      Kit is built now, for electronics, what’s best to learn with? I raised the mount over the servo by 2 mm to fit my spectrum servo, just used a couple of washers and longer screws 👍

      @@SeaDogJak Great! I will be doing this mod for the servo also soon.
      As for electronics, I really like the setup in mine. This is the same setup I had been running in my MST RMX prior.
      If the total $$ is too much, cheapen out on the ESC and motor at first. Do not cheapen out on the gyro!!!! The Futaba GYD450 or GYD 550 are both amazing, and worth every penny!

  • @ripmax333
    @ripmax333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If someone knows that he or she is really into this hobby but have a limited budget I think this chassis the way it performs and for that price is definitely the way to go.
    You can focus in buying reasonable good quality electronic components like , gyro , servo and ESC and when ready upgrade to a higher spec chassis which normally you find them at $500. But if you start with this, you can have fun with good quality electronics so after the upgrade you can just swap them on the next chassis.

    • @DJ.1001
      @DJ.1001 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my plan. I built a D5mr GA. With full futaba suite, ct500/gyd550/r33 receiver. And a hobbywing XR10 pro with a D10 motor. Once I got it out on the track with some good shocks from yeah racing, reved front knuckles and a bit of setup I abandoned the idea of a new chassis. This things hangs right with the RDX, YD-2 sxiii, and hannya cars.

    Hi i’m back. So there’s something wrong. I finally finished. and uh at first my esc was beeping and blinking. now the servo just twitches and moves even when i’m not moving it. and the fan on my esc isn’t working too. could you help me

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First - double check all of your wiring. Make sure everything is plugged in the right spots, and plugged in the correct orientation.
      Then, look at the ESC manual for how to calibrate it. It will also have a troubleshooting section that describes what the ESC lights and beeps mean. That will help point you in the correct direction.
      When in doubt, unplug unnecessary things (like the servo and gyro) to troubleshoot one thing at a time.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions!
      For a beginner who is already used to dealing with RC electronics and is comfortable building a kit - yes.
      If it is someone who is nervous about specing out all of the components, but I would still highly suggest the RTR MST RMX2.0S.
      For the cheap build version - I think I have it figured out to less than $300! That is a CRAZY good deal for RWD RC Drift.
      The RTR MST that I mentioned above is usually in the $350-370 range and is a steal at that price point.

    • @RCsBigAir
      @RCsBigAir 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roadside RC I love the idea of the RTR version. Can they drift on regular pavement? Or do they need more of smoother less friction surface.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can drift on regular asphalt, it just wears the tires faster.
      If you don't have a "scale" place to drive a RWD drift car, the AWD cars can be more fun.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how confident you are sourcing and assembling the components.
      The MST is great in the RTR form, as it does a lot of the thinking for you, and gets you drifting quickly!
      However, I do say the box-stock setup on the D5S is actually really good - which means you don't need to spend the hours tuning.

      I am running a 200mm body - I don't think you could get away with a 190.

      I typically recommend the MST RMX2.0S RTR for beginners.
      It is a complete ready to run vehicle (you provide the battery), straight out of the box.
      It drifts nicely out of the box, and has nice upgrades available.

      The max servo that will fit right now is 28mm tall. The ReveD was 30mm.
      I plan to modify it to accept the 30mm.

      Thanks for the questions!
      I have driven a D4, but never owned one. The D4 was not a very good chassis. The driving dynamics were poor, and from my understanding, difficult to tune. I would not suggest getting one, or a clone of one, for that reason alone.
      When I first got my D5, it was right at $100 on eBay. It does seem the prices have increased. In fact, they are cheaper straight from 3Racing!
      Once you get close to $200 for a D5, it is hard to suggest it over the base Yokomo YD2 for $220.
      Still, I continue to drive this as my main drift car, as it is significantly faster than my MST RMX2.0S.

      @@RoadsideRC Ive talked to several people on a Facebook Drift group and so far alot of people are recommending the D5, For the price (150) the D4 over, but the "Clone" over the "legit" one because of the rigidity is suppose to be better. Now that I actually found a D5 for for under 100 (80) I might go that route, But still looking at options, Thank You for the reply.

      @@RoadsideRC Troy, I followed your RMX 2 postings as well. Just wondering if you figured out exactly why it was slower than your D5 ? Even with various high/low motor configurations ? Now that MST released the RMX 2 Classic (no turn buckles and no ball diff), at the same price point, would you reconsider the RMX 2 or still go with the D5 ? I also need to consider the quality of the parts and the support of parts if something did break. Thanks.

      Do you have a local hobby shop that carries parts?
      I would say RMX parts are easier to get...but you don't need a bunch for drift cars once they are built.
      My theory, the D5 is faster because of the rear motor and overall lighter chassis.

      Temporarily, I will be driving this D5S...as I only have one set of electronics.
      Out of the box, I am both very impressed...and not impressed with this car.
      It is FAST, and drifts well straight out of the box. This is great.
      I am concerned about long-term durability. Will it start to wear the parts fast? Start to develop slop at some of the joints? Things like that.
