- Let's defeat every Paper Mario: The Origami King boss, and we'll try to beat them using a POW Block, to see what happens.
So what does a POW block to do to every Paper Mario: The Origami King boss? You may have seen some gaming news channels talking about Paper Mario: The Origami King glitches, and one of those recently discovered glitches was that if you use a POW Block on the Boss Sumo Bros, it freezes the game: Mario just floats in the air, the music continues, and the Toads keep talking, but you can't move or continue without resetting.

The POW block is a really weird item. There are very few situations in the game where it's actually practical to use it due to how battles work in Origami King; plus it's basically useless entirely in boss battles, which is counterintuitive since that's when you'd normally think you'd want to take advantage of those attack items. Really interesting to see this new perspective. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for checking out the video, and thanks for your thoughts! The only place I've used POW Blocks where it was kind of useful was when facing sidesteppers because it flips them upside-down
@@ZXMany Oh good point. I suppose the puzzle in the Water Vellumental Shrine where you have to hit the POW block in the overworld to get back the piece serves as a hint towards that.

The pow block is useful for if I accidentally messed up the rings is in my first attack and use the pow block so that it makes the enemies off-balance so I don't get any damage
The POW block was obviously just for normal enemies if you mess up lining them up the developers thought that why would you use the pow block on bosses when you can jump
That's a good point! The POW block can be useful on side steppers or a messed up a lineup, but outside of that, it's not a very useful item. And it's also very funny that you can carry a very limited amount of them in the game
You must not have played very many Rpgs, or perhaps you're just not a very curious person. You try all kinds of stuff because you just never know what you might discover by doing so. Rpgs are usually chock full of secrets.

Most Bosses: Well I can't.
I definitely think the pow block is very interesting and I don’t think the developers expected people to use the pow block in boss fights.
It's pretty funny how little damage the POW block does in fights, it does 0-1 damage on many of the bosses. It's a good way to find out exactly how much HP a boss has though :)
The reason why the Sumo Bros no longer softlocked is because patch 1.0.1 released earlier which fixed this bug
I was thinking it might be patched because I heard some people say this glitch was discovered after that patch! So I'm not sure if it is patched already or if I'm just doing something incorrectly when replicating it, it could be patched already!

The reason why Boss Sumo Bros works fine is because there was a bug fixing update
Yeah, I thought it might be that, because that video was originally posted about 3 weeks ago. But apparently that glitch was found after the Shangri Spa and other glitches patch, so maybe I'm not replicating it correctly. In the original video, it looks like only the boss and one small Sumo Bro survived, so I'll do some more testing to see if I can get the game to crash still :)
I didn’t have the game at the time it was discovered, I heard it was patched at the beginning of august, I got it 6 days later
@@ZXMany if you have a phisical copy you can uninstall all the game data and use the cartridge to be in 1.0.0
Its funny, the POW Block was in Sticker Star the best Item becouse it coude give the enemy a state ẃho makes all damage x2!
That is really funny! The POW block is pretty underwhelming on bosses in The Origami King, and it could be useful on sidesteppers, but I haven't really used it outside of that

I always had a pow block on me but it just sat in my inventory. I saw it like a back up option if fleeing did not work
I did the exact same thing! And I do the same thing in many games! If I get an item, I think, "Let's save this until we REALLY need it, because I don't want to have to use it if I don't have to." Then I end up beating the game without using it
They are dirt cheap really but I'm stingy with my money

Nintendo fixed the sumo bros glitch in the 1.01 update or something like that
It might be, yeah! I wasn't able to replicate it, and I don't know if that's because it has been patched since it was originally found a few weeks ago, or if I just couldn't replicate it correctly :) I think this glitch was discovered after that first patch, so I'm not sure if it's been fixed yet

What about Olly's Earth Vellumental form? Since you couldn't test the POW block on the original version of the boss.
Great question! This was a while ago, but I think the POW block had the same effect as on King Olly's other forms. I actually found a way to edit the game's save data to let me test out a POW block on the first two bosses! On the Earth Vellumental, it does basically nothing (I think it does 1 damage), and I haven't tried it on Colored Pencils yet
That POW Block has so much POWer it breaks the game.

