for more solo hunts!
@@SkySenseiVB thanks for the tips. I played some games with the Vortex today and it was really fun and different. I got so caught up in managing the clouds I often forgot to do my normal combos lol

I fux with the Powder kinsects. I right now, I'm rockin a "Unique" "Dereliction", "Status Trigger" build using a para glaive and the new Blast powder kinsect. It can produce damage while being haxy at the same time. Plus, the 'splosions are constantly healing you so you don't have to worry about the Dereliction health drain.
ladytower stuns ehausts and paralyes.. damn
Very underrated kinsect!
It's a Shame that for multiplayer it's kinda rough.... I don't mind The monster blowing them up, but my attacks, my pets attacks, my friends attacks, any follower attacks.... Thats Rough....
It would have been nice if there was a way to have Only the monster or you inputs blowing up the powders, It wouldn't even be that broken, it would just Feel good to use in Multiplayer. altho the awakened kinsect attack does give you 5 straight away, getting 2 up takes no time, so you could get 7 and vortex really quickly
If I'm playing with friends, I change my marking aim to parts that my teammates rarely touch, for example wings or back, that way they will blow your powder less than if you normally aim the marking on head or tail, let alone legs.
And try to do vortex more often, 4 or 5 powders usually are the target, it's more viable than to wait for 7 powders.
Not bad didn't realize anyone else noticed how much damage Vortex does with Blast powder.
My own two cents.
Rondine in particular uses the same blast heal vortex so use the same to use her vortex with your own for high damage.
You should be able to do the same with other Insect Glaive users.
Initially I prefered using this build to offset Berserker Build but ended up with an immortal build with high damage.
This build will probably be patched having just two powders fully heal the party is nuts with berserker build.
Only weaknesses are fire or poison enemies though.

is auto attack frequency good for powder types with status?
Each status cloud with my testing is ~25 status when popped manually. Vortex makes all cloud even heal with heal/paralysis count as 50 paralysis status.
Meaning a single send + vortex is pretty much guaranteed first status in a hunt since most monsters start at 180-250 ish status threshold and bug gets 6 hits in a single send.
Pretty much anyone can dump >1K damage with a single sleep/paralysis proc meanwhile poison really only ever does at most 450 damage depending on the monster making it less valuable outside of farming Kushala.
Does the Blast one scale with Blast damage? If so I imagine its really good with Scorns Glaive in a Blast damage builf
Kinsects don't scale with armor skills, i think its just based on your kinsect level
With the powder builds is it better to use a specific IG with status like paralysis (i assume prob not for the ladytower kinsect) or poison? Or would it be better just to continue with the lucent narg/ flaming esp IG?
IMO - its better to keep the dmg focus on your glaive. Its FUN to combine a status glaive with powder kinsects but for a more balanced fight, I would use more dmg on your glaive and then let the powder kinsects do their thing :)
Do you know how to change the cancadamans powder type from poison to para? Can't find how to anywhere. Unless it's incredibly obvious and I'm just being a dummy
Idk if I never made a right play or a right build for insect glaive but it feel underwhelming every time I used it. I always play aerial but I might try vortex next time. Aerial is fun but damage is very underwhelming for the afford I’m putting in.😅 What vortex is like in TU 4? Any skills that might benefit it’s damage? If it doesn’t scale with weapon attack (which I assume it would be the case) it might be getting worse and worse when monster is tougher and has more hp

@@Agilepickleunite 😭 I have a skilled issue that I don’t land the hit most time and I felt I didn’t do enough dps compared to other weapon, especially during multiplayer

Hold R2 (aim) then Circle + Triangle; to do vortex, pulling any nearby powders to the location of your kinsect.
Hold R2 (aim) then Circle; during the vortex animation to cancel the explosion, leaving all the powders there in that one location.
This way you can repeatedly do all that again and again if needed to reposition the powders to your intended location.
Keep in mind, you can only do vortex if your kinsect is flying around, it will simply fail if the kinsect is on your hand.

Boosted powder extract doesn’t work for me
boosted powder extract is from assist kinsects, not powder kinsects. Did you try the assist ones?

@@Afashi-vo4vz I'm not entirely sure what the buttons are for PS5 but the usual method is to hold the special action button (The one that opens up your aimer) and then click both attack buttons at the same time.
