Do not forget to consider elemental damage. Especially during the comparison with the Tetraseal Combo you get about 28 Hits more with Tetraseal; which would be about 28x16 extra dragon damage on a Rathian's Head witht the Valstrax Glaive. Also do not neglect the utility of Tetraseal: It automarks the monster this opens up more playstyles potentially leading to extra damage. Last but not least: You have to invest into stamina managment with the Arial Insect Glaive: This might mean 3 points of Constitution instead of Attack Up or Agitator or Crit Eye. It means eating for Figther instead of Booster or using a Palico instead of a Palamute. Even so, i the end i mostly stick with arial because of the additional safety it provides. It would honestly be bad combat balancing if the safest playstyle was the most damaging one. It would make choosing the playstyle feel graceless and bereft of intelligence. Great video as always.
youll only take my dog from my cold dead hands xD but i get you. I picked up on the style quickly come launch and came to the same conclusion, without the Constitution or fighter dango its a giant mess trying to pull it all off.
At least Con 2 is indeed needed for aeriel. But if you run out of stamine you can just ground combo for a while. The beauty of IG. I mostly stick with aeriel as well as it’s so unique to IG.
I started using the kinsect slash + diving wyvern combo because of your videos and the number one reason it's because it's new style of gameplay. I have around 1.2k hours played with IG (World + Rise) and being able to play in a different way is refreshing
Very nice. This is what IG should be in my opinion, a good mobile balance between the styles. The thing that sticks out to me the most is that, outside of the very first example, all of these are very close to each other, meaning you can basically change it up depending on the situation and still be able to deal consistent strong damage. I had a feeling that was the case from just playing, but it's great to see it confirmed.
I have the stubbornness to stay aerial no matter what, and I'm glad it ain't that bad now! Very nice. I hated ground ig for the longest time lol like if I want some weapon combos on the ground, I could be using other weapons instead y'know. Thank you for this. Now I won't be judged flying around on random lobbies/hunts
I just got MHR for pc and I'm only HR3. I played DB, and LS in MHW though, have a little over a thousand hrs. I always wanted to learn Insect Glaive, now after watching this video I'm going to give it a try. It really looks fun.
I think there's a couple footnotes I'd like to add to your conclusion. Kinsect Slash, especially when used very quickly, consumes a lot of stamina. Enough so that you might not be able to finish a full combo during an opening. Though this is easily mitigated with things like spirit birds, skills, and dash juice. Another thing to note is that there appears to be a very small or guard point after the second hit of Kinsect Slash. I've noticed when landing that timing precisely you can potentially, key word, keep up your combo.
@@bootysalad Constitution and Stamina Surge. Constitution has 5 levels, decreases your stam usage on rolls and all the IG airborne stuff. Stamina Surge has 3 levels - each level increases the rate you regenerate stamina by 10%, up to, well, 30%. You can also eat for dango fighter which stacks with Constitution, to an upper limit of something...cant recall offhand. Your palico can also use a skill called "Go, Fight, Win", that also works like and stacks with Constitution. Sorry that was so long, hope it helps. Btw if you see a skill called Marathon Runner, that's bait for IG. It says it reduces stamina usage too, but its for things that have a continuous drain on your stam bar, like dashing with Lance, Demon Mode in Dual Blades, uhhh... Hammer charge holding I think, but not IG. 👍🏾

@@bootysalad I straight up build the default bow comfy build with Cons 5, Stam Surge 3 as the base mandatory skills. With that, I was able to use 2 full combo with both Dyving Wyvern + 1 more full combo into Enhanced Insect Spiker (the triangle combo) + some Midair Evades in between. That build takes me through the storyline quickly. But I guess that was way too comfy of a build, because I was spamming vault after vault with no ground combo in between. I think the better way of doing it is like the video: full Aerial Combo > Midair Evade > DW > Ground Combo (in this window, with Stam Surge 3, your stamina will recover fully) > start another Aerial Combo. You may want to experiment on how much you want to compensate for Cons & SS skill for your full combo can come through, and also some space for some Midair Evades. Also Evade Extender on aerial combo is awesome :D
I've been jumping between weapons since rise (didnt like the HH changes) but this play style is so much fun thanks for the videos, mb IG main in progress 🤔
I am so happy that aerial is viable now. Even if it was still weaker, as long as it is not trash like it used to, I will play it because it's FUN! And obviously, right now it doesn't just look viable, it actually looks like it's stronger! Amazing.
