This is my Dad and he’s the bravest man I know. His journey and his courage to fight his PTSD is such an inspiration to anyone struggling with the same issues. I’m very proud to call him my Dad and I will always look to him when I wonder how to conduct myself as a gentleman.

And there he is my big brother Robbie who I'm extremely proud of, and fully support him and his family during their ongoing journey in setting up a home in France. Loved the video bro, and whilst I have been privy to your personal journey dealing with PTSD, this video made me feel like you were telling it me for the very first time. Quite emotional in parts I must admit, and wanted to reach through the screen to reassure you that 'I got you, don't worry'. Your tougher than most (more than you think) and I will always look up to you no matter what x

Rob my daughter suffers from complex PTSD and I had no idea until this video just how much she must be suffering thank you so much you have helped me to help and understand her anxieties and mood swings . i will be more attentive to everything now that to the family was her just being really horrible to all of us. I know she started treatment but her councillors kept being changed or moved to another place and she found this so disheartening she stopped attending. I again thank you I can help my daughter because of you.

Hi Rob. Jane and I have just sat and watched this video. The usual platitudes and " great videos ". doesn't really cut it.
You've been of service to the country and to your community for over thirty years. You've continued to give service by creating this video. Having read all the comments so far it's already practically helped some people. These videos are on here forever and I think that in the future it's going to continue to help people to cope and most importantly start to understand the complex way that trauma of all sorts takes a toll.
It takes big shiny balls to open up like this and I commend you for your courage.

Rob, it is a hard topic to talk about but very much an important one. I commend you for your bravery in talking about it on youtube! I'm the wife of a medically retired Fire Captain in the States who also suffers from C-PTSD. He retired after 28 years in EMS and has always said that the kids were the worst. It takes a special kind of person to do the job that both he and you have done, thank you for that and for being willing to speak on what I know is a hard subject to be open with random strangers on the internet about.

He married me and moved back to the USA, then we moved back in 2005 to a small country town called Balley Castle, and he had such panic attacks we were only there for 9 months and had to come back home and he does fantastic in the US and everyone at work loves him. It's the Irish accent and he loves it lol much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖

Rob,I’m one of the “lurkers” that follow you as well as many other channels…in other words, I watch, will try to like (but fail too much!), and rarely comment…
But, thank you for posting this video about PTSD. I’m a retired ICU RN. My daughter was a nurse on a cardiac thoracic unit. She was formerly married to a Ranger in the US Army who was diagnosed with PTSD, but never sought treatment. We all have some form of PTSD because of our careers, but very few of us will seek treatment/answers for our “feelings”. Thank you for being so open about your experiences with PTSD. I’ll be here still “lurking”, but I will be here for your channel. My best to you and your family. I hope you all will find peace and happiness in your new home.

I was in an abusive marriage 20 years ago and I still have PTSD episodes based on certain triggers. I take daily anxiety RX. I’ve recreated my life only socializing with family to restrict my vulnerability. Unless you’ve experienced PTSD people don’t really understand it. I feel your pain and praise your openness.

I have just one word for it. RESPECT.
It takes courage to talk so openly about the problems you have/had.
The professions you had are "manly" jobs in which it is not "allowed" to show your emotions. But if it weren't that manly, you might have been doing your job.
About 14 years ago I had a NLP-session to cope with some "hidden" problems. Couldn't/wouldn't talk about it, but after those sessions it came easier to talk about and I could give it a place.
I wish you al the best and will follow you on your channel on your queeste in France.

Wow Rob. Very powerful, from another Rob, we have so many parallels. Some of my experiences are different from yours. Thank you for sharing, it helped me understand better but also stirred up emotions and feelings as I was watching. It never goes away, and I suffered silently covering it all up for decades. Putting that facade up. I eventually contacted my Gp who put me in touch with the NHS Veterans team. I also had therapists being changed which did not help. But those sessions really helped me cope much better. Thank you for sharing your story.
If any other Veterans or those still serving are currently struggling with PTSD, don’t suffer. There are lots of people and groups who can help. Speak with your Gp and get referred to the veterans NHS.
I found that getting in touch with other Veterans has helped. Breakfast clubs, British Legion, drop in centres for a coffee and a chat. Also talking with my wife. All for Veterans.
Good luck all, thank you for your service 🫡 Rob, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I came across your TH-cam by chance. My husband and I are looking to retire to France and a quieter life.

