i use a snapped old breaker bar, with a close fit plastic sleeve over it. the sleeve rotates and doesnt bind the belt as you wind the crank on it with the tip of the bar levering off something guiding the belt on. hope this helps mate they used to do my head in too. :)
Any VW with a PD engine and manual gearbox built between 2004 and 2009 is what you need. Starship mileages common with only regular servicing and a good quality oil.
I remember when Hitachi alty's were on Datsun's... they literally never failed... and neither did the batteries... And why on earth have they started putting clutches on Alty's !!??
I remember my old Citroen AX 1.1 RE 1988 when my alternator failed. It was not required to buy the whole alternator, just dismantle and replace the resistor block, and it worked. I have never seen anything like it, and now have to buy the whole set!
As the former owner of a bothersome Nissan Qashqai, I can say they’re sh1te cars. My ex had two Nissans (Qashqai and XTrail) and they both gave her bother. My brother had four Nissans and again nothing but issues with them, and he bought them all new. A recent survey cited the Juke as the most unreliable car in the UK. I’m now on my eight Renault, only one of which gave me an issue with a window regulator. Great cars, unlike the Nissans.
The quality of modern parts is shocking tbh, everything these days is built to the lowest possible price and just doesn't last like they used to. Top job though, as ever Baz. All the best!
I think possibly just an unlucky part failure for the customer. Considering the number of nissans made there reliability score isn't terrible in general
I work at a dealership and we find it’s due to the tightness of the stretch belt, I’ve had one replaced with a new belt. Water pump then failed a couple of months, overheated and needed an engine. These engines are 16k!
Nissan qashqai is the worst car I have ever owned, I am now up to £7,000 in parts replacement just to keep my car running and still I have more parts that need replacing it is just awfully made, every 2 weeks my car brakes, I have had no support from the garage that my partner got it from for me and I can't wait to get rid of it and will never ever again have a nissan
@seery188 mine is a 2014 1.5 diesel, j11 its the worst car ever made and nissan should be banned from making cars because I have had mine 3 years and so far I am up to £7,000 in parts replacement and every 2 weeks something else Brakes, I cannot wait to get rid of it
My partners Juke has had this issue. 9000 miles on a 2023 car. Dealer at first was refusing warranty on the car and repair was quoted at £1.5K for new alternator.
Thanks for the video. I, and most I know, w/agree with your title and have voiced as much. So here's a Q: for everyone who agrees: How is it that the average vehicle on U.S. roads is now almost 13 model years old (an alleged record here)? If pressed on my beliefs, I don't know that I'd have a sufficient answer, which means I got nothing. Any theories/ideas out there? Maybe it means many/most American owners are broke like me. ? :o)
I was told it is an economy measure to save petrol. My 2005 Mondeo Duratec had one which lasted about 17 years and failed. My mechanic ordered a new one but it wasn't a clutch model , luckily he spotted this and had the correct one delivered.
When their are 20+ year old Toyota's knocking about with the original alternator along with many original other parts there just isn't an excuse really apart from £££££
any nissans nowadays are not worth the headache. they churned a load out on good finance deals so people thought they were good and in turn bought them too. never get a qashqow or a puke!!
Spiders Web On That Cable Tie Shockaroonie Think A Clutch On Every Pulley Is To Get The Load Off The Engine To Get More MPG Especially On Motorways Long Distance Where They Only Engauge When ECU Required
I have a 2012 Nissan Quest with 180,000 miles. No leaks on original engine and transmission, original fuel pump, original alternator original water pump, everything original. All fluids changed many times. Engine oil every 5000 miles , transmission, yes a CVT, fluid changed five times, coolant changed four times, etc. I don’t understand these overrun clutched pulleys on these alternators. Just another fail point! .

Everyone please tell me what you would do in this situation. Audi A1 1.6 TDI brought to us after inspection else where for a turbo after stripping and inspecting it our self we can't find the nut from the end of the turbo impeller it's definitely nowhere before the intercooler I have had a look in the intake side of the intercooler and I don't think it would fit through the fin's 🤔 did it fall out when I stripped it or when the person before us looked at it or is it hiding and going to 💥at some point 😕
@@colliehouse3133 I did see your first thought before you edited it and that's how it's gone first thought it's hiding somewhere and after pulling stripping and clearing everything including air box to the intercooler and still no sign of it I went above and beyond and had to presume it's fallen out at some point it's running sweet now it's just one of those things that make you feel uneasy
As every car manufacturer today, why make it simple when you can make it complicated. Stupid stretch belt and an alternator with a clutch. totally unnecessary.
Nissan has been rubbish for at least 20 years because they partnered with Renault, if you want a decent car you've got 4 or 5 brands to choose from. Lexus Toyota Volvo Honda (not wet belts) Some Suzuki Some Mazda Or you can get a Hyundai or Kia with 5 / 7 years warranty but still risky Never get a land rover, jaguar, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Nissan, range rover, Fiat, Vauxhall
That cameo from Ben was Oscar award worthy
French sh!te on once was an excellent "Japanese"brand.
Anyway great job Baz well done.
We have a contract with europcar and we've seen a few brand new jukes with less than 10k have failed alternators.
Come on BEN! Don’t forget ya tea trolley! 🫣🤣
The reason it failed at 41k is the badge on the front and all the big Rhombus of DOOMS all over the engine.
Those stretch belt tools. I have 3 types, (of only 1 is actually any good) and still have to revert to the pry bar and finger method occasionally. 😂

Looks cold in the workshop today, winter is coming 🥶
Modern cars in general are 💩
wish I had seen the cable tie trick before I chewed a new belt with the "special tool" on my Fiesta!
Any VW with a PD engine and manual gearbox built between 2004 and 2009 is what you need. Starship mileages common with only regular servicing and a good quality oil.
Until it strips out the oil pump shaft... bye bye PD. You want a PSA HDi engine. Common rail for comfort and fuel economy. Those will do mega miles.
I worked for a nissan dealership I've replaced those alternators at lower mileage they are troublesome
Nissan=Renault thats why lol.
That's why I'd not by another nissan.
2016 smart cars= Renault engines not mercedes engines

I’m really surprised that FAG don’t make one.

Mad. I changed mine on a Skoda Octavia after 10 years and 220,000 miles. Wasn’t as easy to get to as that one!
Nissan are the FIAT Of Japan.
nice looking cars but I'd never buy one.
Fiat isn't even that bad
I bet that alternator was easily a few hundred £ .
👍
Only thing that's "enhanced" on an EFB is the price 😂
True and hate to think of the price of that alternator.
I work at a dealership and we find it’s due to the tightness of the stretch belt, I’ve had one replaced with a new belt. Water pump then failed a couple of months, overheated and needed an engine. These engines are 16k!
That's crazy

That's insane.
Bazaroony does it yet again, great work, if you ever get a Freelander2 in for the belts and water pump etc please do one of you fantastically videos.
Had a qashqai and after 7th time in garage refused to pick it up and they buy it back off me. Will not by British built again absolute crap
Wouldn't have a Nissan if it was free.

This spider web its huge !! but nice to look on your great job !
Give it another 40k and it'll fail lol
One thing looks doddle to change
Who decided to put a clutch on the pulley, and what's the purpose of it, beats me 🥴
Stops the belt wobbling and helps it all to last longer. One of the few good modern inventions to be fair.

I thought Nissan had a five year warranty?
I would never buy a french car ergo Nissan