I decided to main insect glaive for sunbreak mainly because of the new switch skills and the aerial playstyle is my favorite so far. I still have to try vortex kinsect but that I can wait.
I do a mix of ground and aerial play with the insect glaive. It's what I find to be the most fun when playing it, but I am using the dual color defense kinsect since that seems to be the one that gives me the most time with the triple up buff so far with the majority of monsters.
The closest we can get is Astalos, Storge/Arc, Luna, Astalos, Luna Its Dragoon like if you dye it blue to match the Lunagaron or if you don't like it being blue use Archdemon(arms and legs) and color it anything you like
Very informative video, i was just messing around yesterday with insect glaive and it's been a hell of a lot of fun. I was just wondering if you were using stamina usage reducing skills or dangos in the Kinsect Slash clips? My Kinsect Slashes take way more stamina than that and I often can't chain them all the way to the Diving Wyvern.
I got the same issue. Mr4. If I hop once between de slashes I often cannot get the last slash in or reposition got the final blow. This is on a regular hunt with the right food and stuff.
Constitution is great, but you can give that up if you opt for meal with Fighter in the first slot, and keep up with Dash Juice. Those two things will suffice.
Funny that ppl seem to argue about ground vs aerial. For me its one of the perks of this weapon of beeing able to switch between both playstyles as you like it, to combat monotonous hunts.
More about an arguement of dps than enjoyment. Which in an actual hunt situation instead of a training dummy one, ground will typically be much easier to achieve its dps than aerial. Also to note by default using the same weapon over and over will eventually lead to monotonous hunts regardless.
As a Insect Galive main, I only use this style lol. I almoste never fight on the groud, and even when the monster is not incapacitated. I just try to dodge mid-air all the attacks while continuing to attack the monster right after. I get hit really rarely while almost never stop to attack the monster. And as you've showed it here, the damages are clearly here. So I don't get why this would not be a good option... I get that we all have preferences, but objectively, if you are able to land the combos, it is a really viable option.
Being an older insect glaive that stayed on the ground and did the tornado slash a lot. I use a mixture of both. I try to use diving wyvern when I have my stamina saved up. I'm also at the end of sunbreak but not end game so my playstyle might change
One downside of aerial is that it has bad time fighting monsters with large wings that have bad hitzone like Kushala, and those that do a lot of lunging moves with ridiculous all-body hitbox... Also like Kushala. So... Go with the best of both worlds and use tetraseal with blunt boosted extract kinsect to create your own gas station and wail away at juicy hitzones with aerial when the monster's down. One more thing, I think elemental tetraseal might be doing more dps than aerial with Dereliction build.
I've generally found a pretty decent rhythm air insect glaive in using the powder assist kinsect and alternating between a full air combo and 1 tetraseal combo. This makes it so generally I always have enough stamina for full power dives and I have an ample supply of full buff clouds around. The other thing I do is my set has level 3 of the skill furious on it so I go in a cycle of the first 90 seconds I play more ground focused and build lots of buff powder clouds around and the next 90 seconds I go pure aerial since I have infinite stamina and usually available buff clouds to grab, and from there it's just alternate
Do you have to supplement decos that help with stamina use/regen? How does that hurt the dps on aerial ig. Would love to see a full build video for armor and skills
You've sold me on this playstyle! If nothing else it looks very fun. That said, what sort of skills should I be looking for? It seems like stamina skills would be important. In particular what talisman would you recommend? Thanks!
I would advise you to reupload/make a separate test video with the builds shown on each test before you start so people know that nothing funny is going on without having to run their own tests (you saying the builds are equal doesn't really cut it when you only need to open a menu and flip through some pages to clearly shown what was said).
I have been trying for so long to get back into this weapon. It's hard to let go of an addiction (longsword), especially if theres a deco with 3 quick sheath. I am trying, but being addicted to that thing since 2017 makes it a challenge.
I loved it at first, but the kinsect slashes get repetitive very fast for me visually speaking. It feels a lot like poking with Lance, but at least with Lance I can throw in a charge, do the charged sweep, pull off counters, etc. That feels like a lot more fun than simply going for the diving wyvern all the time and repositioning as needed. Managing your extracts isn't fun for me so that doesn't count. Therefore, I mix it up with ground combos just to change things up.