Looking at retiring in a few years and France definitely looks like the place to go for a calmer, quieter life. I am also early fifties and feel I have done my time. Please be proud of all you have achieved and all those people you have helped……we deserve a quieter life now! X

thumbs up from me. im in my 50's living in central france. with a french man, been here 13 years. same here, mental health struggles..I did criminology degree then social work with a view to dealing with child welfare but a year into a 2 year social work ma, external issues highlighted masking and my counselling at uni questioned my career path. as it happened 6 years later met my other half online. best move for me and I watched this because of the overarching issue of dealing with a mental health issue in France. Its pros and cons. Yes I love the fact that I could start again, away from reminders. It did have its difficult moments but Im happy now. Thank you so much for speaking from your heart. Bon chance..

This was difficult and I must admit that I couldn't watch it all. While I have never experienced anything like this and do not have PTSD I was once engaged to an ex-DCI from the Met who I now realise must have suffered from PTSD for similar experiences to yours as a policeman. He is no longer with us and I must admit to now being sad that I did not recognise what was causing his drinking and unsociable behaviour - which caused our break-up.

Also the depression/anxiety that come with it. When it was explained to me the why ...it was like a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. I'm watching this with my husband as he would like to know more about how it effects me. I'm fighting back the tears listening. I did the EMDR. But I have many regrets as my children growing up had to deal with my outbursts, but as they are now adults and understand why, but it still leaves me with huge guilt. But thankyou for sharing your story, helps immensely.

Hey thanks for your comment and your openness and honesty. I know exactly what you mean about the guilt in the outbursts. I just sat down with the older kids and apologised to each of them and explained the reasons why. It also helped that they could see i was received professional help.
Maybe get your kids to watch this video?
      Thanks for watching 🇫🇷👍

My kids were the ones urging me to get help as one is a Nurse...she saw the signs. I have apologised to them for my behaviour. Just to add to my mental health I found out I have ADHD, so lots more coffee ☕️ has helped ease that.👌🏻

@Escapetofrance-Charente All my kids have varying degrees of ADHD and also my three of my grandchildren, only two need the medication, I manage mine with Coffee, it's calms the noise in my head so I can function... sort of. I gave coffee up a few years ago having drunk it since a child, but back on it again and have one just before bedtime otherwise no sleep as brain is in turbo mode😜😁

Had a hard time finding you tho because you have same name as a very popular vlog and his is only one that comes up when searching under your name. Maybe add something to your name for searchers? Rob. It's a difficult watch. I have undiagnosed ptsd caused by how I was treated by employers (Police). My career path is similar to yours - Traffic and firearms, Sgt 2005, insp 2009. Rtc at work. I did not get the care and reasonable adjustments and became a whistle-blower. I had a nervous breakdown and was treated for paranoia. Their gang was bigger than mine. I was already deemed fit for post, so I kept my pension, but I didn't stand a chance. I was sacked at 28 years, exemplary service. My now ex husband (due to the stress), was serving too and also has diagnosed ptsd and was pensioned off too. We were both Insp and were used to make an example. I now listen to an audio book in the wee small hours when my brain ticks..... I have changed my name as I had my details leaked to the press and was trolled. That's why I'm going to France too

Oh yea I forgot to say I think my ex husband had PTSD he was physically/ verbally abused by his father and older brothers and bullied at highschool. Maybe other things happened to him too. We were married for 31years. At about 25 years he had a complete mental breakdown out of the blue it was. Diagnosed with Bipolar. Over 15 years of hell for myself and my children as he wouldn’t take his medication. He tried taking his own life, assaulted me and was in and out of the Psychiatric hospital, a couple of police arrests, in the end one night someone assaulted him he ended up months in hospital with a brain injury. Fast forward now I have a nice man he has a lovely lady we all get on great and we have Christmas and all family events together. Life is definitely not a straight road, but a long winding one. Hence the song by the Beatles.

I'm new (all thanks to Mark on another channel).
I found this video content extremely interesting.
I've experienced EMDR treatment, but it was different to how you describe.
Thought it "cured" me but realise it didn't, even though it helped.
If you have any further knowledge on how the brain copes with stuff, please share as you explain things so well.
    Thanks. L

I can imagine this video was emotionally traumatic for you in declaring your PTSD. You were courageous , open, honest and informative. That takes such strength of character you’re an inspiration so well done you love 🤗You have a life you and your family seem to be enjoying and from what you say it is totally the opposite to your life in the uk so keep doing what makes you happy.