Good video, tho I was hoping for an attentive methored for beating that freking Rubber Band boss WITHOUT using the 1000 Fold Arm Ability I fount that beyond tedious.
Thanks so much! I've done some experimenting on the Rubber Band boss, and it looks like you need 1FA both to finish off phase 1 and phase 2, nothing else can end the phase from what I've tried :(
@@ZXMany Well ok, what I hate about is the fact that this rubber prick can uttery cheap shot you while your trying to grab her, and from what I heard, you HAVE to tank a hit or else it won't count, which I found to be one of the DUMBIST design choose I seen in a Paper Mario game.
@@augustbornone It's really tough, yeah, you can get hit while trying to do the final attack! It's possible to get the grab without getting hit, I'm pretty sure I manage to do that in this video

The glitch with Sumo Bros has probably been patched which is why the game didn't crash for you

Yeah, it certainly made testing if we could defeat some of the bosses with the POW Block extremely difficult haha
I heard the sumo bro softlock with the pow block happens if you do the station clip instead of going the normal way in Autumn mountain
Oh really? That's a very strange condition to make the glitch work like that, I wonder why that would happen only if you station clip

@@fawfulthegreat64 Yeah, I agree with your skepticism. The game does keep track of certain story triggers and if you've progressed past them, but I can't imagine how something much earlier in the game would affect a softlock on a much later boss from a POW block

Thanks so much for the comment! The stapler only does that attack if you end your turn in one of the two outermost rings! The stapler will do a different attack if you end your turn in one of the two innermost rings :) Have a great day!

Yeah, it might be! The original video was 3 weeks old, so I don't know if it's been fixed, or if I'm not replicating it correctly. I'll have to do some more testing :)

The normal attacks for king olly when he is in the earth vellumemtal form because if you use your hammer on a limb it will do 1 damage
No one is talking about how scissors poofed out of existence when you finished it with POW block
The fire dragon is the most EZ boss ever like he isn’t like the rubber band when he uses his weakness to attack HE DOESNT HEAL IT BACK unless you use 1,000 fold arms and fail. So he is pretty much an easy boss for any Vellumental

That's a really great question!
You normally can't get a POW block that early in the game, so you can't normally use a POW Block on the Earth Vellumental or the Colored Pencils boss!
I did test it out later on when I learned more about game hacking/ save file editing, and it didn't do anything special, the POW Block just ended up working normally on them 😂

I believe if you try to use a pow block on the earth vellumental it won’t work but I think if you use it in the colored pencils boss I think it can do at least 1 or 2 damage on the boss but you can only test this if you hack your items
That's right, we can only get the pow block that early by hacking our items! I did test it out a little while ago, and it ended up doing either no damage or a small amount of damage, but it wasn't anything special 🤷 It's interesting to note that there's a default battle with Toads in the game where you can fight 4 toads (that are called goombas when you hover over them), and POW blocks don't reach them! We cover that in my Unreachable Piranha Plant video if anyone's interested!

But what if their was a way to use pow blocks in the paper macho fights like the pokey and gooper blooper where it appears in When you press Y and it could hit it and break it

It might have! There was a big patch recently, but I think this glitch was discovered after that! So I'm not sure if this was also patched, or if I'm not able to replicate it correctly. I'm going to try defeating the Boss Sumo Bros with just one little sumo bro left and see if that crashes. I'll post an update on Twitter/ pin a comment on this video if it works :)

Hey you can land a exelent with a pow
It's based on the timing when you press the A button. I'm not sure exactly when it is (is it when you jump or when you hit it or before you jump?) Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't, I just try to press A and hope to land the action command haha

@@ZXMany Yeah because it was a consitent rule. I wish more of these rules would be established in this game. Why cant the game show me the actual stats of the bosses and enemys? Or why do attacks sometimes seem to have a different strength than usual. I was really wondering if all the numbers in this game arent just made up. There is no way the fire vellumental has an actual hp stat
@@Snaps12345 Yeah, the Fire Vellumental's HP is based on how many feathers it has left. And oh boy, trying to figure out the exact HP of some bosses is so difficult haha. If only we could "Tattle" them

Yeah, it's not very useful in a lot of places. It can flip the sidesteppers upside-down, and attack a lot of enemies at once, but that's about all it does