Did you ever do the Powder Vortex damage comparison? I've fairly recently taken up IG for the first time, and was a bit overwhelmed by the options. Elemental, non? Ground, aerial? Assist, Vortex?
Is there a video or guide for your palmute setups? I don't know much about buddies besides giving them paralysis weapons. Anything you can recommend would be great! I love these comparison videos.
Although i am primarily subscribed to you for Elden Ring content ( i know..i know..its ok i dont play it as well currently, will be back into it after few weeks or a month or two ), i watched some Monster Hunter videos purely from interest...combat as you describe it sounds awesome. Only thing that bothers me with Monster Hunter is the art direction and how everything looks tooo arcady and stuff, but that may be just mine preconceptions or something. Anyway i almost bought it on steam summer sale but the art style put me off and the impression of having tons of stuff to learn for a new game, i bought detroid become human instead. Could you make a video for absolute beginners in Monster Hunter, where to begin, how to begin, what game to buy...etc..etc.. Maybe that would inspire me and others who are on the fence about playing it, to try it and it wouldnt seem such a chore or starting a new giant game with tons of systems. Great videos btw :D
I very much prefer Aerial over ground. I rarely get damaged and it keeps the brain’s porch light on. Meaning I’m still engaged with the fight. It’s so much better than feeling like I’m hitting a monster with the MH equivalent of a rolled up news paper
@@ewy4010 if we wanted to play the game as “caveman hit big monster with big stick” we would be Great Sword mains. We insect glaive mains have a more civilized approach to hunting.
kinda weird you didn't even mentioned/tested elemental dmg, given the diving wyvern combo really benefits from raw, and elemental is overall really strong in SB.
This looks like a lot of fun. I've been a LS exclusive main for a while now and I'm just arriving at a stage I feel confortable and have enough resources to invest in another weapon/set, and I think it will be the insect glaive. Sounds super mp friendly too
My go to combo is kinsect yeet, into 3 kinsect slash then the kinsect spike. Right now I use the dual color (attack) assist kinsect so I get the red buff right away for kinsect slash but I may try the speed charge kinsect since it looks like it hits 6 times on the kinsect throw as long as its charged up. But damage vs comfort is always the case isn't it.
I've been using the aerial style, almost exclusively for quite a few hours now. It's good damage when you can pull it off, on some monsters you can repeatedly and reliably pull it off and just be aerial the entire fight without using ground moves. Is it fun? For a bit, but it got incredibly boring after a while, it's extremely safe for a lot of monsters which is good and bad. Bad because you can effectively cheese them, but good if you use it more as a move and not the entire play-style. It's best as a piece of your arsenal, and not the entire arsenal.
I didn’t watch this for so long because I didn’t want a nagging voice at the back of my head telling me that my beloved aerial wasn’t ‘meta’. I finally decided I truly didn’t care about meta, but now I’m just pleased
I'm still really worried about the powder vortex potentially being better. To be blunt, I don't want to have to go that route when the final title updates come out to avoid timing out whatever black dragon we gotta hunt because it's just boring compared to aerial style
Nah, I really doubt that will happen. Even using the second best option should be more than enough to not time out. People killed fatalis (and will likely kill SB final boss) with much worse. As long as the player learns the fight well, any weapon and playstyle will be viable.
Powder vortex damage is just similar to diving wyvern /w assist-boosted powder extract kinsect. Heck, powder kinsects could be countered by the roars so there's pros and cons to it.
very cool, people been asking about this a lot and even myself can now proudly weave into the air even my by abuse of ''recall kinsect'' because it at the very least seems to me to deal the same amount of dmg a DW would do if you hit all 3 strikes
Would you release a guide on how to set this up/what build compliments it? I'm new to sunbreak and trial and error just ends up frustrating me to figure out what "works" since there are so many options. the whole theory crafting aspect is what makes me stop playing Monster Hunter games as I'm not a fan of feeling egregiously weak for ages until I figure it out. Generally I am a fan of the aerial meta however I'm like basic spin to win Andy in the air where I repeatedly helicopter the length of the monster and bounce off repeatedly until the spin down is max damage and repeat
Is there a video showcasing the build & skills involved to be able to reach this kind of damage? I've been messing around for awhile, and can't seem to get it quite right.
What gear were you wearing for this demonstration? Nearing endgame and I'm starting to look for builds and this new aerial style has been my jam and I'm just looking for somewhere to start build-wise.
Aren't you supposed to do the forward stab after tornado slash though to loop the combo? Pretty sure it's better than canceling with recall and then starting over again.
@@ratatoskr6324 True just thought I should mention it though in case you weren't aware of it. Kinsect slash into diving wyvern definitely seems to be the strongest. Using it feels like playing the game on easy mode sometimes.

Do you have a recommended set listed anywhere? also do you use constitution at all? The Reddit meta gallery flat out refused to even entertain the idea of aerial IG.
It's hard to do the tornado slash stab loop on the training dummy head. And the stabs wouldn't have made it out damage the diving wyvern.

I always enjoy the Metroid soundtrack in the background, sir!
I'm loving this aerial insect glaive. Finally filling their niche.
I actually just started IG a couple days ago because I wanted to be in the air, regardless if ground style was better or not. So this is good to know!
I won't touch that weird bug stick any time soon, but I'm glad you are making MH videos :D
Can’t wait for more insect glaive videos. Would love to see some full hunts with aerial/ powder set up
Ive noticed the I-frame(s) during the kinsect slash 2nd hit as well. I wonder if it works with Evade Window🤤
what skills may i ask help i love ig but the stamina eating kills the fluidness of it for me
@@bootysalad Constitution and Stamina Surge.
@@bootysalad see this vid for Stamina Reduction changes in Rise from Worldborne
Stamina Reduction include:
Constitution (skill)
Dango Fighter (untested but probably works, dango food)
Dash Juice (item)
Go Fight Win (Palico Lv 10 skill)
Butterflies (Endemic Life)
Hunting Horn Song (friend)
Other stuff that can help:
Hunger Resistance/Food (restore lost stamina)
Stamina Surge (Skill) - Increase stamina restoration rate
Spiribird's Call (Skill) - gives you spiribirds over time
Spiribird Rally (Ramp Skill) - improves spiribirds sometimes
Can't wait for build videos
I've been jumping between weapons since rise (didnt like the HH changes) but this play style is so much fun thanks for the videos, mb IG main in progress 🤔
This is my favorite way to play now. Thank you. See you in the skies, brothers and sisters.
This is an interesting find really. I've been dabbling with IG on Sunbreak. I'll try it.
I am so happy that aerial is viable now. Even if it was still weaker, as long as it is not trash like it used to, I will play it because it's FUN!
And obviously, right now it doesn't just look viable, it actually looks like it's stronger! Amazing.
Tbh I love alternating between ground and aerial playstyles, ig feels great now!
Having sooooo much fun with this. God I love flying.
I decided to main insect glaive for sunbreak mainly because of the new switch skills and the aerial playstyle is my favorite so far. I still have to try vortex kinsect but that I can wait.
Omg I didn't know we can aim with the new air attack it takes so much sense now i'm gonna try this it looks way better than I thought
You can also mark a part of the monster and kinsect slash will autopilot to the marking
@@LugaruEvolutions awesome need to try this to
@@axi8158 ahh, gotta correct myself - that was for kinsect glide the new silkbind. But useful nonetheless :)
@@LugaruEvolutions oh yeah I know that one and there is an on it
I do a mix of ground and aerial play with the insect glaive. It's what I find to be the most fun when playing it, but I am using the dual color defense kinsect since that seems to be the one that gives me the most time with the triple up buff so far with the majority of monsters.
same to all that!
Just when the IG can fully take to the skies, the Dragoon set isn't in the game.
Ikr....... YOSHI P PLS COLLAB AGAIN W MH RISE
The closest we can get is Astalos, Storge/Arc, Luna, Astalos, Luna Its Dragoon like if you dye it blue to match the Lunagaron
or if you don't like it being blue use Archdemon(arms and legs) and color it anything you like
This helped me, thanks.
I actually did not know how to charge that falling attack before this video.
Put some Constitution decos in tour build tô reduce stamina usage during aerial dogdes
I've been using aerial since I first got my hands on the base rise,
I never knew some ppl would prefer ground assault.
Ahh, you named your Palamute Repede as and you play IG. We're kindred spirits, you and I.
i feel like this has always been the vision for insect glaive and i really hope the trend continues forward with new titles
efficient and satisfying. TY
I have to say. Those dogs are dealing more damage than most of the RANDOS ive played with! :D
dont forget that vaulting dance has s to it too when comparing uptime of aerial vs ground
I have been trying for so long to get back into this weapon. It's hard to let go of an addiction (longsword), especially if theres a deco with 3 quick sheath. I am trying, but being addicted to that thing since 2017 makes it a challenge.
Sold! ❤️❤️❤️
I can say elemental is better in general for IG
@@leebard9335 wow, I wouldn't have guessed!
Is there a video or guide for your palmute setups? I don't know much about buddies besides giving them paralysis weapons. Anything you can recommend would be great! I love these comparison videos.
I think his are set up with Attack Up (S) and (L), Ranged-Centric, Ranged Attack Up, and Piercing Attack Up
so diving wyvern vs ground combos is to insect glaive as super spam vs spinning axe are to charge blade.
I'll look into it.
I very much prefer Aerial over ground. I rarely get damaged and it keeps the brain’s porch light on. Meaning I’m still engaged with the fight. It’s so much better than feeling like I’m hitting a monster with the MH equivalent of a rolled up news paper
For me, it more like a bee sting :D
@@ewy4010 if we wanted to play the game as “caveman hit big monster with big stick” we would be Great Sword mains.
We insect glaive mains have a more civilized approach to hunting.
@@DragonsController8 my fellow ig main
kinda weird you didn't even mentioned/tested elemental dmg, given the diving wyvern combo really benefits from raw, and elemental is overall really strong in SB.
Tetraseal combo would destroy it with elemental, just look at how many more hits it got with only 200 damage less by the end on raw.
EO4 music.. Nice 💜
Been playing aerial insects glaive in rise and sunbreal just make it way more cooler
This looks like a lot of fun. I've been a LS exclusive main for a while now and I'm just arriving at a stage I feel confortable and have enough resources to invest in another weapon/set, and I think it will be the insect glaive. Sounds super mp friendly too
The thing with powder is that like… it’s fun! But it doesn’t feel super optimal if you’re going for all the powder hits
The first time I held this
I fall in love with it the moment when I can punish flying monsters for fun.
How als had this kind of experience
Thank you.
Hey Ratatoskr quick question, is your name a reference to Date A Live by any chance?
IG looks insanely fun in this game, damn...
As main IG myself, I never want to touch the ground.
Nearing endgame and I'm starting to look for builds and this new aerial style has been my jam and I'm just looking for somewhere to start build-wise.
is that Etrian Odyssey music i hear? good taste.
One skill i think most Aerial IG's should try is punishing rajang's big slam with a DW. Its super satisfying, especially if u down it too
Aren't you supposed to do the forward stab after tornado slash though to loop the combo? Pretty sure it's better than canceling with recall and then starting over again.
Yeah that sounds about right.
It is better but it's hard to do that to the training dummy head. The stab wouldn't have made it out damage the Wyvern Dive.
@@ratatoskr6324 True just thought I should mention it though in case you weren't aware of it. Kinsect slash into diving wyvern definitely seems to be the strongest. Using it feels like playing the game on easy mode sometimes.
What was the music at the beginning of the video it sounded oddly familiar.
Hah that is what i set up for my Furious rajang set due to its unique skill that let you have infinite stamina for a duration when switching to blue scroll , red scroll for normal ground combat and then i power up using blue scroll and take to the sky .
Could you do a video on endgame insect glaive builds?
Ariel ig ftw!
i like doing the tetraseal once in a while when i want to recover stamina or am just standing right in front of the face or the tail while it's immobilized
Do you like aiming your camera at the floor? then try Insect Glaive! it’s the glaive that comes with a bug!
That's pretty clever actually
@@AdidaX21 honestly, I’m mostly a gunner, so given that I can easily shoot a flying monster from the ground and constantly looking up towards the sky it just struck me how much of the time in this footage, Ratatoskr is looking pretty much directly at the floor and missing all the pretty scenery.
The rest was just me being a snarky butthead😅
Anyone have an aerial build they can share?
I am running into stamina issues. I am not sure if I should be swapping out attack decorations for constitution, or there is some better skill altogether to deal with this.
have you tried a stam surge for one slot or dash juice?
Do you have a recommended set listed anywhere? also do you use constitution at all?
The Reddit meta gallery flat out refused to even entertain the idea of aerial IG.
Can you make a video about you build and show it clearly with both scrolls too?
Did your kinsect slashes poke downward at the monsters? Mine are all horizontal
Hey :) Wanting to test IG but I have no idea what are the skills considered mandatory for the aeriall playstyle, would you mind sharing some light ?
Do you have some glaive builds. I've been looking for a decent IG build.
